Okay, so new here and to Roo this year, came out of the shadows on the lurker thread, but I have a question about the What stage for Macca plans. How far back are you if you are not in "the pit?" Do they clear the pit after every show? My wife and I went to Jazz Fest a couple years ago to catch Wilco, Lucinda Williams, and Arcade Fire and wound up just a few rows back, so we had to kind of stake out our claim early, but we could still take turns going to bathroom in between shows and get back to our "spot." That was not possible of course because of crowds when final headliner was on stage. I'm pretty bummed about giving up so much to see Macca, but it is a big priority for my SO. Is there a "line" that forms for the pit and if so, how far ahead of the act? Thanks for all of the help on this board.

1) It's not far from the stage, but those spots do get camped on. 2) Yes, they clear the pit after every show. 3) There is a line that forms on each side of the pit for the headliner. How far ahead depends on the act. I went to Charles Bradley at noon last year. When I went into the pit, there was already a line for RHCP. On the flip side of this, people also waited all day for Radiohead, and a couple of people from here walked into the pit five minutes before the show started. Sometimes, it works for you that some people think the pit is for VIP or something.

The crowd will be huge, so if you want close you will have to get there earlier in the day to claim a spot. It sounds like a lot of people plan to spend the day in the pit line so that is a big time commitment. I would guess you will need to start working your way in around early afternoon to ensure a good spot
Thanks for the info! It makes me sick at my stomach on the investment of time, but in the end I will still be at Roo, and get to see some great sets while in line.

We plan our healiners out. We have about 8 people confirmed so far, so we will shift watch a camped on spot. Two stay while 6 roam. Works well for us. Of course you don't always have that many folks, and that's when we make friends quick. Corn, food, or beer makes friends quick.
If you are going to camp a spot all day, make sure you have plenty of water. There is zero shade at What stage, and the midday sun could ruin your day.

We have the nice short chairs with shade covers built in. But we do two hour shifts for bathroom breaks and water. Its also why two stay, so one can leave if needed.
I've always had really good luck at getting up front for the tents but never for either of the stages. I'm determined to change that and miss anything I have to for Paul. How do you know when the pit line for the headliner has started?

Go to the left side of the stage, than hand the security guard $10 per head and he will let you right in
