Biography:
In 2004, fresh off the acrimonious break up of hardcore punk band Million Dead , for which Frank Turner was the frontman, Frank launched a DIY solo career that steered him down a very different and far more fruitful path. Once voted hardest working act by NME magazine, his dedication to his craft has brought him from asking one of the few attendees of his gigs if he could crash on their floor for the night to headlining Wembley Arena in England just last year. His rise was not a meteoric one, but instead set a steady pace starting with his breakthrough LP, Love Ire and Song. Apart from touring his home country of England and much of Western Europe, Frank has also been tirelessly touring the US and has garnered a very enthusiastic cult following there. His latest release, Tape Deck Heart, was the 13th most purchased album on itunes in the US on the day of its release.
Stylistically speaking, Frank's solo music (and his subsequent music billed with the Sleeping Souls) is a marked departure from the obscure Polish philosopher name dropping, politically aware, hardcore music he was making with Million Dead. Despite this, Frank has certainly kept an undercurrent of his punk rock roots throughout the folk/rock-ish music that he has since released. Throughout his early releases (Sleep Is For the Week, Love Ire and Song, Poetry of the Deed) it is clear that Frank is struggling to find a balance between his acoustically driven solo music and the full band sound for which he was searching. Frank has since settled into a perfect balance between the two with his latest two releases, England Keep My Bones and Tape Deck Heart. Whatever album of Frank's one listen's to, however, one will always find unabashed honesty and unquenchable passion.

Live Show: Basically speaking, Frank comes out and kicks your ass. His shows are high energy and full of passion. It is not possible to simply stand there and take it in. You will find yourself moving around and screaming all the words that you know. Bonnaroo 2013 will be Frank's 1,395th show by his count (no, really). The man knows what he's doing. I saw him at Bonnaroo 2010 and thought he won the weekend.

Personal Notes: This is my favorite artist of all time. I bought my tickets to Bonnaroo knowing that I would miss anyone else just to see Frank Turner. When I came to Bonnaroo in 2010, I was familiar with him and liked his music but hadn't really gotten all the way into it. After seeing his show that night, I was completely sold. If you even kind of like his music, come see his set. He will blow you away. Promise.

Thanks for this post. I discovered Frank after the schedule came out and doing my scheduling and exploring. Can't believe he's not bigger, and can't wait to see him. I absolutely love tape deck heart.
Frank Turner is without question my favorite artist I discovered when researching the bonnaroo lineup. I immediately got 2 of his albums. He has a song for every situation and anything I'm feeling. Even better, despite having heavy content, they are upbeat and help me associate a level of happiness and energy to a situation. He is a can't miss for me!

Though Frank is a top 3 artist for me, I do have tickets for a show of his in August, and I absolutely love TTMoE as well. I'm really banking on a Sonic Set from him.
That conflict, not to mention Gov't Mule thrown in there, is my worst of the festival.
After seeing the lineup I told the people I'm going with that the only conceivable conflict I could have that would kill me to choose between was Frank and Tallest Man. Obviously, it had to happen. But I would leave Bonnaroo with the missed Frank Turner set in the back of my mind. It would ultimately bother me too much to skip it. Plus, I want to see Two Gallants anyway so it lines up well.
I've missed several opportunities to see Frank before and will not fuck it up this time. This time I'll fuck up and miss TTMoE, whom in the future I will see to miss someone else...and on and on and on... Really looking forward to this set

I left his show not even knowing what happened to me. It was the first time I ever experienced something and was left in awe. Absolutely incredible. If you ever have the chance to see him, you need to do it. Completely blown away. Best of the week for me! Definitely a life changing Bonnaroo moment

His show at Bonnaroo was amazing- I had fleeting thoughts of ditching Sunday at Bonnaroo to catch his Nashville show. If anyone who missed him is interested, or even those who saw him and want to see him again, he just released dates for a US/Canada tour here
Didn't notice him much on the lineup (or perhaps I listened to him and skipped over him?). He doesn't seem like I'd like him as I generally don't like anything with really loud vocals, but a bunch of us caught Frank Turner while waiting on the rail for Jim James at NFF.. It was amazing. I'd support a return.

And that I'll be at Mountain Jam that weekend so I haven't paid too much attention to Govs Ball.
Yeah the lineup looks pretty awesome already and it's missing a headliner. I'm still not sure about Gov Ball, last year sucked with the rain, but I hope I don't get the same bad luck again.
