I should expect this thread from someone who hates The Big Lebowski.
Wait? Phi hates The Big Lebowski? Wtf man? I mean W.T.F.?
As for the cinenma tent....7 years and i've never set foot in it. But it obviously has it's place so I'm fine with it. Even 'meant' to go a coupla times. But Bonnaroo happened.
Seriously, who pays $300 to come to a music festival only to waste 2hrs of your day you could be seeing a show, watching a movie that you can watch at home?
In my opinion its a waste of space and resources.
Bring on the hate, haters!
Used to post here a few Roos ago so this isn't my first post, but this thread kind of got me to cease my lurking. The cinema tent is a staple at roo. That poop you call a feria wheel should be he first thing to go. "who wants to pay $300 to go pay $5 more dollars to sit in a line for an hour To ride a ferris wheel?". The cinema tent was and has always been respite for me. Not from the heat (for those old enough to remember when it didn't even have walls or a floor, just a projector and grass) but from the madness. Generally I go and lose myself in the madness and it is wonderful and magical, but the cinema is a place where you can go when you are suffering from sensory overload and turn your brain off for a few minutes. Plus I'm willing to bet it helps those that are bad off but not so much they need to go to the medical tent. I will say that the movie selections over the past 5 years have been ridiculous, like rosemarys baby, but even with dumb choices I feel it is a great part of Roo. I can see the enjoyment the ferris wheel can give but what is up with the adult swim thing? So useless.
On Friday last year, the group I was with retreated to the Cinema Tent, figuring the AC would revitalize us after seeing a few concerts. Doug Benson was doing the Benson Interruption for Rambo. We waited on line (at the back) and, as we approached, it was becoming apparent we were going to be the first people denied access. Doug was waiting outside and we talked to him a little bit, he was SUPER nice, and apologized about not everyone getting in. Luckily, someone from inside came out and said that 10 more people could come in. We got in and seated right in the front row, which I guess was being saved for someone who didn't show. Benson was there with a few other comedians (Brian Posehn is the only name I can remember), but they were all hilarious talking over Rambo. My main complaint about the cinema tent was that it was TOO cold and we had to leave after 20 minutes because we were freezing our asses off. I don't think I would ever go for a normal movie showing but it's a decent place to go for a Q&A.
The only thing I could think of replacing it with is the Silent Disco, since that thing is impossible to get into without a long wait. The Cinema tent has more room but I don't know how feasible switching things is.

The exact same thing happened to me. Benson walked up and down the line talking with people and thanking us for waiting. Then he stood by the door and made sure they packed in as many people as possible. It's kind of frustrating that he had to do that though and I feel like the cinema tent and the comedy tent could do a little better with distribution of information both amongst the staff and to the patrons.
And I'm willing to bet one of the other comedians you had was Kyle Kinane.

My friend and I went to the cinema tent for the Bernstein Laurel and Hardy shorts and it was so cold that we left early. Steve Bernstein, before they started, even asked one of the people working in there to turn the air blower away from the stage. I bet during normal years that would have felt better, but it was so mild last year. I think that was the first time in 6 years I have ever complained about being cold.
Watching the USA-Italy world cup game in '06 was absolutely worth it. Best atmosphere I've ever been a part of for a soccer match outside of a stadium. Otherwise I've only been in there once or twice since '04, and I end up leaving really quickly because the AC actually makes me cold.
I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I went in the cinema tent my four years at Bonnaroo.
That said, I think they should keep it, but it needs to be reconfigured badly. I really liked to old set up with mats up front, and a fuck ton of couches behind them. The fold out chairs they've replaced that with just suck completely. Aside from being uncomfortable, having no incline/just a flat line of chairs makes it impossible to see the screen sometimes. I really don't understand why they haven't put bleachers in, similar to the comedy tent. If I were in charge, though, it would be ALL COUCHES AND MATTRESSES MOTHERFUCKER

They did put in bleachers a couple of years back. All along the back. Didn't notice if they went away again, though.

