This will be my first time considering going to Bonnaroo, i've always been intrigued by this festival and this year I have never wanted to make the trek down as badly, the lineup this year is sick! All I have heard about attending the Roo is that it is like nothing else, a one of a kind amazing weekend that is never forgotten. The dilemma I am facing is I am a student, which means not a lot of extra dough in the pocket and I will be coming from Vancouver, BC which is considerably far away from Manchester. Making the trip down I have to face paying for flights, transportation, camping gear etc. If I do decide to go i know I will be trying to pay this trip off for months after but I feel like if I don't go this year I will regret it for the rest of my life. So, my question is...how worth is going to Bonnaroo to you? Should i make this incredible trip down and say skrew how much it will cost?
Also, if I do decide to fly out I really would like to camp in the tent only area as I won't have a car. If i take a flight that arrives thursday morning and I take the first shuttle down at 9:00am do you think i can grab a spot in time before it fills up or should I try and get a flight that arrives wednesday evening just to be safe?
It's my first year going to Bonnaroo too; however, I am volunteering. I live very close to Manchester in neighboring North Carolina and a lot of my friends are going so it is much easier for me to go. I understand your dilemma and it would be very pricey with the flight and everything included. I would still encourage you to go though.
I would like to bring up an alternative to Bonnaroo for you that could be a good bit cheaper. Sasquatch in Washington is certainly within driving distance of Vancouver and has an amazing line-up at least in my opinion.
I was going to say the same thing. Bonnaroo is awesome, and I do think it is worth the expense of getting there. With that said, if you haven't been to any big festival, Sasquatch or Outside lands would both be great I'm sure, and are within (extended) driving distance from BC. Maybe not quite as awesome as Roo or Coachella, but at least in the same league. I haven't been to either but have friends who love those and return anually. I have done Roo, Coachella and Lollapalooza, and have a blast at all each time I go. Roo lineup is great this year but is always great. If its a little too much of a financial stretch to do it this year, I'd say go to something a little closer, and make the trip in the future.

I think it's totally worth it. You should check out this part of inforoo inforoo.com/board/19/tent you may be able to travel with someone heading from your area. I can't guarantee it just yet but I'd be willing to consider figuring out a way to give you a lift from the airport to roo on Wed. if you must fly. I'm doing tent only myself. Plenty of good folks on this board are probably willing to help you out.

If you can afford it (which only you can answer) 'roo is absolutely worth it. It is a nice long festival, has a good mix of music, is actually pretty well run as far as festivals go (believe me, I've been to much worse), and you already know some of the coolest cats there (us).
I'm not sure how much airfare would be, that's one of the things you can't really control. I think there are cheapish shuttles from the airport to 'roo, that shouldn't be a problem. Serviceable camping gear should not be too expensive, there is probably a thread (anyone?) around suggesting a econo setup, if not, I can suggest some things. If you come in Thurs morn solo, you shouldn't have a problem finding a patch of grass to set up in tent only, it fills up quickly, but that's really only a problem if you want to set up an EZ-up or similar. We can always squeeze in one more tent. Do it, join the usual gang of idiots in tent only (us), you won't regret it.
I think it's totally worth it! This will be my seventh annual trip to The Farm and some years have been more financially difficult than others, but the joy of bein' there is always worth it to me!

When I went in 2005 it totally put a strain on my finances for months afterward. Looking back on it, I couldn't afford it and had no business going. All that being said, if I could get in DeLorian and do it again, I would.
Unless it will literally f#ck your life up...go. You have three months to cut back on the spending and try and make some extra cash.
My biggest suggestion is just go as cheap as you can and don't get caught up in all the purchasing before hand. Just go with what you absolutely need and rough it this time around.
If you can afford it or have the opportunity to put it on credit, do it. You can get a lift from the airport Wednesday night if you plan ahead i bet. And someone will save you a spot in tent only for a small set up. You let these guys know you're coming and they will build a tent circle around your spot I bet.
Just go as small as you possibly can and bonnaroo will take care of you. You tell people you are a student who flew in from Vancouver on credit and you can get anything you want. People at bonnaroo love that sh!t and cannot wait to help you out. You will not starve or go thirsty that is for sure.
Personal story: I went to the New Orleans jazz and heritage festival in 05 for the weekend from deep south texas and saw DMB, galactic, bb king, Mickey hart and hydra, toots and the maytals, Elvis Costello, herbie Hancock, widespread panic, franti and spearhead, Isaac Hayes. And so on. I had money for the tickets, drinking and gas but The thing is I didn't have enough money for a hotel. Cool people took care of me. I had a place to stay. I also saw DMB in Phoenix, driving from El Paso tx across a border patrol checkpoint making sure no one brought any fun stuff across. People in Phoenix took care of me and let me have some fun. You will experience the same at bonnaroo.
Living in Vancouver I bet you already own a small tent and camping set up, which should cut back on the expense of going. This is going to be an absolutely amazing bonnaroo. And you being there will make it even more amazing!
I have been twice 04 and 09 both were truly awesome independent experiences and I can ohonestly say this is the most excited I have ever been for a bonnaroo. Paul McCartney you have got to be kidding me.
You may eventually forgive yourself for not going. You will never regret going. I cannot possible cost more than two thousand dollars. I bet you could get there for under 1500 all in definitely under 2000. That's what two years at a hundred a month. That's not so bad now it it.

Honestly, if you're here asking a room full of inforooers, I think we both know what the answer is going to be . If you go to Roo this year, and are worried about money on Sunday or Monday, you can kick me in the balls. Bonnaroo was a great reminder of what's important in this life and what isn't. Now, I try to live every day of my life like a Bonnaroovian.

I'm living on a very tight budget right now because I am supporting my kids on my own while my ex-wife is in school. But, I still went last year even though it was a poor financial decision and I am still going this year even though it is a poor financial decision. It is four days where I can forget about everything I have going on and just have fun like I am a kid again. It's absolutely, positively worth it.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

I'm going to my tenth Roo this year. Met my girlfriend there in 2005. Saw a ton of great bands. My only real regret is not going in 2002 & 2003, though 2003 wasn't really my fault. (Except for the ones mentioned in the Bonnaroo Regrets thread.)
Last year was my first Roo, I flew in from Calgary. The flights were expensive, plus they got cancelled and I got re-routed all over the place. It's also kind of a pain to pack camping gear into one suitcase (and coordinate who is bringing what with friends flying in from Toronto). I can tell you it was 100% worth it and I want to go every single year now! If you plan well and organize, plus book your flights more in advance than we did, you can stick to a budget.
