So. This is probably a stupid newbie question, but are there going to be single day tix at any point? My near elderly dad and also my kindergartner son want to go on Paul McCartney day only, and stay in a hotel. Neither would last all day in the heat followed by "roo"ughing it that night. I know the kid would get in free, any hope for my dad other than buying the full fest ticket? I'm trying to decide how much I love them. (kidding, mostly)
I think the logistical nightmare that single day tickets would cause would probably outweigh the money for them. If you had single day tickets they would have to clear out Centeroo every night, which would be a ridiculous pain in the ass. Now what I could see them doing is bringing back (they had them in 08 right or am I making that up?) the weekend pass for just Sat and Sun
I would say that if Bonnaroo fails to sell out yet again, single-day tickets might not be a bad idea for them in the future.
I guess they could do that, but that would slow down lines even more to get into centeroo. They could make another entrance just for those with one day passes I suppose.
BTW this seems like a good time to tell a fun festival story. At Rothbury in 09 they would clear the grounds after the last band ended including the famous forest. Watching these giant out of shape cliche Chicago type security guards chasing these far more athletic and far more altered wooks around the trees was one of the highlights of the set. Chaos.

Thanks for the quick reply, everyone. I have to say I felt ridiculously guilty telling my dad I was going to see Paul McCartney. (obviously not the only person/band I'm going for, but definitely what would be relevant to my dad). My son started crying when he overheard and found out he couldn't go. Parent/daughter of the year. . I may just have to suck it up and buy my dad a ticket. Haha. If i weren't a roo virgin I would just bring my son a long, but I think trying to keep a 6 yr old comfortable/happy/etc would be a bit much for the first go round.

I rub it in my mom's and aunt's face that I get to see him (they are big fans). I should probably stop doing that...
As for bringing your son. It is possible to do that with some research. You have to decide if you want this trip to relax and unwind, or if you don't mind focusing on him. I would like to bring my son to Roo, but that fest is "my" time. I see lots of kids at Roo (especially in family camping). There’s so much to do, I don’t think keeping him happy will be an issue, but as far as comfortable… It gets very, very HOT. That would be where you would need tips/advice.
Either way, I’m glad you’re coming! I hope you have an amazing first year! Welcome!
Time for a quick story. Kind of related. So growing up, I was SUPER jealous because the ghostbusters showed up to my older brothers 6th birthday party. They had the car and everything. So I wanted to do something similar for my son. For his 4th bday party, I had some of my guy friends that are never around my son put on wigs and dress up as the Beatles and come to my sons bday party. He was scared to DEATH of them while they were there, but as soon as they left, he was bragging to everyone that the Beatles came to his bday party, and ringo played his drum set! He still talks about it. Lol. Im taking him to see "the pretend Beatles" tomorrow night. (Rain, Beatles tribute band). He's so pumped! -end random ramblings about the kid and his Beatles obsession-

That's so awesome. He sounds like a really cool kid. Teaching a tiny person about music sounds like an amazing experience.

It is. Which is why I'm so torn about taking him or not. We are literally going to Disney world the week before roo, though. So I'm thinking momma might be selfish this year and totally make it "me" time.

I told my dad I was going this year and he said, "really I always wanted to see Paul McCartney and Tom Petty". I shot him down real quick and said hell no, you're playing grandparent that weekend, and watching my kids. I don't feel the slightest bit bad.

Oh dude, I think you're fine then. He'll be over the moon about that. I'm sure there will be many more opportunities to see Sir Paul in a much more family friendly environment. And there will always be another Bonnaroo to bring him too.

Holy crap I hope you're in shape. We did a 7 day Disney trip last year, and I was exhausted at the end of it. Of course we were there on their busiest week of the year, with two kids. But I do not envy you doing a week at Disney then a week at roo back to back.
Your kid will love it though. If your staying on the resort, make sure you take advantage of the room delievered souvenirs, the only way to fly.

I've taken a 6 year old. As long as you have a wagon lined with a pillow and blanket and a lot of water/snacks you'll be fine.
One time at a festival we decorated the wagon with glow sticks and flashy lights and plopped the kids in it for the night shows. Everyone was very respectful of our space.
I'm not a parent, but I would think hard about bringing kids. Not as much the heat and all because when I was that age I could actually handle it better than I can now, but they may see some things that not even you can explain, nevermind trying to explain it to a 6 year old.

If it's your first Roo don't bring your kid. I'm a mom of two and there's always guilt and everything else but there us really nothing like your first Roo. You should be able to completely relax and take it all in
My kids have never asked many questions because basically they could care less about what other people were doing. No one around us were out of control. In fact more times than not if someone wanted to engage in such behavior I received a tap on the shoulder and was asked permission.
Any questions that have been asked were answered in the same manner that I do in real life. As truthful and age appropriate as I can.
Festivals with children isn't as much of a problem as one would think. It's something I know a lot about and if you're familiar with my posts here you'll see that it's something that I also speak passionately about.
They do have single day tickets for those who know people in bands performing at fest and know people associated with the festival. In 2010 before The National show, I met some folks who were only there for the day because they knew some smaller cafe act.

I'll just shoot Sir Paul an email. He will help us out!! (I kid, I kid)

CHICK! It's not "selfish" to go to Roo by yourself as a Roo virgin, the week after taking your kid to DISNEY! Trust me... I'm popping my Roo cherry this year... two weeks after taking my 2 year old, 6 year old and 13 year old to Disney! lol. See? I can't let YOU feel guilty because then I would start questioning my confidence that I totally deserve this four day run away and music drowning experience even though my 6 and 13 year old are totally jealous that I get to go hear so much music without them and my 2 year old - if he would start using words that were more than just conveniently useful to him - would also be voicing his opposition to missing out (he tries to sing along with Of Monsters and Men in the car). So - solution? Meet up with Roo virgins like myself and my friend who is also leaving her son behind and battling the guilt pains so we can all just focus on having a good time.

If the unnecessary sarcastic posts are indicative of the people who have been shouting out for the VIP camping group - I'm so in. lol. These are my kind of people.
Worth noting that a ticket to a Macca solo show will run you about the same as a Roo ticket.
The ticket to the Macca solo show i went to was ~$65.. I wish roo was that much.
Were they in the very last row? For the show I was considering going to, the very last row (and seats behind the stage) were $60, the top tier of the arena was $90, and the rest were $175-$350.

i was 2nd row upper deck of the arena, not bad seats
