PHISH, WEDNESDAY 03/28/1990 BETA THETA PI FRAT HOUSE PARTY, DENISON UNIVERSITY Granville, OH
SET 1: Possum, Ya Mar, Fee, Walk Away, Tweezer[1], Uncle Pen[2], The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > Suzy Greenberg, Take the 'A' Train > Runaway Jim[1], You Enjoy Myself, Good Times Bad Times
SET 2: Funky Bitch, Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Jesus Just Left Chicago, The Lizards, Split Open and Melt, Contact > La Grange, Rift, Cavern[1], Highway to Hell, If I Only Had a Brain[3]
ENCORE: Carolina, Sweet Adeline[2], Whipping Post
[1] First known performance. [2] First known Phish performance. [3] Fish on trombone.
This show marked the first known performances of Tweezer, Cavern, and Runaway Jim as well as the first known Phish performances of Sweet Adeline and Uncle Pen. Contact contained a Sailor's Hornpipe tease from Trey and If I Only Had a Brain featured Fish on trombone. A cover of James Bracken’s Steppin’ Out (which appears on Live Cream Volume II) may have been performed as the first encore tune, but this is unconfirmed.
whoa are you hating on Beta bro? We are the singing fraternity it's only right they should get the debuts
haha no just being dumb. i was a phi in college and the betas were our next door neighbors and we hated each other. the betas would fine brothers for smoking weed in the house.
jokes on us though we got kicked off campus like every other semester because we were a fucking mess.
the cavern is actually OK until the give the director segment. trey screws up the lyrics, it sounds like page is a child kind of just mashing the keyboard, and it all sort of falls apart instrumentally. pretty bad. and i guess this early version had lots of dick puns which is strangely upsetting for a song thats become so important to me lol. But, it's the first time they played it live, so i forgive some of that. also they go straight into "Highway to Hell" after that which is a plus. i mean it sounds awful but fuck it, absolute dream song for me to hear live, maybe one day.

r/phish and r/gratefuldead joined forces to protect a little corner of r/place. we've also created an unlikely alliance with something called Jojo? that purple monster thing. i still don't know what it is but we wouldn't be able to defend our circles without their help. so thank you jojo, whoever you are.

Just got an email that they are holding a lottery each day for the first people to be let in the building for GA. No lining up on the street all day outside the garden. Very intrigued to see how this works and if it sticks going forward

Great second set, lots of fun. Very happy to hear Esther finally. Surrounded by some really great people on the floor tonight.
But my buddy texted me and said that he was watching stream and people online said someone jumped/fell from chase bridge to seats below. No idea if this is true. But if it is, really hope this stops happening soon.

Report is some injuries from the jumper but everybody OK.
Last night was unassailable. A proper Dec 30 show. Ripped from start to finish. Band was having fun and it showed.
No idea what to expect tonight. No balloons in the ceiling so no countdown I guess? I felt confident they'd do some kind of gag but maybe it'll just be a show with 3 sets which is fine.
Not chasing anything in particular but have been wanting a sneakin sally.
If anyone is watching the stream I'll probably be visible. I'm in the section directly behind the stage with an orange shirt on.

