They did a better job explaining it in the past, but they basically give you a shopping list for local stores, and will buy whatever you want for the festival as part of your ticket price for the RV.
didn't Freshy win this one year from StubHub but the winners tax alone was like $8,000?
Yeah he did and yes the taxes were that much. There is a thread on here about his experience, but I don't know where it sits. I think long story short, he liked the perks but not the people.
That said, I have always toyed with doing this. I do VIP every year, and this is not really too much of a stretch. But it always comes back to I like camping and being with other people. Hence VIP. It is a decent middle ground.
I won the Fuse barn trip a couple of years ago and the taxes are just based on the value of the prize. They get treated as income and you pay the tax from there. Fresh had a pretty awful time with the tax as I remember but I just had the people that were going as my guests kick in and we were good to go.
The only other person I met that did Rockstar was a total frat boy douchebag who didn't even know who was playing.
Roll like a Rockstar is exactly why I don't want to get married until I'm 40 and my friends can afford to make this a bachelor party for the last of the group to end their life get married.
count me in I will be the Zach Galifinakis for the group!

Now you know you can't have a Roll like a Rockstar thread without me chiming in my two cents.
"Pre-stocked goodies per your request" was exactly as WLV said. They give you a shopping list and they venture out to local stores and wal-mart and the like. They will even go so far to venture to Nashville for stuff they can't find local. (He said we could have asked for Trader Joe's stuff, but we didn't because we figured they couldn't secure it.)
Also, I checked out this years flyer and new this year is a dedicated taxi cab driver. This has serious potential. I am in the process of trying to get hired as one of those this year.
And yes, it's the IRS and corporate BS that sucks. I mean I happily accepted the prize and all. But it's just a huge tax break for everyone involved. StubHub gets a huge write off and it pads their sponsorship with Bonnaroo/CID very well. What I should have done was find a way to split that 10-99 eight different ways but oh well. But that was just because I won it as a prize. I don't think you pay sales tax on this if you are buying it (it appears included based on the wording of the flyer)
And to sum up my conclusion on the entire experience: Bonnaroo is always what you make of it. Spending 3700 on a Total Access or rocking over in Pod 1: Bonnaroo is all about your attitude and how you make the most of it. The perks are nice, but not essential to have the most epic Bonnaroo of your life.
Freshy - It would have been more fun if we were sharing it with you. Are you serious about working as a driver this year or are you just gonna hang out with the rest of the gang?
I may or may not be alone in my sentiments, but I think that Bonnaroo is meant to be enjoyed away from all of the amenities. Camping out, tents, bugs, the heat, the filth, etc, etc. You will always find me in the GA campgrounds, livin it up with the rest of the non-VIPs. Nothing against any of you who have gone/will go/want to go the VIP route.

You are definitely not alone in your sentiments, but your opinion is not universal. A lot of us happen to enjoy the VIP experience, and I am sure the Roll like a Rockstar people enjoy theirs as well. Hell, I am sure the actual Rockstars who sleep in RVs enjoy the festival too.
The point being, Bonnaroo is what you make of it. There is no one definitive way to enjoy it. 80,000 people each have their own story and experience and I find each as fascinating as the next.

Serious. They hired me for Outside Lands 2011 (Travel package shuttle ops) and said they'd love to have me back for future events. I never kept in touch because shortly after my job went from having a flexible schedule to a 9-5 type deal
I am going to see if I can run into the organizers at Coachella (they do the Safari tent stuff), and verbally express interest. If that doesn't work, I still have e-mail addresses. I would really love to do it.

Was going to say something similar. I make good money and could afford Roll like a Rockstar if I wanted, but that's just not Bonnaroo to me. Being out in nature and roughing it, away from the conveniences of the modern world just makes the experience special.

