Other note: is Knoxville the closest movie theater to Oneida? Man, Scott Co sucks. Are you a Riviera or Pinnacle person?
LOL! It's not the closest but it is my preferred. We have a cinema 3 in town O__O lol I would say I'm a Pinnacle person but if you get there on the wrong night, it's the young YOUNG crowd that I try to avoid. I've never seen pre-teens hanging around Riviera soooo I'mma go with Riviera. That way I can walk down the street & grab one of those amazing crepes lol

Word. I like Pinnacle for the ease of access though. There is cooler stuff around the Riviera though. The sushi place, Nama, right next to the theater is legit if you like sushi.

I'd have to agree about Pinnacle but that parking lot never seems to not be full but I guess its better than that parking garage behind Riviera lol. Ah, I've always been meaning to grab some late night sushi from Nama! I'll definitely have to pop in there after a movie one night
In my opinion, Evil Dead without Bruce Campbell is like Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford.
Also, the DIY aspects of the originals really added to the films' charm. The new one appears to have some scares but I don't know that it's going to be much fun.
I don't know if I have the heart to watch this.
Fun Fact:
I used to have this poster over my bed for years... until my girlfriend moved in at least!
i've read some pretty good reviews on it online. plus sam raimi is a producer so how could it go wrong?haha
That's my thinking as well Re:Raimi. He can still put together something that scares me unlike other modern classic horror figures who I will not name like Wes Craven or John Carpenter.
i want to go this weekend. i about died at work today when i overheard two people talking about it. one had never seen the originals and the other said he saw the first one the other day because it was on netflix. both thought this would be a good movie, but the fact they are just now getting introduced to this was surprising to me.
Can't wait to see this! Been a fan of the originals fer over half my life. Was nervous to hear about the new one at first, but I've read many positive thoughts on it includin' some from Ash himself. Wish I could catch it with my old buddies, but no doubt they're gonna see it with their respective women.

Definetly seeing it this weekend. I have been waiting months to see this and the previews look bad ass. Having been a fan of the originals I surely hope it lives up to all the hype. I read a month or so ago that Raimi plans on making a fourth installment to his originals as well. Army of Darkness 2 was what I believe was hinted at.

The originals were great, I want to see it but here is my issue, as you all know, we've all seen the new remakes of old classic horror movies, usually the new one falls way below expectations, another thing I have noticed in SEVERAL of the newer horror movies, the trailer contains all of the scares and the rest of the movie is just stupid and mundane. Ran into that problem with, Grave encounters 1&2, The Rite, The Last Exorcism, Red Riding Hood, Chernobyl Diaries. they all have that "boo" factor but not a "fear" factor, none the less I do want to see it, however without Bruce Campbell its not going to be the same, just like previously stated.
Tonight I'll go home and rewatch 1 & 2. Maybe Army of Darkness. Tomorrow I'll go see Evil Dead in the theater. I wish I could make a midnight showing, but that's just not happening.
After watching it last night, I guess I should have realized sooner that it would be more gory than scary. It is a horror movie, after all. lol I got one or two little jumps throughout the film but wasn't scared as much as startled for about .5 seconds. But the movie was good, nonetheless! You know those moments when you go "NO! What the quack are you doing?! Don't be stupid!"...those moments that horror movies are famous for lol A lot of those.
nothing too big... There was a man speaking as the final credits rolled, but I can not remember what he said. The very last shot is the side profile of Bruce Campbell. He says, "Groovy" and then it ends. Not anything super fancy, but definitely a little treat.
I am so hesitant of this one... I LOVED Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. Never really cared for Army of Darkness, though.... too far removed from what makes me a fan of the Evil Dead franchise.
I will end up seeing this one, but it's definitely not anywhere near top priority. I end up seeing almost every remake if I have seen the original, and this one (as a standalone film) looks like it won't be so terrible as much as it won't live up to the name and quality of the original. Most other remade horror/thrillers of recent years can afford to not be as good, because most source material (frankly) sucked. Evil Dead, however, did not and was in no need of a remake/revamping/re-visioning.
You should definitely go see it. It is just enough like the original to really make you nostalgic about the idea. But the best part is that it is definitely different enough to feel like it is its own movie. I would say that it is much darker than the original, but if you take out the funny, over-the-top gore and action, the original Evil Dead is pretty dark. I mean, everyone but Ash dies brutally in the original. The remake is more serious in its horror. There were a few great scares, but it really just makes you really satisfied as a horror genre fan. If you enjoyed Cabin in the Woods, and you enjoy the original Evil Deads, you should love this movie.
It also has amazing cinematography. We saw it at the most ballingest theater called the Landmark Inwood Theater where you lay in couches and the screen is full HD (we are in Dallas for a Grizzly Bear concert tonight). Beautiful visuals and scenery throughout. Storyline is typical for horror. A few of the actors/actresses are actually really good, too.
I was definitely surprised at how much I enjoyed this. I basically watched the evil dead series every week for a couple of years in college and I read a couple of books about it.
Though there are elements and particularly directorial choices that I think deviate from the style and intent of the original it seemed to stay pretty in line with the first. Maybe all the terrible horror movies out there have set the bar incredibly low but it was much better than almost anything I've seen the last couple of years. I might go see it again and will definitely add it to the DVD collection.
The dog was probably my favorite character though.
