I know there are plenty of videos circulating Bonnaroo365 but I have yet to see a legitimate documentary that follows people in the transition from everyday life to the world of Roo and back again. We see celebrity interviews and performances on video often but the attendees are a huge part of what makes Bonnaroo so successful and I have been interested in filming such a project. I'd want to follow the life of the first timer, the veteran, the person who works at a job where no one would expect them to use vacation time for Roo, the couple who fell in love at Roo and just everyone in between. The earliest this could happen for my team would be next year considering the equipment and logistics but I wanted to get your opinions on it.
Is it a good idea? bad idea? something you would watch?

That really sounds awesome. I met a couple last year that fell in love at Bonnaroo. They've been going together for years while maintianing a long-distance relationship. We exchanged numbers and everything so I could help you out there. I'd be willing to help in any other way I can, just shoot me a pm if you're interested.

That'd be awesome! Like I said, it probably wouldn't happen until next year as far as filming but I could definitely use this year to meet with the people that want to be in it. I'll talk to my team about this idea and see about getting funding and the ball rolling and I'll keep you updated when we get some kind of development

^I know they did something similar in that video. Its really really good, but idk if theres any more to it than this short youtube video....so your idea would be really cool to get some full length shiz.

You should also include someone working the festival. Either a vendor or maybe a security person. Though this may be more difficult to do than attendees.
Remember that guy that tried getting people to volunteer to film a documentary that bonnaroo had no idea about and then got mad when people started questioning him and his methods. That was fun
I think that's a great idea. Maybe you could even talk to the Bonnaroo powers that be about it. Imagine the publicity they could get from it. It would be in there best interests. Wasn't there a post about somebody wanting to to propose to their girlfriend at Bonnaroo this year? Would be a great thing to film!

This is totally something I'd watch and even might be interested in writing for if it comes together.
Every year I go on a photo safari on Sunday afternoon where I walk around stopping people who interest me and asking them if I can take their picture. (Sometimes I don't ask.) But I've had a hell of a lot of fun doing that, gotten to meet some wonderful people--as well a few who weren't--and I always smile when I look back through the photos.
This is probably my favorite scene. I think these two were saying goodbye after meeting and spending the weekend together. Ships Passing On The Farm, and all that. Anyway, this is the kind of little moment that makes Bonnaroo priceless, so I hope you capture a million of 'em.
Edit: it wasn't that he was short; she was really tall, and that's what set me to watching them in the first place. I like tall girls...they so often stoop so they'll look shorter, which I think is touching.

I'd love to see this! I was thinking about a Bonnaroo movie the other day and wondering why there wasn't one. I mean, there's an Electric Daisy Carnival documentary and who cares about EDC!? Bonnaroo is way better. This needs to get made and I wish you all the best luck.

This would be awesome. I'd be very excited to see something like this as it would be way more extensive then some of the short vids people put together each year. Damn good idea
Well, both of the 2004 Bonnaroo videos (Live from Bonnaroo 2004 and We Have Arrived) explore the festival in more of a documentary fashion. After that, though, they went for a straight up performance DVD.
I'm always game for more Bonnaroo, though, and would love to help in any way you need.
I love this idea! Sure I love the official 'Roo videos, but I feel at least half of the awesomeness is the experience itself and would like to more videos of that!

Good call! Kickstarter is perfect for this kind of thing! I'm sure you would be able to raise money pretty easily for this!
The Kickstarter idea is great! It would definitely help us get the equipment we need in order to film. Now it's about breaking down the necessities and cost of everything in order to get an accurate number.
I'm so excited that all of you are behind this idea! Do you all think that the documentary should focus on the festival in general and the crowd at large discovering interesting people and stories along the way or would you prefer to see the journey of a select number of people from beginning to end?
That question will help us determine how many cameras are needed and if we need to scout for specific people.
I like the latter idea. See the different perspectives of different people. Maybe like someone who has never been to a fest, some one older and someone who has been to a ton of different ones. or something like that.
I like the idea of following a few people/groups beginning to end best but as they come into contact with different people on the farm you could do short 1-2 minute sessions with those people asking them all the same 3 questions or whatever. The same questions you ask the main people being followed at the end of the film. Something along those lines. Why do you come here, what does the farm mean to you ect ect.
The one thing you have to kinda watch out for is the legal side of all of this. The group I worked with last year (long story short, one guy ran off with some serious cash) had a lot of hurdles when it came to the Bonnaroo name and it's likeness.
