i think sonicbids is about to start that competition where the top 10 voted bands get $1000 and a chance to play Roo. Amazon created an interface between jobs and workers... basically people that want to click things for pennies, and people with pennies that need things clicked a lot.
seems that if one were lacking ethics or overcome with the need to play Roo, they could buy votes for around 1-3 cents a piece and destroy the competition. sure, there are plenty of vote bots out there, but they are so easy to spot, this would be literally undetectable.

no, just spotting a flaw in any informal online poll. I would like to think that bands wouldnt resort to this, but something like this recently happened to a friend of mine in an online photo contest and i decided to research how easy it is to cheat at such things. basically seeing if my suspicions were irrational or not. maybe I hurt the competition by even making this thread, or simply brought awareness to suspicious spikes in voting.
also, most of these online polls arent indicative of talent or even good music, but rather who has the most facebooks friends. frankly i dont see a real difference between pounding the virtual pavement, begging for votes by friends and families, and paying random strangers pennies to vote for you. both are kind of undignified and arent based on perceived worth.
