Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Love the idea. With the explosion in the number of festivals and their popularity you may have a bigger audience than in the past. What are your thoughts about length? Let us know if you get a kickstarter up.
Interesting idea. No one in my office knows I go to roo. I work with a ton of older people (I'm the youngest by 8 years; most people are 20 years older than me) and they do "testing" if you look like you need it (absurd). So because of the reputation of our beautiful festival, I don't say anything.
Good call! Kickstarter is perfect for this kind of thing! I'm sure you would be able to raise money pretty easily for this!
The Kickstarter idea is great! It would definitely help us get the equipment we need in order to film. Now it's about breaking down the necessities and cost of everything in order to get an accurate number.
I'm so excited that all of you are behind this idea! Do you all think that the documentary should focus on the festival in general and the crowd at large discovering interesting people and stories along the way or would you prefer to see the journey of a select number of people from beginning to end?
That question will help us determine how many cameras are needed and if we need to scout for specific people.
I think you look at it from a cultural perspective. This is what it is, this is how it began and what goes on there, and as a result, this is the experience it is giving people. You could interview other people and get there perspective on it in the beginning, during, and at the end of Bonnaroo. There is plenty of things you could do. You have this whole forum of Bonnaroo fans to get a good idea of what people would like to see!
Someone also mentioned the legal aspect of it and I think it would be wise to take that into account. My suggestion would be to contact the people at Bonnaroo directly about it. If you run this off kickstarter, they would have no cost. It is essentially free advertising for them. Maybe they would even help you out. You could sell it and work out a profit deal with them or maybe just get it on NetFlix to spread the word about Bonnaroo to people. It seems like it would be in there best interests!

5/1/15-Penn State Movin' On Music Festival-New Politics, Passion Pit, Big Gigantic, Big Sean
6/11/15-6/14/15-Bonnaroo!
6/21/15 - Paul McCartney
6/27/15-Halsey, Imagine Dragons
I think this is an amazing idea and a great opportunity to explore the social, cultural and economic impact of Bonnaroo. If you wanted to really dig in you would need the cooperation of AC & Superfly and everyone else involved in the overall management and vision of Bonnaroo. And you'd want that cooperation so that you can get the real history and entrepreneurs perspective.
I think it would be cool to break it up into chapters and look at specific people for each. Not necessarily in this order but... What Bonnaroo means to the public now (interview first timers, vets, staff, etc) Who goes to Bonnaroo (interview the lovers, the first timer, the vets, the 9-5 people, the grandparents, etc) Where it started (staff, people that were at or involved in the first Bonnaroo) Moments and Details That Make Bonnaroo (talk about acts, art, fans and the hallmarks like fountain and TO camping)
I think if you have the Bonnaroo book it could sort of be translated into a working outline for the film and of course these message boards are great for research. Good luck and I'd love to help in any way you need.

Alright, so I wasn't exactly sure who to get in touch with or how but I went to AC's website and emailed info@acentertaiment.com
One thing that I'd really like to capture is the process of creating the lineup. I don't know how it is in real life but I imagine all the people sitting around a large round table and throwing names out like an auction lmao
A friend and I have talked about this pretty much every year we went. Lots of work... someone with dedication needs to do it, something that I would lack at a music festival.

That is EXACTLY how I imagine it too lol
This year Ashley Capps said that McCartney has been in the works for about five years now so I imagine they start with the acts that they had in mind for previous years and try to work that out early.
EDIT: info@acentertainment.com is probably a good starting place. You could always ask them to direct you to the appropriate channels in your email.
The golf cart taxi drivers see it all. I'd love to drive one of those. Just for a few hours though.
Even though GoPros are overused at this point, one of those golf carts is a prime spot for a GoPro on a stick. Just pop it on and have them drive around aalllll day. Would be fascinating to watch the time lapse of that.

I might do my own personal documentary Cloverfield or Blair Witch style. Documenting my 3rd time and my friend's first time to Bonnaroo. Does anyone know if security has a problem with DSLRs? It would help the mini-doc if I could bring it in, and it only has the basic lens. I guess just updating to an iPhone 5 or Galaxy 4 would be easier though since they both shoot in HD.

I find it hit or miss getting in with a DSLR. I got away with it sometimes, and sometimes I didn't. On the go pros. Yes they are getting a bit overused but part of it is: Look at who the people are that are posting here and going to youtube etc. They tend to be electronic literate to a degree so for "US", go pro's, tablets, etc. are everywhere. Make sense? Most of the people that I know don't know what a go pro or Bonnaroo is oh well ... cr****
I'm working with a friend on a Dogme95 documentary focusing on the Western cultures shift in spirituality being shot at Bonnaroo this year. We would love to meet up with anybody at roo looking to give input, any help, and or be apart of the documentary itself which hopefully will include as many wonderful people at roo as possible. The kickstarter with more information can be found here:
Welp...this is what they just sent me. Sucks but something tells me not to give up on this entirely.
I say film first, ask questions later. You could always put something together and then invite them to watch it after the fact and if they like what they see then perhaps they'd be willing to iron out legal details, marketing plans, etc. I'd love to be one of your filming subjects! Not sure what you're looking for but if I fit the bill then we can talk

I Like the way you think, Amber! Met up with me at the fest and we'll definitely talk about getting you in there

I work in TV production and would love to help out! I have the same legal concerns as others, most importantly you wouldn't be able to profit off it unless ac/superfly signed off on it and you wouldn't be able to use a bands music without their management/labels permission. I think you can definitely do a great YouTube history of bonnaroo video. Anything you need, let me know!

Basically you need to score some press passes to be able to shoot video at the festival. You wouldnt be shooting performances but if you wanted music you must ask the record labels. What I think would be awesome based on your documenting the festival idea from different perspectives; is have one cinematographer per type of roo goer. So basically someone following the newbie, someone following the veteran, someone following the dude that proposes to his girlfriend. You can get the traffic, the camping setup, the rv setup, the interactions, the d-word use, and then edit in post and offer it.
An example is Joss Whedon's Comic Con: A Fan's Hope.
This would seriously produce some water works if done right. So Please Do This!

My company is working on the press passes right now and so far we've gotten good news and spoke to a couple of the performers who have really liked the idea of shooting a doc whose premise is similar in respects to what you brought up; getting varied amounts of different festival goers intentions, hopes for, and adventure in Bonnaroo. The crux is focusing on getting someone really in there and up close to people. Which is great for the people working on my doc because we are a bunch of film studies and writers studying at FSU and usually end up meeting friendly people every where we travel for shooting or otherwise recreation and vibing.
Our focus is mostly on the lack of spirituality in this century and the juxtaposition of spiritual seeking with superficial attempts to find oneself merging to create an alter-spirituality that serve similar functions in our society as 'organized religion'. We also want to get a lot of emotion in there like the great joy that music and festivals bring people of all ages as well as the unifying forces underlying the psychology behind shared music experiences in an enclosed area.

I used to run a local music blog but dropped it. I did apply for press/photo passes but as I got closer to my son being born, I dropped the site. Did I screw myself from getting passes? Can I fix this?! As we get closer to Roo, I am starting to regret my decision.
