It's back with the ridiculous name and all. 2011 was a surprisingly well-ran festival.
After a year hiatus which saw Kanrocksas Music Festival’s home, the Kansas Speedway®, undergo a significant facelift, including major infield renovations and the opening of Hollywood Casino, festival organizers announced today that the festival will return on June 28 – 29, 2013. To amplify the momentum created by the first year of the festival, organizers will continue to grow and expand the brand with big name acts, added amenities and trending technological features. In August 2011, Kanrocksas Music Festival introduced Midwest music lovers to a top-tier music festival experience. Festival goers from across the nation and around the globe attended Kanrocksas Music Festival spurred by headliners Eminem and Muse, along with national and local musicians representing virtually every genre. As the first major music event to take place at Kansas Speedway®, festival organizers succeeded in creating a one-of-a-kind experience and fans can expect nothing less in 2013. Kanrocksas Music Festival is committed to bringing world-class talent and experiences to the Midwest while maintaining a value driven price point. By purchasing during the early bird period, fans ensure they will receive the highest value for festival tickets. To maximize value, fans will be able to secure free festival camping during the early bird period as well. Secure your spot at the 2013 Kanrocksas Music Festival with the early bird ticket package starting at 10:00 a.m. (CST) on Friday, September 21 only at Kanrocksas.com. The early bird tickets and FREE camping are available for a limited time and once the early bird tickets are sold out, advanced tickets will become available for purchase. An early bird 2-day ticket and camping reservation will save fans $115.00 when compared to full-price tickets.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

Loved this fest and prob would have bought tix if i wasnt making three fest happen between counterpoint, moog, and virgin ff. But i will consider this one next summer when i go to planning.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Kanrocksas is announcing a piece of the line-up next week. We know it wont be the Rolling Stones, Prince, or Mumford and Sons which is mentioned in the attached article.

Line-up announcement is coming on the 28th. Apparently, the festival is having a hard time booking bands due to the competition of other festivals and are still working on a lot of bookings. I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty weak line-up.

It isn't a bad start. I would wait and judge after the line-up is out. With that being said my expectations are low.
Agreed on the headliners comment, but there's some good stuff on there, like Yeasayer, Grimes, Descendents, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc. Considering the makeup of the lineup, I don't know if the name "Kansasrocks" really applies in 2013.
This festival is weird. I live in Kansas City and was ecstatic in 2011 when this was founded. They had a great line up in 2011 with Eminem/Muse headlining and Black Keys, Flaming Lips, A Perfect Circle, Ween, STS9 and Bassnectar as some of the bigger supporting acts. It was logistically great too, very relaxed security, no lines. But apparently they didn't meet ticket sales expectations and Eminem cost way too much. So they skip 2012 and come back this year promising an expanded version of '11. Then the people running it made weird comments about "not wanting to break the bank for bands", they promised to release a partial lineup but announced 3 acts, and the people running their facebook would get in fights in trolls in the comment section.
Now they release the lineup and it's good, but missing headliners. They're also charging $200 while Beale Street and Houston Free Press (similar festivals IMO) aren't even over $100 and have headliners. I'll still be going because I want to support my hometown, and I got early bird tickets for $120, but I think a lot of people are going to be turned off.

I am sooooo disappointed. Lots of good lower tier acts but a lot of them have been through KC lately and a lot of them I saw at Roo last year or will this year. The YYYs are the only band I really, really want see and IMO they should be the headliner out of that group.
I hope ticket sales are horrible and they have no choice but to add some bigger acts. Apparently, they lost a big investor and found that the weekend they moved it to made it really hard to book acts because of all the competition. Move it back to Lolla weekend and use those acts, it was much better that way.

You got part of your wish....ticket sales were horrible...and it got canned.
