My friend and I procrastinated on renting a GA tent and now they are gone. We are flying in and are now debating upgrading to VIP to rent VIP tent. Or we could rent a car and buy a tent and do GA camping. Some context on that: we've never been camping. We have zero amount of camping equipment.
Its outside my budget for sure to upgrade but when all is said and done, maybe it's worth it?
I'm not to sure on the cost of the VIP upgrade, but I know for the cost of renting a tent (~700) you could easily buy the essentials (tent, ez up, flashlights, etc.) plus a few of the non essendials (chairs, cot, etc.). I guess its up to how much money your willing to spend and how much research your willing to put into it. I know theres no way in hell I would pay for it, but then again I camp/backpack all the time. If your worried about being able to set up i'm sure your neighbors will help you out.

Since you're flying in and probably won't be able to haul a tent, I'd see if there was someone on the forum whose address you could use & purchase a tent online and meet up with them. The tents that they rent out at Bonnaroo are ridiculously expensive & like Bogart said, you could be using all that money for other essentials.
Thanks....yeah there are things to consider with hauling stuff. And even if we buy the essentials we won't want to haul them back with us. Or maybe we will, I dunno. It's hard to wrap my mind around either way.

You may want to look into renting gear from this place.....http://www.lowergear.com/
Here is a portion of their shipping policy...."We ship to your home; your motel along the way; or anywhere at or near your destination, such as any one of thousands of UPS locations. If you're flying in from overseas or cross country, we can ship gear to near your arrival airport for pickup there. We include a return label in the box; just drop our box off at any UPS counter when you are done. You do not have to drop off the gear in the same city as the pickup location."
This would be a very easy and hassle free way of having gear for 'Roo.

I think the VIP tent rental is an extra $1,500 over your VIP ticket purchase. Those tents look nice but that is crazy expensive. For that price you may even look into a small RV to pickup. Looks like your going to have to do some number crunching and factor in the logistics to find out your best option.
When do you arrive? You might make tent only. Ask around here, someone may have an extra tent you coul borrow even. I your super nice they might even set it up in tent only and save you a spot. I cannot guarantee it though. I am not doing tent only and don't have a extra tent so I can't help in this way.
I cannot imagine spending the extra on VIP and tent if it wasn't in my budget.
Also see if the post office in Manchester will allow what's called general delivery. That way you could order your stuff and it would be waiting for you when you get in. All depends on how much space they have.
