This is not a music festival, though it is a gathering of interesting looking peoples. I noticed this year it is occurring quite close to me, so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this gathering.

I went to a regional gathering in Florida for 2 nights once. I had alot of fun camping with my group of friends, and we met alot of cool people. But the core group is kinda cultish and a little creepy to me.
I had alot of fun though. It was an interesting experience for sure
Stay away from A-Camp unless you want to get into some wild ass shiznit with very crazy and sketchy people.
A-Camp is "alcohol camp". Alcohol is frowned upon at Rainbow so drinkers are segregated. A-Campers are the super dirty trainjumper types you've probably seen downtown every now and then. They get super schwilly and fight a lot. There scene is reminiscent of Mad Max.
Regular Rainbow camping has a ton of good people, but you still get a lot of hardcore burnouts and genuine schizo types. You'll get the mystic types as well.
I was thinking about going to this one since it's close to me too, but honestly I'd rather devote the limited time/money I have ito music festivals that have a real payoff.
If you want to get your face stolen go to Rainbow.
A couple friends and I were backpacking in Florida a couple years ago. Apparently it was around the time of a rainbow gathering because we were asked several times by random hobo type people if we were headed there. That was the first we'd heard about it, and it certainly didn't seem like the crowd we would want to hang around... One of the strangers even walked up on me 100ft out from the trail as I was squatting doing my business.
Kiko are you from the tri-cities area? I'm from Kingsport
KnoxVegas. Spent some time in JC though, so I know the area. School that is, not jail...
Hi neighbor. Some friends of mine are going to this, they are taking their kids and camping so not sure what kinda vibe it will have. THey are def hippies though.
Non-A-camp is NOT sober camp. It's just a no-drinking camp. A lot of rainbow gatherers do not know the meaning of "too much too fast."
A-Campers will drink themselves f'n blotto with no moderation and get into fights and stupid chicanery. These are the people who get arrested for public detox when they go to towns. Many of them are amazing people but many are just Drainbows that leech from "Babylon" when they can't get free shitt at Gatherings.
The regular camp will be more "what you'd expect", real hippies, mystics, "WE LOVE YOU" types etc......they will be raging. It's a psychedelic gathering.
Forest rangers are known to be major dbags at these events. There will be many LEOS looking to bust people for stupid things there and on the way there and leaving.
My main point in posting was to warn about A-Camp. If you want to get rowdy and tore up by all means go camp there, but they are extreme people and A-Camp is a home to runaways, degenerates and people with serious mental health issues. Obviously that is only a minority, but when you are out in bumfuck egypt with a headfull things can escalate quick if you have certified wingnuts going buttwild.
I've always thought it would be an interesting experience. This would be a good year to go due to how close it is to me, not going to be able to afford travel for sure though.
They say Rainbow gatherings are a "poor man's" Burning Man. I went to one in Ocala, when I was in High School(20yrs ago). I know the RG have changed, but from that experience, I have no desire to attend a Gathering. Granted I am not the same person today, as I was back then, and nothing bad happened, it was just a weird vibe. Someone said "cultish", yeah that is a good way to say it.
