3 friends and I are trying to get to the farm in the early afternoon Wednesday to get in line to get in. We are planning on camping, is this a bad idea? I went 2 years ago and got into the grounds around midnight on wednesday night and ended up about a 30 minute walk away from centeroo. Would hauling all of our stuff to tent only camping be a better idea?
I always enter on Wednesday and I haven't been upset about the location of my campsite! While I've never camped in TO, I really like camping by my car, being able to lock things in and not worry about them. The furthest from centeroo I've ever been was maybe 30 minutes, but I guess I don't see that as a long walk, but last year we were right by shakedown st. You guys could always get a festicab to take your gear to TO if you hate your spot.
They haven't announced when TO will open this year. If it's at Midnight on Wednesday then yes, you will have a good chance of getting a spot. If it's at 9am on Thursday, then you will not have a good chance AND you will be stuck in BFE for sure (since they fill it before every other section so the road may be used by VIP on Thursday). There is no "line" to get in to TO, it's pretty much first-come, first-serve. They will keep people in their own pods until a point when they won't, then you can head to TO.
Don't be scared of BFE. Honestly, The walk is only slightly longer than the one from Chewbacca/Han Solo. And at BFE you get a ton of space. And it's a hell of a lot easier to find your car after a particularly long LN. Anyone wanna start the "BFE Ain't so bad" campaign with me?

I would think TO would open at 8pm on Wednesday when the gates open. On their website it says "The General Admission Campgrounds will OPEN at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2013. The VIP Campground will OPEN at 7:00 AM on Thursday, June 13, 2013."

Sign me up. I was in BFE last year and loved it. Yes it can be a minor inconvenience until the What Stage gate opens, but after that it was nice. I loved being close enough to stop back at my campsite a few times a day(I was 45+ mins away in Family Guy the year before). I would prefer to camp right outside the arch, but I will never complain about BFE
What about this quarantine I keep hearing about? Don't they sequester everyone in tent only to keep the work trucks moving Wednesday night before centeroo opens? We stayed in BFe in 09 and it wasn't that bad of a walk. I think we're doing access this year so we should be spare the BFE. Good luck to you whatever you decide,

Last year it did not. They had a "quarantine" where people were not allowed to leave for TO until otherwise notified. Some people snuck out of their pods to try to get there earlier, but if you were caught you were (supposedly) kicked out of Bonnaroo. Does that mean it will be the same this year? Who knows?!
BFE is da boooommmmbbb! I'm there every year and love it. Like others have said, whether to stay or try for TO is your own choice. For me, it's an easy one to stay.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I like Pod 10, but Pod 1 is swampy. It hadn't rained in days, but there was standing water everywhere when we went through. More shaded though.
I've only been in Pod 1, so I can't really compare it's swampiness... but my reasons:
-I can go in early Wednesday, set up and have that much more time on the farm which is priceless(Wednesday night is one my favorite parts of the weekend).
-I like knowing where I'll end up. It's nice to have some sort of control.
-I've always been at an end of a row or almost to the end and have the woods right there to pee in instead of trekking to the portos.
-More shade
-What Stage entrance tends to be quicker to get through
-It's right by the back entrance for quick exit.
-I've never really thought about it, but as mentioned in this thread, it's easy to find. There's really no such thing as not being able to find your camp when you're in Pod 1.

wolfmanjess, I know you did, you bastard. But he still heads the fan club with me with a passion and a spring to his step!
Just come in with us and I will let you use the cart to get all your stuff up there.
I appreciate it, but I really have no urge. I camp with upwards of 20 people, I like having my car right there and I like having my space. TO has never tempted me.

i don't mind being out towards the back. it's quieter and not as much of your stuff is covered in dust. the long walk at the end of the night is the worst part.
So, using this handy tool, www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm, It looks like BFE is just over a mile from the main entrance walking around and about a half mile from the What Stage entrance, and that's if your at the very end. The average person walks 3-4 miles per hour so even a full mile should only take like 15 minutes. Why does everyone say it takes half an hour? Some one who has been before try it out, see if you get the same numbers.

You can not walk the same speed through a crowd of drunks as you can on a open road.

So assuming I would actually want to be in BFE, what time is the earliest you can go in and through which tollbooth? West tollbooth, I presume? I got a decent site in Pod 2 the last two years, but BFE sounds better than rolling the dice and getting Pod 10 or 11 again, which would really bring me down. And yeah, Wednesday evening is a great time to chill, imbibe some adult beverages, and let the excitement build.

You can not walk the same speed when you are a drunk in a crowd. AH HA! see what i did there?
Last year, we showed up at about 11:30pm on Wednesday. Our car broke down in Missouri and it made our trip a few hours longer. But except for the money, the breakdown may have been a slight stroke of luck in that we were not put in BFE. We brought a lawn cart and planned on camping in tent only anyway. We never heard a thing about the quarantine until the next morning when all the BFE-ers starting piling in. I think we'll try to shoot for 10:30 or 11 or so this year too in hopes of avoiding the quarantine.

Honestly, I don't know the names of the tollbooths. We take the one off of Bushy Branch. When they officially didn't open until Thursday, we always got in at 6 on Wednesday night. This past year with the official Wednesday start time, I believe we got in around 2:00. They just keep turning people away until.. well, they don't. They start to allow people to line up and start letting us in soon after.
What Stage entrance is open when What Stage is active (aka not on Thursday, late night and the mornings). From BFE it is certainly quicker, but keep in mind that if you are entering during a headliner or the like, but are looking to go elsewhere in Centeroo, I would recommend walking around to the arch.
dudeitsjordon- I've never come in on Thursday, but I would say it's highly doubtful.
