So my boyfriend and I are driving down and going VIP. We want to give our buddy a lift down but he's GA, what are our options? Obviously he can't go in VIP but we don't want to wait in the long line for GA, is this inevitable?

You will have your VIP badge hanging on your rearview or your dash which will get you past the traffic to the VIP entry.
Likely from there your buddy will have to get out and walk over to the GA tent only section. I didn't see anyone doing this last year at VIP but I can't imagine that they would give you too hard a time.
The other option would be to convince your buddy to buy the single ticket VIP upgrade package and stay with you

Part of the luxury of VIP is not having to wait in the long line of cars going in the GA entrances. They may, as theshining referenced, let your buddy walk his stuff in from that the VIP check in. Camp James Bond, etc. isn't too far from the VIP entrance. Tent camping also isn't too terribly far away. You also could try to coordinate with someone on here to meet up at Wal-Mart, and they could take your buddy in if they have the room.
Yeah the last couple of years I went as a group of three and with all of us doing VIP we had to buy the upgrade. It isn't exactly through Bonnaroo though so you had to stop in Murfressboro at a hotel and exchange your GA ticket for a VIP one with a travel agency group. I think they also were the ones providing hotel and airport shuttle packages