This is the only reason I would ever go in there. My first year was last year and I never considered going in the cinema or the comedy tent. However, if they had shown the Euro matches last year in the cinema tent or the WC was going on, I would definitely hit it up. But, I probably wouldnt go to 'Roo in a WC year because I usually watch all the games and that would be hard at Roo unless I went and missed a bunch of acts which wouldnt be worth it.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

I fell asleep on one of the couches that year in 2006 with the World Cup game. There was maybe 20-30 people in the cinema tent at the time (something like 3 or 4 a.m.). When I woke up the entire place was packed like sardines and people were cheering wildly and I had no clue what was going on at first. Very interesting way to start the day.
I say they keep it there and make it a little bigger as well. I say don't show any films though. Have a live stream of a show currently going on. They could have a schedule of acts playing all day in there and if you feel the need to sit in some AC you can and still enjoy a show. They could also add some more phone charging stations.
Another idea would be for them to use as a place for artists interviews in which patrons could attend. Maybe have a Q&A with the audience.

These are some good ideas(if they upgrade the seating) but Bonnaroo Music and ARTS Festival is already lacking in the Arts department.

I've seen some amazing movies in the cinema tent. Mostly music documentaries. Two that stand out are When The Music Dies (which you can actually watch for free on Hulu right now and it's HIGHLY recommended by me) and Louisiana Fairytale which was about the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and featured them coming out to play a small set in the tent.
I also would have loved to seen some of the movies that feature Q&A with the creators after but had other conflicts.

Those seem to draw really well. I was going to attend the Q&A with Kristen Bell last year but there was a big-ass wait. Good for them, bad for me.

This will be my first year down and the farm and I have a few questions about the cinema tent. My first question is when do they release the schedule for the cinema tent or what films will be shown in the cinema tent and do people give out free stuff at the cinema tent. Just wondering because while looking at last year's 2012 cinema tent schedule Criterion Collection was their presenting three films and was wondering if they were giving out stuff or selling any of the films that they have?

I can only speak to your last question. The only time I've seen things for sale at the Cinema tent was for Lebowski fest a couple years back.

When they release the schedule they will also show the cinema schedule that coincides with stage and tent action. A full 24-hr schedule will be in your guidebook when you arrive. Also, it should be on the ap schedule when it gets updated, though they sometimes wait until the last minute to update the ap.
I've never been to an event in the cinema tent that included a giveaway but there are a lot of giveaways on the farm so I wouldn't be surprised if they sometimes do. There typically isn't a merchandise table there but there is a concession stand of sorts.

I can see your point; on the other hand, in 2011 when the weather was mega hot, it was nice to go to the C Tent about 9am with a big ass cup of coffee and chill while watching bad Kevin Bacon movies.

Gatsby in the cinema tent with Jay-Z commentary/ q&a
Shiz yeah. I like the more interactive features. Granted, I wouldn't spend 1 minute in the cinema tent if it meant missing a single moment of music I liked, but there's lots of potential to keep the Cinema Tent a fixture.
I remember them playing Coal Miner's Daughter in 2011...seriously? I guess that's just a time killer for people to come and sit in. A Rocky Horror Sing-a-Long would be huge fun. Have John Waters come back and do some commentary on his early films. People ate up his show @ the Comedy Tent! A documentary on Divine just came out and is making the rounds for film festivals, if it's playing I will totally see it.
they play US soccer games in there during the world cup and for that reason it needs to stay i wait all year for the roo i wait 4 for the world cup and im not trying to miss roo or a US game in the world cup so i say keep it ppl go in there its not alot of space or resources
I wouldnt attend Roo during a World Cup year but I absolutely support people that are Roo's right to see the games. During the WC, I watch every single game of the tournament and I couldnt do that with being at Roo for four days. Hell, if the US plays a WC match during Roo, it should be on the What stage screens and be scheduled as an act for that time. The games are generally during the day so I dont think it would be a big deal.
Last year was my first year and I didnt set foot in the Cinema Tent. I dont think I even looked at the schedule because I had no desire to waste my festival watching movies I could watch at home. If they had a Q&A with someone I really liked, I would probably consider it though.
With that said, I support it being there because it is something that pulls people away from stages and allows more room. Anything that allows more room, I am all for.

Just read the underline/bold as one sentance.. And heck ya!
tear down the cinema tent and the comedy tent and create a new stage where the comedy acts can perform and everyone can watch them without having to get a ticket and stand on crazy lines.
