Just wondering if anyone knows how far from the roo the Jack Daniels distill is. I think i saw a sign last year just before we got to the roo, but I could be wrong, we were hoping to come down a day early and visit and more importantly drink !

Not sure how far it is, I remember seeing the signs too. But if I am not mistaken I think the distellery is in a dry county, thus you can not drink it on the tour. Thats just hear-say though, not positive.

Looks like I was close...
From Wikipedia: "Interestingly enough, Moore County, where the Jack Daniel's distillery is located, is one of the state's many dry counties. Therefore, while it is legal to distill the product within the county, it is illegal to purchase it there. However, a state law has provided one exception: a distillery may sell one commemorative product, regardless of county statutes.[10] Jack Daniel's now sells Gentleman Jack and Jack Daniel's Single Barrel at the distillery's White Rabbit Bottle Shop."

It is roughly an hour south of Manchester. We drove the extra hour last year on our way in, coming from the north, so that we could catch the JD tour and then come in to the 'Roo by the not as crowded south entrance. The tour is awesome... takes about an hour. The first tour is at 8 AM!!

Jack Daniels is in Lynchburg, TN. It is 25 miles from Manchester. Tennessee Highway 55 goes straight from Manchester to Lynchburg. It is a good tour and it is true that it is in a dry county, although they do have a special permit to sell commerative (i.e. expensive) bottles. If you have time I recommend it. No samples though.

I didnt even know dry counties still existed. what a bummer thank god for 7-11 and there policy of selling beer 24/7
The Tennesse Constitution mandates that the smallest county in Tennessee be dry (for sale of hard liquor, beer is sold there). Jack Daniels is located in that (Moore) county. Also beer cannot be sold (legally) in Tennessee between 3AM and 6AM (12PM on Sunday) and more restrictions can be placed upon beer sales by local regulations (except in counties where liquor by the drink is sold, then state regulations take precidence). Also FYI package liquor (or wine) cannot be sold (legally) on Sunday in Tennessee.
Liquor stores aren't open on Sundays in Tennessee. And you can only buy beer in the grocery stores here, too, like Meg said about Mississippi. So if you were planning on waiting til you got to Tennessee to buy alcohol, keep that in mind. I'm not sure which all of the counties are dry in TN but there are several... the county where I went to college was dry so we had to drive a good 20-30 minutes to the next county over to buy liquor.
