just a heads up if you're not familiar with the area it is most def walking distance but be safe on the walk home at night because that area can get sketchy. Parkway (where red roof in is) and Boulevard which runs parallel to parkway is home to the Bedford pines apartments which is the largest section 8 complex in the entire southeast. Shit can def go down at night on either of those streets.
Not sure how it is now because it has been renovated and turned in to a red roof inn but before it was a red roof inn it was a notorious crack/prostitution motel, can't remember the name though.
Well there seems to be a lot of us booking there. Strength in numbers?
haha yea totally, just be aware of your surroundings on the walk back but y'all will be fine! It looks much nicer on the outside now that it is a red roof inn than it did before
Oh the pros of living thirty minutes from Atlanta.
First fest I'm going too that will be full of inforoo'ers so you guys can just look for the really red-eyed (from TIREDNESS) younging in the American flag shorts. Most likely crowd surfing too. There are a few of you I'd like to meet!
American flag shorts describes 50% of the crowd.
Yes but I'll be the one pulling them off the best.
haha you will have no problem finding crack there that's for sure. That place is legit nuts when the sun goes down. I work as a EMT for Atlanta and we go there more than I like to admit
Shaky Knees wins lineup week. I'm going to try to make this happen since I'm not going to do Roo. For those who have been, do they do afters? Is VIP worth it?
A lot of the gangbangers and homeless in the Old Fourth Ward have been patients of mine at some point. hopefully they will remember me and decide not to mug me if I am walking through the area alone lol.

If you guys are worried about the dangerous location, I have a story from Music Midtown that's similar.
I was with my brother and his friends and we stayed in Waffle House long enough until the point where MARTA was closed so we were stuck in Five Points (I believe) until 3AM. We were offered plenty of drugs, approached by large men, and saw a few guns here and there. So if a 13 year old (at the time) boy doesn't die from that situation, you guys should be fine.
How is the area near the venue? I haven't been to Atlanta since I was probably 11 and I remember being scared shitless.
The area is fine. The old 4th ward is a really up and coming cool neighborhood. That being said there are still some rough areas (mainly parkway and boulevard just east of the venue) you shouldn't have any issues though. Atlanta in general has been getting a lot nicer over the years

How is Courtland street? That's where I'll likely be staying at the Motel 6 or the Hilton there.

hehehe....I think the reactions to the location from out of towners are pretty funny. And not entirely off base. Less than a mile southwest of the venue is probably the largest cluster of homeless that I can think of in the city. They're definitely better than the dope boys, you shouldn't see them in this area. Expect to get pan handled though.
' Also, there's a grocery store a few blocks north east of the venue that has been eloquently dubbed "murder kroger".

courtland is fine just a bunch of homeless people on the streets in the area because there is a huge homeless shelter right there, specifically at courtland and pine st. For the most part they are all harmless just bother you for money and such

That doesn't sound too sketchy, thanks for the info!
Seriously, I am almost thinking of saying "QUACK IT" and not walk for James Madison University's graduation just so I can road trip down to Atlanta.
If you want to, we can set up an assembly where you walk in front of us, I shake you hand and hand you a folder that has nothing in it. You can even wear your robe and throw your hat if you want. Also congrats on graduating
haha thanks for the congrats! I certainly appreciate the prestige of the Shaky Knee's service so if you see someone walking around in a purple graduation gown, just come up and say congrats along with a few corny jokes and it will practically be the same ceremony!

I'm glad you said this because I realized I may also have to skip my graduation for this. However, my ceremony is the weekend before, so I'm good. Still, I would've had a lot of explaining to do to mother if I had purchased a ticket and missed my graduation.
Same, I can only imagine my mom's face when I tell her "But Mom, The Strokes are headlining AND American Football is back together!" Although I don't see how that weighs less than a diploma, her and her finances might say otherwise

Wait, if the area is nice how is the Red Roof Inn considered so shitty? I wasn't concerned about safety stuff until I read all of this... Should I be nervous? Because you guys are making me feel like I should be nervous.
The way you're making it sound is like every hotel within walking distance is going to be sketchy..

I've ridden through the area on my bicycle around midnight before. I truly believe you'll be fine. There are some very nice area's in very close proximity as well. Some of the best around town. I would imagine that the hotels in the general vicinity will be booked by festival goers, so I wouldn't expect some sketch ball to be renting out the room next to you.
There are tons of nice restaurants / things to do really close to this place.
I'm generally one of the hardest people to please when it comes to music festival lineups but GOD DAMN....this shit is TIGHT. Spiritualized and Built to Spill are the cherries on top of the sexiest lineup to drop since last year's p4k lineup
Have never been to the ATL other than the city's cozy little airport but a trip seems to be in order...perhaps i'll be joining y'all & the whores at the red roof inn?

This lineup is great. It's going to be interesting to see Counterpoints lineup tomorrow. This lineup has no Hip Hop or Edm really while Counterpoint is mostly Edm and hip hop.

I missed both them and Matthew E. White. Thanks to you and Horn for making my top 10 harder.
Matthew E White will be easy because he'll be the first one playing. The only hard part is getting there on time. Note to my group we WIll make it on time.
E: also, where is this Sufjan show going on. I've been googeling all morning and finding nothing. If it were the same night the Avetts headlined, I'd easily skip out for him.

I think the poster is in order of headliners nights because that's what it was last year. So if it is: Friday- Strokes Saturday- Avett Brothers Sunday- Wilco

Think somebody mentioned the Cobb Energy Center. If that's the case it's about 10 miles north on I 75 from Midtown. Marta trains do not go there although you may find bus service that does. I believe it's on Akers Mill Road if that helps.
