Glad I was laying low on new music the last few weeks. Feeling refreshed.
Actually a pretty solid month. Volcano Choir and Clear Soul Forces are up there for me, as is Arctic Monkeys. I kind of feel like we've hit the wall of Diminishing Returns on the whole "electro-pop" thing, as I found both Chvrches and London Grammar to be way underwhelming, and that's really right in my wheelhouse. Pelican's album is great (did it actually come out yet?), that might actually get my vote. We'll see. Probably Volcano Choir though, that thing is awesome.
I thought Churches was pretty weak lyrically. A couple songs were solid, but others had some cringe worthy phrases in them.
I really enjoyed a lot of this month's releases. For shizs and gigs... 2. Clear Soul Forces 3. Black Joe Lewis
Black Joe's latest release definitely grew on me. I didnt enjoy it as much as his previous stuff, but its a solid front to back album.
Yeah, I've honestly been enjoying BJL more and more with each listen. I think that this release is actually much more focused than Scandalous. Some tracks like Dar Es Salaam and Vampire really grew on me, and fit the fall season very well. Tell Em What Your Name Is will always be one of my favorite upbeat party albums though.
I had it down to either Arctic Monkeys or The Volcano Choirs, but CSF is winning me over after the first 3-4 songs. The Obits and Deer Tick are also going to require some more of my attention. How is that JT 20/20 Pt. 2? Is it going to cause me more conflict?
Edit: thanks sang. Forgot about Janelle Monae too. I'm a fucking mess.

I can't believe I even gave it a chance after their last two albums, but I am enjoying the new KOL album. They went back to their roots of their first 3 albums, which I truly like, and did it well.
Colour me impressed.
After one listen, the new KoL sounds pretty good. It's not my pick for the month, but it's an honorable mention.
This is the strongest month of 2013 for women. I mean between London Grammar, Neko Case, Janelle Monae, Jessy Lanza - just off the top of my head, women might make up 4 of my top 5 for the month. Utterly refreshing. I have five days; winner still to come.
Coming into September, I knew there were going to be some great releases, but most came from artists I was previously unaware of, a great month of discovery for me. Okkervil River, Janelle Monae, Neko Case, Chvrches, Clear Soul Forces, Touché Amore, Jessy Lanza, The Obits, all amazing albums. In the end, I had to go with AM, it's probably my favourite album they've made yet, and it's gotten the most play from me. Should be a couple top 25 songs of the year coming from this month.
