Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Hey Cosmos...thanks for sharing with the group, because--among other reasons--I imagine your frank discussion of what happened will serve at least one other person who comes to Inforoo looking for information on how to make their first time special, and maybe a cautionary story like this one will save them from going down a road similar to the one you did.
To the mods: how about, like, a stickied thread linking to "Tales from the Dark Side" AKA "Real-World Safety Tips" AKA "How to Ruin Your Roo" AKA "Steps to Preserving Your Sanity" where stories like this one are gathered? I realize such a thread might be taken as negative publicity for the festival, but that might be outweighed by the good it does.

Yeah, sort of like that. The theft stories come up every year (bummer) but is there already something out there that centralizes the health/sanity crises? If so, maybe just a pointer to it in the first-timer FAQ would be enough.
It's a sense of closure. However I still believe there's a lot of gang activity going on and first time rooers should be informed not to go to certain areas super late at night. And as elementary as it sounds the buddy system needs to be re-implemented.
Dude, it's not elementary to institute a buddy system, it's just smart. My friends happen to think I'm this invincible party mutant that can take care of myself 24/7, but even I need the occasional assist at Roo. Everything about the festival can be disorienting if you don't have your wits about you. And if you're alone (like I was for much of this past Roo bouncing between my friends and shows I wanted to see, but they didn't) it's not hard to fill in with a crowd for the walk back. Hell, if you simply go up to people you recognize from your camp area and say "hey, is it cool if I walk back to camp with you? Some people sketched me out and would feel safer in a group," they might giggle for a minute, but they'll say yes. People at Roo, almost always, are kind and helpful. If you find the occasional jerk-off, don't let it discourage you because there is a 99.9% chance the next person won't be.
I was in Camp Shaggy which is about as far as where you were camped and I just stuck to the main paths and walked with people. I stay out really late at Roo (sunrise, usually), so it's not like I was walking around when the festival is most crowded/awake. If you do go back, stick to the main paths and latch on to a group.
I wouldn't go around handing out flyers about the Bonnaroo gang activity, just be on the lookout for anything that doesn't seem on the up and up. If you see someone rummaging through campsites, don't do anything yourself (outside of maybe yelling at them), just tell security. If you see someone having a bad time (you know what I mean), go and grab a medical person. My point is, those volunteers/employees are there for your benefit and it sucks that a few a-holes found it funny to mess with someone having a bad time, but that really is such a small % of the people there that I'm surprised they were all in the same place to be honest. I've never had an issue with the Roo employees outside of a couple of security guards on a power trip searching through my bag at the check-in like they found a bomb in my bag.
If you do go back I can all but guarantee your next trip will be a vast improvement over this past June. And you could meet some cool inforoo people who would mother the sh*t out of you, trust me. You wouldn't worry about black bandana-wearing shirtless brosefs at all.
I typed "he" first then I believed that to be a purse on his/her right shoulder, so I changed it. Upon furthur investigation, I still believe that to be a woman.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I'll only go back if they have ratm or tool. A trip from az to manchester would have to be worth it.

Well, not to ruin this collective moment we're all having right now, but at your average RATM show, the guys in black bandanas ARE out to get you.

I think with the curfew and more controlled atmosphere it might be a good fest to ease you back into things. Not many coachella wooks. Less dreds, more ironic mustaches.

This is the worst sales pitch for a music festival I've ever heard.
I've gotten locked up in paranoid delusions from funny substances in the past. I don't really want to share the exact stories, but I can say that reality was definitely somewhere between what you described/remember and absolutely nothing like you imagined.
What happened to me when I got spooked is that I began looking around looking out for what I was afraid of. Now, the first thing I saw may have been real, or it may have been an exaggeration of something completely harmless that I freaked out about because of the substances. Then, everything after that was tainted.
The old adage "Perception is reality" is malleable when under the influence. This is why drunks fight and have sex with people below their standards if they were sober.
All I am saying is that I have been there, but not at Roo. I can't imagine having a bad trip at Roo. the one I experienced was around a lot of people that I knew well and liked a lot - and it was still awful.
Come back to Roo. Experience it for what it is meant to be. I came the first time in '11 and didn't have a great time because the 2 girls I went with turned out to be 2 of the most obnoxious people on the planet, and all the party favors I got were fake, except for one little bit of fungus - and I fell out in the sun when I was on it....nobody around me came to my assistance, I just woke up later under the same tree I collapsed under. Alone.
When I look back, I had some awesome moments there. So I came back. With better company.
And this year was AMAZING, even though I didn't love the lineup as much as I did for 2011.
I don't think anyone here wants ANYONE to be left with a crappy vision/memory/opinion of one of the most free, loving, fun places on earth.
Share a ride, find a way or make a way. Its worth it.

I'm considering it. I just need to find people to go with.
Hopefully not the person you went to Roo with.
Yeah haha he's interested in going. He's probably the only friend I have that can afford the trip. I'm gonna make sure he doesn't act like a little biotch this time if he goes.
