And then, of course, David Foster Wallace decided just to kill himself instead.
does it make these ideas any less valid? I guess it depends on how you look at it...
Wallace committed suicide by hanging himself on September 12, 2008. In an interview with The New York Times, Wallace's father reported that Wallace had suffered from depression for more than 20 years and that antidepressant medication had allowed him to be productive. When he experienced severe side effects from the medication, Wallace attempted to wean himself from his primary antidepressant, phenelzine. On his doctor's advice, Wallace stopped taking the medication in June 2007, and the depression returned. Wallace received other treatments, including electroconvulsive therapy. When he returned to phenelzine, he found it had lost its effectiveness. In the months before his death, his depression became severe.
the ideas he expressed bear out methods for fighting depression, which is something everyone must do sometimes. His speech gave inspiration to the person who made this video and it will to others who see it. It's sad he committed suicide but it wasn't as if he didn't put up a fight
When I saw that this video was over 9 minutes long, and not a musical performance, I was ready to tune out and find another page. Glad I watched all the way through... One heck of a message. Roo (and life) is all what you make of it... take a look back and remember your perspective... advice I should remember more often. Thanks for that.

The (capital T) Truth is a simple idea. Our minds want it to be complex, but its not. All the great mystics have the same message, they tap into the same vein of this Truth that has run throughout humanity since the dawn of consciousness. The truly gifted ones can communicate this to us in words.
And then, of course, David Foster Wallace decided just to kill himself instead.
It is ironic. There's a massive difference between clinical depression and just feeling sorry for yourself. I've had the misfortune of learning just how crippling and serious clinical depression is from intimate and horrific first hand experience with it's effects on a loved one. It's unfathomable to someone who does not suffer from it. And it can be very frustrating. It's easy when dealing with someone who suffers from depression to throw up your hands and say "WTF is wrong with this person? Why can't they just cheer up and stop being so gloomy and negative ALL the time?" And the reason is most likely that due to a chemical imbalance in their brain they are incapable of feeling happiness or comfort and security without prescription treatment. Suicide committed by someone who suffers from depression isn't the same cop-out that say someone who kills themselves because their spouse wants a divorce. Although both circumstances are extremely tragic.

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I love that post. I saw it on FB the other day- it's such an honest, insightful look at depression from the perspective of the person dealing with it. I have also seen how devastating it can be and while it may be hard to understand from the outside, it is truly debilitating.
