My name is Justin, I'm 30 years old and I'm perhaps one of the biggest fans of Bonnaroo that exist. I attended the first 7 Bonnaroo's and have had the chance to meet so many good people (from this board) as well as see so many mind blowing musical acts.....James Brown, Tom Petty, RadioHead, Beck, My Morning Jacket, M.Ward, Bright Eyes, THE FUCKIN ROOTS, Dave, Trey, The WOrd....too many to list...and as I list some, I feel sad for the Million other acts that changed my life, John Butler, Ray, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Keller WIlliams with String Cheese, Ween, Widespread... you get the point. I've made a lot of new friends at ROO, but I think most important to me is the amount of people I have introduced to the Roo. Took my Best friend or he took me in 2002. We waited 17hrs in line on that highway to get in the first year. The weather Twenty degrees hotter then this year. The next year, we took our girlfriends....The next year I took my sister.....and perhaps this is the year BONNAROO became a religion...
not in the sense I worship 100 plus bands on a field...but that I worship the fact hundred of thousand passionate people gather, fan and artist alike to just forget the worlds problems and speak the universal language THAT is music. With so many options, people come and go, and no negativity is usually scene. You didn't see Fat or Ugly at Roo, You saw Humans having Fun....It is Amazing how different that Farm is compared to say, your local walmart parking lot. Positive vibes are spread and it is hard to deny that!. And if everybody who witnessed Bonnaroo, took home that same individual unique passion those artist have, and instilled it into their own job....waitress, lawyer, doctor, etc....The world would be filled with cult classic, not best selling ...energy that can only inspire EVERYTHING for the good. AMEN!
That year (2004), one month after the Dave and Trey (green logo) filled Roo, my sister passed away suddenly and unexpected. I'm so happy I got to spend those five days on the road and on the farm with my sister. As you can imagine we bonded in a way never possible, and never before. Death can't even seperate us, for she lives on through me everyday!
I continue to go to Roo, the following three years. Addicted to picture taken, music listening and just the overall expierence that is HOLY SHIT- ROO. I continued to bring friends, their friends, and even their parents! It was the best of times, ohh yeah it was the best of times.
I stopped going the year Metallica went to Roo -- 2008??? Not because the Music was horrible, or roo changed their outlook on the scene...It was actually I HAD GROWN UP A LITTLE .in fact I have daughter, she's seven now...and as you know..those things aren't cheap. And I have had the pleasure of going VIP a few times to that farm - seeing all those acts...that I just ultimately decided...I needed to see the rest of the world and/or save money for her. I want to Visit theatres, intimate shows....and of course all the other cities I have yet to see.
I probably will never go back to that Farm. I spend 1000 dollars everytime and it's hard to justify that money to party for four days when the heat can kick your ass, or your neighbors may suck, or your walk is horrible...OR YOU MIGHT HAVE A LIFE CHANGING expierence!!
...and to say I did that - done that - tears me apart....because i know you could go every year and still expierence something different!
But since the 2012 show ended, and I pratically got my music fix via webcast...I am content...
BUT I AM MOST CONTENT BECAUSE OF YOU. THANKS for sharing your stories, good and bad...reviews, photos and downloads ( I have over 350 plus sets from roo on cd or hardrive, with lots of whole video shows available as well...hit me up, and I'll send you a cd via mail, or do my best to send email)
I LIVE and enjoy Bonnaroo through all of you! I love your spirit and thank the people who run this website. I feel like I went this year. Your stories and complaints bring me back to my tent with late night music in the background. I can almost feel my sore feet and chaffing legs giving in as I stay and listen to MArs Volta for ten more minutes.
THANKS AGAIN everyone. Bonnaroo is so special to me and I'm so happy to be around others who feel the same! Much Love and Party ON!
