I've seen them over 5 times now, always a fun show. Although at Mountain Jam last year Alex walked around on people's lawn chairs and did this weird meditation thing for like, 10 minutes. I was corned up so I thought it was great, but a lot of people around me were looking around thoroughly confused.

I've seen them four times and are my favorite live band. I don't even care for them much on record but Alex is an incredible performer and the music is transformed live with all those people up on stage. They were one of my big hopes for this year and considering how popular they've become, along with the new record, it'd seem they're very likely for this year. I will be there if it happens.

For those who are interested in them but wary about their records I highly encourage you to see The Zeros live. They perform without a setlist so each show is a pretty spontaneous, in the moment thing. They utilize a lot of crowd interaction (e.g. coming into the crowd to sing, inviting people on stage, passing the mic around during "Home" for people to tell stories, etc.) The performance and tempo of their songs vary from the records, almost wholly for the better. Alex is a great, charismatic frontman and the band acts like they love being up there playing for you. They're the first band I experienced where I truly understood what it meant when someone said you just have to see them live.
Their shows induce within me a swell of joy and positive feelings I don't really get from other bands I love. Yes, they do put off a bit of a goofy, cult vibe. That part doesn't bother me and I don't really care if it's authentic or not. I just know how much I enjoy their shows. The first time I saw them was at Roo and I ended up catching them four times that summer. I'm so happy I get to see them again in the place where it all began for me. Here's a couple vids that demonstrate their live prowess:
Also, I've seen them once since Here came out. It's much better in concert, natch. But after seeing them do those songs I've grown to actually like the record. It's no longer a disappointment for me and I like putting it on at night when I'm in bed.
That's a great way to put it! Authentic or not, it's hard not to be drawn in by their live shows. Schedule permitting, I'll be at this set! The inevitable "Home" singalong will be another great Bonnaroo moment.

They currently have 5200 adds on Bonnaroo.com, by far the most of any act that far down on the lineup. To put that into billing perspective, Tom Petty currently has 5700 adds. This is going to have to be a stage act.
Really pumped for this! I saw Big Easy Express (bigeasyexpress.com) awhile back and Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros in it along with Old Crow Medicine Show and Mumford.

This has been my biggest find since the lineup came out. Both their albums have been on a constant loop in my car for about a week now. For some reason, I was picturing the lead singer to look more like Johnny Cash and less like a Waylon Jennings/ZZ Top love child. Thanks for posting those videos

I couldn't find a thread talking about the Edward Sharpe shows, so I wanted to share some of the amazing things from them!
They put on an excellent show. There were storms coming through the area (though it hardly rained) and VIP viewing was being evacuated and all sorts of craziness was happening, but it didn't affect what was happening on stage. There was a lot of crowd interaction, walking in bare feet along the tops of the Pit barriers, etc.
During "Home," Jade and Alex came into the audience to get people's stories. One guy said he had been in the hospital a year ago waiting on a bone marrow transplant. Edward Sharpe came to visit him in the hospital. Shortly after, he received an anonymous donation and he was here at Bonnaroo because of it. Alex grabbed the kid, pulled him on stage and gave him a tambourine. I was crying, it was so touching.
They ran over by about five minutes, but they had something else to say. Alex kept banging on the mic, trying to get the sound guy to turn it on, but he wouldn't. One of the band members pulled out a fancy "Mr. Microphone" and Alex announced they weren't done and to come over to the Sonic Stage.
The band paraded through Centeroo and showed up about 5-10 minutes after their Which Stage set ended. They were sound-checking as they were playing songs. The piano came on first, so he played a little piano solo. Then it was a piano solo and singers doing the hokey-pokey. They played "Lean on Me" and other sing-alongs until they had all the instruments hooked up. They played a few songs from their newest album and pulled people from the audience to play the tambourine and bongo and stuff.
For their final song, "All Wash Out," they pulled a guy out of the audience to play the harmonica. He was so shy that he wouldn't get on stage, so Alex put a mic on the ground so the kid could play without being seen. He was amazing! He played along to the whole song and even did a solo. Afterward we went to congratulate him and he was talking to an older gentleman. The gentleman said he was a record producer and wanted to talk to the kid. Gave him his card. It was a WONDERFUL end to Bonnaroo. Best show I've ever seen. Edward Sharpe REALLY knows how to work a crowd.
Unfortunately I couldn't be there so next best thing (a distant 2nd) was to watch the streams and even though it wasn't broadcast at its scheduled time the Edward Sharpe show was streamed, in what looked like its entirety, late last night. That looked like one of the best performances I saw all weekend and looked like everyone was having a great time. I'm guessing the "Safety" guys were in full panic mode but Alex and Jade looked to be getting everyone into the act. That's got to be the deepest I've seen anyone get nto the crowd, a few times the cameraman seemed to be having trouble finding him. And...the music was great. Was the VIP viewing area the same as last year? I couldn't tell from the angle from the stage.

They weren't showing the VIP viewing area because it was mostly empty. A storm was supposed to hit the area and they evacuated as many people as they could willingly get to leave, and then they wouldn't let us back in until about 20 minutes until the show's end. Had some older VIP people attacking the staffer's guarding the gate.
I'll say I was very impressed by how the staff handled the old redneck.
If the old redneck is on here, You were a douche, that guy had a job to do, and a liability issue as well. If you had been injured the cost to Bonnaroo would have been a lot more than you not buying a VIP ticket next year. so try a nice hot cup of STFU

That's too bad, in 4 years I only saw one time where security had to get involved and that was pretty much for the guy's own protection. Thinking back there were some really dark clouds in the feed but it's tough to tell whether that's the camera or real, guess it was real.