So, I'm no CPA or anything but if sales tax is rolled into the price of the package does that not mean that your prize package was potentially overvalued by nearly 10%. I know sales tax here one county above Manchester is 9.75% don't know exactly what theirs is. If said package was overvalued would you not be able to contest that and amend your return to get some of your money back? I mean if the sales tax is included your paying prize tax on sales tax which is double dipping.

I got a free upgrade to VIP last year. The free showers and flushable toilets were nice. Actually, the toilets were really really really nice. The ice was like $2.00 for a giant bag. Free beer on Thursday = I don't remember Thursday. I still feel like VIP took away from my overall experience though. The time on the toilets and in the showers and charging my phone could have been used seeing more music. Just my 2 cents though.

I am 53 and have been doing bonnaroo since 2009. I did v.i.p. for the first year the starting doing total access. I feel like slightly less of a d-bag saying total access. Not only do i go, but i pay for three of my frat brothers, a newphew, my daughter and two of her friends. My son goes GA and has no interest in the bus. My wife has no interest in the festival so she stays in baltimore.
$30k is a lot of moey and i started with zero, but now colleges are paid for, house paid off, so wtf. My guests are happy they know a crazy dude that pays for the weekend.
We all need things to look forward to, and after a while, its all for shits and giggles. My group looks forwardto this each year. The other groups i met mostly kept to themselves, except for one group that could keep up with any college group.
The access is what is so valuable. I can see more groups because of the back door access to the tents and stages.
I am going to do it until i die.
I tried lolla, but it was not the same - being on the farm, whether in the grove of busses or in LEBF is the highlight of my year.
Now back to youtube to see which act i havent heard of, will make my schedule. Last year it was dawes, fitz ahd grouplove.

If the unnecessary sarcastic posts are indicative of the people who have been shouting out for the VIP camping group - I'm so in. lol. These are my kind of people.

The tax they are referring to is a government gift tax - a special form comes to you at the end of the year (a 1099, which he mentioned) and you have to report the prize amount listed as a taxable income (in very overly simplified terms). Prize/gift taxes usually calculate near 40%. Say you work a $50K/yr salaried position and you get a $4K/performance bonus paid out in March as a gift in one separate check - plan on only seeing slightly more than half of the $4K. Welcome to taxation.

This will be my 10th Roo, 3rd in Roll like a Rock star. I am pretty sure I know the group oneandtwenty is referring too:-)
Best experience imaginable. Roo was already my favorite place on Earth, the Rock Star access just makes it that much better. The farm was always a place to disconnect from the world, the amenities remove that little bit of stress and magnify the fun. No worry about lines, or spots, or energy to get from one place to the next, or food, or drink, or bathrooms...all is covered right at your fingertips. Ultimately I am there for the music, but my body sure appreciates the luxeries (offsets all the debaucery).
Its not so much the access for the tents (I am happy out in the crowd for those), the two stage access areas right in the middle, up front, with room to dance and breathe, and a cooler full of water and beer, and easy in/out to upscale a/c bathrooms are simply priceless. And since I love to dance, not having to wait in line for the silent disco is even a nice treat (I simply wouldn't be able to enjoy it if I had to wait in an hour+ line at night). Same for the comedy tent, I wouldn't even think about missing music for comedy formerly, but now can easily drop in on a top comedian without having to think about lines and such. Check out some of my other posts for more info about the Rock Star experience, different but fantasitc.
Yes, it is freaking expensive....but it is worth every penny. It is all in what YOU make of it. It may be the last year my group can afford it, but I will relish once again come June.
The other groups i met mostly kept to themselves, except for one group that could keep up with any college group.
Billion - you beat me to quoting this! I also have a pretty good idea on which group this is . . . :-) Cough, cough - I'm looking at you, me and the other 6 of us.
This is going to be my 6th roo, and the 3rd with the Total Access folks (I also hate using the Roll like a Rock Star tag - see previous douche bag comments earlier). I could talk for days about this, but Billion's mentioned posts give it justice already. It's a different experience than in GA and VIP. The 8 of us live and breathe music, and this is a pretty special way to connect with this love.
