So first time Roo-goer here -- stoked out of my MIND for this June, but that goes without saying (; -- and I haven't seen anything on the boards about campfires/bonfires on the camp sites? Are they allowed, do a lot of people have fires going on their camp sites usually, any recommendations regarding campfires at Roo...?

Not 100% but I don't think fires are allowed at all....it's super dry in TN so the less things to start fires the better....last year they were super strict with the fire lanes in parking too.....

No fires at Roo. Just thinking about it makes me miss Spirit of Suwanee more. The campfire breakfasts, guitar pull, and s'mores were a great time. It did make it tough to want to leave camp however.
This is not like camping at your local state park. You will be camped close together with other people and cars. Also with all that is going on there is not much time to be hanging around camp except for the morning hours. Afternoons and evenings are better spent in centeroo. My opinion.
You really really really really really really don't want to build a campfire at Roo. Against the rules, fire hazard from open flames in the middle of all those tents, clouds of smoke, the trouble of hauling in the firewood, the fact that temps could very well reach the upper 90s during the day...it's just not a good idea.
Edit: oh, and never mind that you actually have to sit there and TEND the beast, or either extinguish it thoroughly (with an arse-load of water) every time you want to leave the camp...

I couldn't think of a worse idea than having fires at Roo.
Between large out of control flames, and drunks passing out with the fire still going, there would be disastrous results.
Even if they were controlled fires, a simple spark can burn a hole in a neighboring tent, and that is on the minor end of bad things that could happen.
Not to bash the OP, but I am kind of surprised someone would even ask about this.

Exactly. It's a good question, but I think it comes up a lot because people coming for the first time often under-estimate how tightly-packed GA camping can be. For anyone who's in that boat, here's what it can look like:

Glad you're finally making it out to roo. Once you get there you will understand why there are no fires allowed. It only makes sense. prolonged open flames are bad news with all of those tents and EZ ups and tapestries. One could burn down a big chuck of GA real quick if a fire got out of hand even for a minute. Believe me it's for the best. Ther are just too many people packed too close together. Campfires work for smaler festivals where the people are much more spread out.
I am betting they are going to come down hard on the sky lanterns this year too....
they look awesome but are an obvious fire hazard
Yea saw someone get drilled in back of head with one at RHCP. Thing exploded pretty much when it hit them. I know this will happen to me one day I never look behind me.

I saw that happen too, not sure which show, but it was last year.

Okay okay okay I see I see haha. Obviously those things had occurred to me but I still figured it was worth asking because I've been exploring through a multitude of lists, blogs, and pinterest boards people have been making for bonnaroo preparations and the amount of campfire stuff included in those is mindblowing. After I saw about the dozenth campfire starter tip or recipe, I thought I'd just go ahead and put the question out there haha. Thanks for the input!

It was at the What Stage, I saw it come down from a little near half way back. Kinda scary as it was coming from behind the people and i dont really think they saw it coming.

You are going to have an incredible life-changing time at Bonnaroo. You won't even have the chance to think about a campfire... I can't wait to continue this discussion after you experience it.

It happened at Phish too right in front of me. It's happened many times over the years.

There are a few times I says to myself "Self, how nice would it be to have a fire to stare into for a few hours right about now?". But I can dig why they arent allowed. Maybe they should have one attended to by staff/volunteers at each Pod...