this is one of the coolest things i've seen at a live performance. love that they started with the dolphins and then brought in the whale. the crowd LOVED when the whale came in.
PHISH, WEDNESDAY 04/20/2022 MADISON SQUARE GARDEN New York, NY Soundcheck: Leaves (this soundcheck is likely incomplete)
SET 1: Carini > Possum, The Moma Dance > Leaves, Strange Design, Stash, Blaze On
SET 2: Sigma Oasis > Down with Disease > The Howling -> Twist > Mountains in the Mist, Reba, Drift While You're Sleeping
ENCORE: Gumbo, Slave to the Traffic Light
This was the rescheduled date for the show that had been postponed due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 surge in New York City in December of 2021. Moma Dance was unfinished.
the 4/20 show was totally fine, 2/5 stars. The Howling fit nicely into the setlist, looking forward to hearing new versions of that one moving forward. My first Strange Design since 7/3/2010, also pretty sure i had a notable gap for Mountains in the Mist as well.
PHISH, THURSDAY 04/21/2022 MADISON SQUARE GARDEN New York, NY SET 1: Suzy Greenberg > 46 Days, Plasma, The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday > Avenu Malkenu > The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday, Wolfman's Brother, Esther, Ghost
SET 2: Chalk Dust Torture -> Tweezer > Also Sprach Zarathustra > Maze, About to Run, The Mango Song > Harry Hood > Character Zero -> Tweezer -> Character Zero
ENCORE: A Life Beyond The Dream, Tweezer Reprise
This was the rescheduled date for the show that had been postponed due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 surge in New York City in December of 2021. Suzy Greenberg was dedicated to “the hero of the song,” Suzy Greenberg, who was attending her first Phish show. Chalk Dust Torture was unfinished. Trey teased Super Bad in 2001. Mike quoted Kung in Harry Hood.
this was a proper 12/30 show, straight fire from suzy to tweeprise. this is the kind of show I typically want to get when I see Phish. TMYSIY always gets me emotional. My first Esther in a while but honestly I'd be fine with never hearing that song again. Chalkdust -> Tweezer > 2001 is a very aggressive three song stretch. I think "About To Run" is a great late-era Trey song and fit in well amongst all the 90s tracks.
side note I was seated in the Chase Bridge section for the first two shows, and really loved it. Only a few rows so generally there is less chance you'll be encountering obnoxious people or tons of cigarette smoke. Decent sound and great views. Best in the front row but second row works as well. The trade-off is you are so far up you feel the roar of the crowd a little less, I felt less like I was a part of the show. But the pros outweigh the cons, I'll be going for CB seats at any future MSG shows.
PHISH, FRIDAY 04/22/2022 MADISON SQUARE GARDEN New York, NY SET 1: Everything's Right > Tube, 555 > Back on the Train, Army of One, Axilla (Part II) > Bathtub Gin > Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.
SET 2: Set Your Soul Free > Light > Fuego > What's the Use? > Backwards Down the Number Line
SET 3: Free, A Wave of Hope, Waves > Sand, Split Open and Melt
ENCORE: It's Ice
This was the rescheduled date for the show that had been postponed due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 surge in New York City in December of 2021. Mike quoted Quadrophonic Toppling in Axilla (Part II). Trey teased Happy Birthday in Set Your Soul Free and wished his daughter Bella a happy birthday in Backwards Down the Number Line. For the third set and encore, the stage was raised with a screen showing moving images in front of and below the band. During Waves, dolphins and a whale flew throughout the venue. Kelp descended from above the band during Split Open and Melt and fell to the stage after the song was over. Prior to It's Ice, there was a prerecorded freezing sound as the image on the screen "froze." PHISH, THURSDAY 04/21/2022
just crazy. set 2 probably my favorite set of the weekend, it all just flowed so well. And I'll stan any set with a WTU? In set 1 got my first Axilla Part II! I and many others in the crowd got super excited when we heard the lyrics start and realized it wasn't Part I.
and again the "gag" was incredible. didn't realize the foreshadowing in "Free" until afterwards (in a minute i'll be free / and you'll be splashing in the sea). SOAM was great.
PHISH, SATURDAY 04/23/2022 MADISON SQUARE GARDEN New York, NY SET 1: Fluffhead, Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove, Simple -> Egg in a Hole Jam -> Simple, Divided Sky, First Tube
SET 2: No Men In No Man's Land -> Prince Caspian > Piper > Gotta Jibboo, I Always Wanted It This Way > Lonely Trip, Walls of the Cave
ENCORE: Wilson > David Bowie, More
This was the the rescheduled date for the show that had been postponed due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19 surge in New York City in December of 2021. Trey teased San-Ho-Zay in No Men in No Man's Land, Dave's Energy Guide in Piper, and In Memory of Elizabeth Reed in David Bowie.
good show. all about the Simple. big gap for me for IAH.
i was in sec 112 (section directly behind the stage) for nights 3 and 4 and it's a great place to see a show. awesome vantage point for the dolphins and whales. just felt a little crowded back there unfortunately. by N4 after 4 days of shows and 4 days of hoofing it around NYC doing tourist stuff my feet were killing me but I made it through. it's more the standing still that hurts, if I can move around and dance it's not as bad. But we were pretty crammed in with people on night 4 (night 3 we had an empty seat on our row which made all the difference).
MSG still one of the best places to see Phish. the staff just understands Phish fans, it's clearly homebase for the band. they tolerate us but also don't put up with any of our bullshit, i.e. there were quite a few stories of people rightfully being ejected for being assholes, which is good.
having said that, sitting here working from home with wook flu for the first time in a long time, I think I'm finally able to say that I prefer outdoor phish to indoor phish. not inhaling all that smoke, the sky above you and the breeze, all just feels more comfortable and natural to me now. it's also nice to have a GA situation or a lawn where I can easily get away from the crowds if I want a little more space.
having said that all my show neighbors were awesome at every show. made plenty of show friends and had many great and hilarious conversations. need to emphasize that because i frequently point out the negatives of the phish fanbase, but overall the vast majority of people i meet at phish shows are respectful, kind, and intelligent.
killer run and so glad i went! and just a month or so until i get to do it all again at The Wharf. gunna be a great summer!

wharf stubhub prices right now if anyone wants to catch some super cheap phish shows.
last month was considering buying some pit tickets but decided not to since the aftermarket looked soft and i didn't want to struggle to sell my current 300 level seats. also i'll know folks there and it will be easy to get seats together in the 300s since it's undersold.
my expectations are not super high since these are tour openers, but would be great if phish dropped a fan show on us.

kinda unfortunate considering i shunned this in favor of a festival bc they were the same price for 3 days lol

we make the best decisions we can given the information we have at the time. it was easy to predict the wharf wouldn't be a difficult ticket, maybe even a ticket you could easily get for under face, but i didn't expect $6 tickets.

So jealous of y’all Bama Babies rn. About to head on a family vacation or I’d be there too. Can’t wait for Tuesday and Wednesday. Be safe and have a blast
