Every year I say "We need to remember this for next year" and next year rolls around and I'm yelling at my husband at 3 am because we forgot a shovel AGAIN.
What's on your list of must have supplies for a successful campsite? I've finally remembered to add shovel and mallet to my packing list....and it only took four years!
I'm taking a bucket with various tools, like a hammer to pull tent stakes out with, and a mallet. The bucket will come in handy I'm sure, to carry water in or to sit on.
Extra stakes and tent poles. Zip ties, bungees, clamps. Shower curtain rings.

I need to remember to buy some rope.
What is the shovel for?
The last two years, the dirt where our tent has gone has been somewhat hard, so it would have been extremely helpful and far less exhausting, if we had just had a hand shovel to dig a quick hole.

I'm planning on bringing my gig rug (drums slide all over the fucking place if you don't have a rug under 'em) and putting it under the EZup. Last year's camp setup had my EZup as a communal shade/chill area and our group pitched tents around it. Someone brought a rug and it was SOoo much nicer than sitting on the grass if all the chairs were occupied. I consider it a MUST now!

Yep, several years ago we picked up a roll of outdoor carpet they had at Lowes. Definitely much better than the itchy, pokey, grass. Threw it in the washing machine and it's good as new, though it made a mess of fuzzy crap all over. At first touch they feel a little scratchy, but at roo over that grass, it feels plenty fine. I take plenty of naps on that thing, with a cool pillow.
I am by no means a campsite expert, but I just bring a whole mess of tarps in various sizes and weights, whatever I have laying around in my garage. I think I have 2-3 medium weight tarps and 2 heavy weight ones. some have the silver side and some don't. I also bring sheets/tapestries for extra shade!

Get a "heavy duty" one that will resist the wind, humidity, sun etc. If you're building a monkey hut, you'll need a 60x40 so it can fold over the entrance: amzn.to/102MFZ4

I feel kinda silly for asking this but what's the point in bringing a hammer AND a mallet? Would using a hammer damage the stakes?
A hammer could damage the stakes if hit too hard, but mostly it's because I just like the mallet; it is easier for me. And since I'll be carrying a whole bucket-o-tools it's not like I'll have to make extra room for it or anything.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.
