First time on the farm for me and mine this year. Looking forward to an awesome festival with all of you fine folks!
This seems like a no-brainer, but just to clarify, my group is planning on bringing up a panel van with 5-7 ppl. I understand that you are only guaranteed a 10' x 10' spot, but surely that is per ticket-holder, and not per vehicle right?
Also hoping to join in Inforoo brunch if the location gets cleared up, sounds like a blast.
Yes, it will effect you. One car, one camping lot.
That's why you gotta stake your land ASAP when you park. Also, try and park as far away from your neighbouring car as possible, order to gain more space. (without the volunteers forcing you to park closer).
Ever seen Far and Away? It's like then when it comes to claiming land.
They don't sit there and measure you out a chunk of space for camping, just get you parked in a set amount of space. Have folks get out and start setting up, space will happen as I have never seen anyone not able to get their tent setup and I have seen car loads park and camp right by me. It will all be fine

Welcome to the Bonnaroo Paradox. They talk about being green and how awesome carpooling is, but you get the same amount of space if there is 1 or 10 people in your car. Talk to your neighbors about it when you get out, but don't be a d*ck about it because your neighbors could be the ones who warn off a sketchy person at your camp while you are gone or let you borrow that thing you forgot at home.
Ugh, gotcha. Thanks for the replies. This will likely change our travel arrangements then. We don't camp completely over-the-top, but three couples, each with their own 4 person tent kinda makes those sort of size restrictions prohibitive to our plans.

Does seem rather hypocritical, but I guess no good deed goes un-punished.

My best advice would be to talk to your neighbors and be friendly with them.

They were insanely strict where we camped last year. They painted the ground in 10x10 blocks so the car spot and camping area was pre-measured for the volunteers. Everyone around us ignored it and went Far and Away style (like we had done in years past). However, volunteers came back through with officials on horses and they made everyone move everything into their designated squares. They literally forced rows and rows of people to readjust their site and went back round to check. It was insanity.

Yea like onion said they were making volunteers repark whole rows at a time because people were taking to much space. Theres really no need for a 4 person tent per couple. The last place ya want to be at Roo/In the Manchester sun is in your tent anyways. I feel those tents will just cramp your 10 x 10 spot when you could have an awesome tarp setup for shade.

Yea...they did the same thing to us. I thought it was because we were so close last year and in years past we have been further back. During the night tho...people moved all around the place. We even woke up to find 2 cars moved next to us. We were at the end of a row...so some people that were at the back moved up and parked at the end of the row we were on.
Dang, man...Roo's getting close, ain't it? We've had the "how much beer can I bring?" thread, the "how much space can I have?" thread...I think I saw a couple of variations of the "when should I arrive?" thread...(rubs palms together in glee)...Big Fun, Soon Come...

I suggest sleeping under canopy's rather than in tents. I know its nice to have some privacy...but it gets so hot that you can't even sleep in ur tent. We park our vehicle and then put 2 canopy's coming off the back one behind the other. We just put cots under the truck, then pull them out at night and sleep on them. That way you have a nice size area to hang out in and then a cool spot to sleep.
One thing we've noticed, the sooner you arrive, the closer they cram you, as they are worried about space. By Friday, cars are parking a mile from one another. Only downside, long walk.

I understand their concern about space, but I'm disappointed to hear how strict it is. We were originally coming from NJ as six people in a large vehicle, but an enforced 10' x 10' isn't going to cut for six people and an ez up. It looks like we'll be needing to take two cars just to guarantee space.
Yes and no. Most of it depends on how you handle the situation. We were in early last year, 4ish on Wednesday I'd say. Five people in a truck. It was land grab stage still when we got down into BFE. We roll through the field, park the truck and realize we are in a corner spot, with literally the room the truck sits on and that's it. Since we are early there are plenty of shouting volunteers doing their best impression of Snap singing "i've got the power". I explain my situation, get ignored. I then very calmly, and politely find one of the people on horseback. I explain, we car pooled, we just got stuck in a bad spot, and literally, don't have enough room to set up tents.
We were told to quickly, and quietly move our truck back one row and "don't take up an acre". We ended up with room, cool neighbors, and never got over stressed.
You'll be fine. Pack to where you tents are on the top, stake your land claim, if you get stuck, realize there are 50,000 people that want more room too, be polite, and you'll probably get what you need.
Three four person tents seems excessive. But hey gotta do what you gotta do. I think you've got two options: 1) go with your current plans and grab as much land as you can immediately after bein' parked while bein' very nice to your neighbors, or 2) use two cars.
I agree with all. In 07, it was like we owned a small parcel on the farm (well almost), last year in access, we were maybe 8" over and we had to compress our stuff. It just gets more crowded .... cr****
Hi, what if we have a 13x10 tent with four people in it?
It will fit...
My last Roo, I went in a group of 4. We had 3 two person tents and a 9' x 9' pop up canopy. We set the tents so they opened into the canopy. We took up a lot of space. BUT, we shared with our neighbors, were chill with everyone, and didn't have a single problem. The year before that, just one 2 man tent and the canopy. Still took up more than a 10' x 10' space... I've never really had a problem with enough space. If for some reason people are caring about space this year, best advice- push your car as far forward as you can, and butt the tent up to the back. I doubt it will be that bad though. Either way, best of luck, and see you on the farm!
Also- this year I'm bringing a 9' x 9' canopy, along with a 10' x 13' pop up canopy (no tent, at night we'll hang tapestries and tarps for privacy and sleep on hammocks). I will attempt to use them both over my campsite... if I get hassled, I'm just going to use the 10' x 13' over my car to keep it cooler (and therefore make the general area a little cooler? worth a shot i guess).
I agree with the post about getting there earlier means they're more strict on space. Last year, my group (4 people, 2 cars, 2 tents and a canopy) drove in together on Wednesday evening when the gates opened but when parking the volunteers wouldn't let us park together even after we told them we were together. Luckily, our neighbors were great. They were a group of 4 cars and were also separated by the volunteers so we all moved around and got our groups back together. Space was still pretty tight but we made it work.
We have a bigger group this year and most of us are coming from different areas so it looks like we'll have 3 or 4 cars. Should have enough space this time
