Leaving Netflix in April. Figured id rewatch. Josh Hartnett, Danny Huston, Ben Foster, Manu Bennett. Such a solid cast with a unique take on a vampire movie. I remember liking it. We'll see how it holds up.
I just remember this scene. Was it worth the rewatch?

To all criminals and drunken assholes living in Edo period Japan. Stop picking fights with the legendary blind swordsman that has a reputation for going town to town killing entire gangs in one night. How do you not get this by now?

I think so. That scene wasn't a big impact for me. What I really love about this movie is it has some actors I feel are underappreciated for how good they are (Foster, Hartnett, Huston), how brutal it is (sometimes I feel like current horror movies don't want to get violent/bloody), and the unique take on a Vampire story where they control a whole month because there's no sun. I also really like the way the end plays out with Harnett's character and all that.
There's some silly stuff with the vampires talking in their vampire language (and Huston and his partner as vampire lovers) that I would have preferred was either more explained or not included but overall I enjoy the way the whole movie plays out. It is one of the few horror-type of movies where I totally side with a lot of the main characters and most of their motivations for the things they do. There were many times where Hartnett and others did what I would consider the "smart" thing to do. Nothing is more annoying than stupid protagonists who are only stupid to serve the plot.
Good new 6-part documentary on the Rahjneeshpuram Commune in Oregon
Getting in on this new Netflix docu hotness. Great production about a modern American cultural clash that a lot of people (myself included) probably have never heard of.

"For I've shown that the rich of this world have no qualms about causing misery but can't bear the sight of it. They have hard hearts but weak nerves. Well, we won't spare their nerves today! By the thousands we'll tear at their nerves, for our rags do not conceal our wounds!"
