Super late to the game, and don't feel like doing tons of back reading: could I get the general consensus on the following questions (I just bought my ticket!):
How is the park? Was the festival at the same location last year? What is the general feel of the neighborhood that houses Central Park? Seedy? Gentrified? I am looking at hotels downtown in Atlanta - is it super inconvenient to stay there? This is my first ATL visit - where should I go in the city outside of the Fest? Is Savannah a must-do day trip? I want to experience the culture of both Atlanta and Georgia.
Thanks in advance, guys!
you should do some back reading, but i would say your most convenient/decent hotel options near the fest will be on peachtree...or you could stay anywhere north of there up to buckhead...or, you may want to try and get close to one of the late night venues. ..decide if you want to do marta(train) or uber....and i would strongly suggest Charleston over Savannah . ...both too far for a day trip though.

Awesome, thanks for responding - maybe I'll re-read what's been posted. Is it a general opinion that Charleston > Savannah? How's the nightlife of both. I'd likely stay the night in one to get a beach day and some nightlife.
One more, do we anticipate the single day Friday tix to sell out? Any word on that? I have friends who are debating on buying that ticket, but I want to gauge how long they realistically have to purchase those tickets.

Dude, neither Savannah nor Charleston are near Atlanta (both are a 4-5 hr min drive, minimum). I can't speak for Charleston, but Savannah is an amazing place to experience on the weekends. Lots of art shows, concerts, bars, and in some sections of town you're free to roam the streets with an open container. Mostly college kids and the definition of a party scene. It's a somewhat small town, but worth the experience (I've never been anywhere else that quite compares when it comes to the uniqueness of the atmosphere).
The area around the park is not great (normally not an area of town I would be caught walking alone at night in, and I've lived near it my entire life). HOWEVER, there will be tons of people roaming the streets (safety in numbers) and plenty of security/police presence. Don't worry about anything.

Cool. I'm aware how far both places are, but I want to check it out. I'll probably do Savannah. Thanks for the insight. Can't wait for this fest.
I was just thinking about if they would last through the weekend at these prices. haha Looks like I'm going to pay a little more next week.

Anybody still looking for a place to stay? I've got a "penthouse suite" at the Georgian Terrace Thursday through Monday. I just had some friends drop out so I've got an extra room in the suite with a Queen bed. Just over $100 per night and within walking distance. PM me if you know someone interested.

Damnit, sorry your friends bailed, but that's a great spot to stay, I'm currently the midst of getting ten people to committ to a room by centennial park. I wish I had known about yours earlier and I could've just let the plans run free. Oh well, good luck finding replacements man!!
3-Day tickets are about to go up in price. Fingers crossed that we'll get a big addition (or a few smaller ones) after the increase! --cough, cough, Beck, cough--

Nah man, the owner said they weren't adding anyone. And he even explained why he chose Tame Impala for Sunday

I've heard this a couple times now, can someone please link that interview in a post on here because I've only read one interview with him and I don't recall him explaining why Tame Impala is closing.... And I'd really love to know why (because it's a great choice) please hook me up with the link and it would be greatly appreciated

First look at the article. I find it somewhat odd and interesting that they tried to get MMJ to close out the fest and was unsuccessful. Their kicking off the tour on the Friday after the festival an hour away from Atlanta. Figured MMJ would jump on the opportunity to headline a growing festival to kick off their tour. I am excited for Tame Impala, but damn.

I'm wondering which band they intend to have there every year. That seems like an interesting concept that could turn into some pretty interesting colabs with the "house band". It seemed like Roo was on track with that strategy when Galactic was there so frequently but sadly that hasn't lasted.

Yeah it's pretty unfortunate that the two headliners they seem to want the most (Beck and MMJ), they couldn't get

It's pretty great though because they replaced those headliners with some great acts and I'm sure they'll get a Beck and MMJ in the not so distant future (hopefully in the same year)

It's either Deer Tick or Portugal The Man. Both were there last year and this year (with Deer Tick being part of Diamond Rugs).
I wasn't buying into you guy's thoughts about leaving before Tame Impala for Lightning Bolt. However, after listening to the new The Soft Moon, I'm starting to think LB+SM might be better than TI.
Guysssss, I'm debating selling my Ride ticket for Friday in order to get a Dead Milkmen ticket instead... What are the community members' thoughts on what I should do?

The way I look at it is this may be your only chance to see a Ride headlining gig, whereas the Dead Milkmen are still a relatively active touring/recording band. You'll probably have other chances to see a Dead Milkmen headlining gig, but don't know if you can say the same for Ride...
Either way you're picking between the two best post-fest gigs on Friday. Either choice is a great one.
