According to the webpage ticket prices are not going up until June 30th. The past two years the 3rd headliner has played Sunday night, so it seems The Flaming Lips will. If they're not in the Lolla lineup I will more than likely be getting a Sunday pass. If they're on the Lolla lineup then I will wait until the schedule comes out and see if I have any conflicts.

Wow, that's just bad all the way through. Maybe if The Flaming Lips and Foxy Shazam are on the same day I'll think about it. (for those of you who don't know them Foxy Shazam are incredible and one of the more fun live acts out there)

I may, or may not, have seen the lead singer of Foxy Shazam eat a lit cigarette on stage like 7 years ago when they used to open for sh*tty hardcore bands.

You more than likely did. I saw them two years ago at a secret show in Youngstown and got to talk to all the members of the band afterwards for a really long time and they were the nicest funniest musicians I had met. I love the crazy shit they do on stage.

Ahaha! I love Foxy. First time I saw them, I had no idea what they were about. What a pleasant surprise! The keyboardist is equally insane.

Yes. Yes you did. I've seen it on multiple occasions now

If I go to Lolla over Forecastle then I will be a getting Sunday pass for sure. Even though the lineup is pretty laughable for the most part, ZZ Ward --> Young the Giant --> Flaming Lips would be great for me. Plus I can go to the Reds game that day.

Worth noting that the Saturday game that weekend has a Billy Hamilton bobblehead giveaway. That's the game I'll be hitting that weekend.
Also, this lineup is pretty rough, and the only bands I'd like to see are also playing Bonnaroo, so I'll be staying FAR away from Sawyer Point that weekend.
I'm not a big country fan, but that Buckle Up lineup is pretty great. Both of these festivals are put on by the same guy, and Cincinnati is a shockingly huge country market. Case in point, on the Saturday night of Buckle Up (July 19), Jason Aldean is playing Great American Ballpark, literally a stones throw from the BU venue. He sold out 35,000+ seats in a day, and Buckle Up will likely sell out as well. So yeah, if you don't like country, stay away from downtown that weekend. I'll be at Forecastle.

Yeah I'm hitting up Forecastle instead because I liked their lineup a lot more than Lolla. If I would choose Lolla over Forecastle then I would have went up to Cincy the weekend of Bunbury to watch the Reds series and buy a Sunday pass. Not going to be able to make the drive though to the same area two weekends in a row because my family also has a weekend vacation in Gatlinburg planned for the weekend after Forecastle.
I actually knew Cincy had a pretty big country market. A few years back me and some buddies was in town to watch the Reds and they played a Saturday day game. That night Kid Rock was playing at the Riverbend, we didn't have anything else to do so we got tickets that morning. Got to talking to a guy that had a Bonnaroo shirt on and he was telling me how country tickets don't have a hard time selling in the area.

Yeah, it's fairly frustrating, because most of the promoters focus super hard on legacy acts an country, and leave a lot of rock/indie/alt by the wayside, even though there are some great venues here.
There is a second, more indie festival in late September here called MidPoint Music Fest (MPMF). It's more of a SXSW style fest (100+ bands over 3 days in 15 different venues, all within walking distance), but has been steadily growing for the past few years.

Third year in a row going and this year blew the other two out of the water. Empire of the Sun, Flaming Lips, Holy Ghost, Robert Delong, The Orwells, Kishi Bashi, J Roddy Walston, Cage The Elephant, ZZ Ward, Andrew WK...... everyone was fantastic. The food was great, the beer was a little more expensive this year but still pretty good. This year we had a fireworks show from the Reds behind Empire of the Sun. Seriously, I know there are a lot of people from Cincinnati on this board, if you've never been to Bunbury you are missing out. I really hope they don't cancel the festival due to lack of attendance because it's easily my favorite event of the year here

had a blast this year!!! Crabcake sandwich was amazing, and those spiked lemonades were so very dangerous!!
Top 5 acts for me were: 1. Little Daylight 2. Holy Ghost! 3. Empire of the Sun 4. Young the Giant 5. Flaming Lips

Didn't try the crabcake sandwich, Eli's and the Empanadas were too good to pass up. And I'll have to check out Little Daylight, never heard of them.
Top 5 for me 1. Empire of The Sun 2. Robert Delong 3. Andrew WK (what a party!) 4. Flaming Lips 5. Cage The Elephant
Meg Myers and Holy Ghost! were two shows I loved but didn't catch their whole sets.

As a Cincinnnatian that lives about 5 miles away from the festival, I'm pumped you had a great time! I passed in favor of Forecastle (plus I had a graduation party in Cleveland this past weekend), and most of the bands I wanted to see I caught at Bonnaroo (Cage, ZZ Ward, Flaming Lips, Empire of the Sun last year). I've only been once, in the first year I bought a single day pass to see Manchester Orchestra, Gaslight Anthem, and Weezer. From what I've heard, the festival has only improved every year, which is encouraging.
They've already announced next year's dates, July 10-12, which is an insanely bold move. Here's why: Cincinnati is hosting the MLB All-Star Game next year, which will presumably run July 11-16, with most of the events pretty much right on top of the Bunbury venue. That's one way to make sure traffic won't be much fun.

Also, ELI'S FTMFW. It's SO GOOD.
Yeah, I think they signed a long term deal with the city that has the dates set for a few years. I remember hearing about that because the first two years people kept bitching that it was the same weekend as Forecastle and Bunbury said they had no choice. I wonder how many people travel to the fest, because that might be the biggest hit to the festival since booking hotels will be rough. There were games all this past weekend and I don't really think they had a huge effect.
The festival is great though. I encourage you to go next year especially if it's in your backyard. Volunteering is also ridiculously easy if you don't have the money.
