Daft Punk. Prince. Neil Young & Crazy Horse.
With that out of the way, I'm curious to know who you all actually think is going to play the mystery sets.
A pretty good case was made over in the Björk thread that she will take the Solar Stage from 5:00 - 5:45, and my gut is telling me that the final act on Sonic will either be a member of the Superjam, like Larry Graham, a Roo favorite, like Portugal. the man, or both: Jim James.
(1) Damon Albarn (2) Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds (3) King Khan & His Shrines (4) Ty Segall (5) Ms Lauryn Hill (6) Darkside (7) Kanye (8) Janelle Monae (9) Goat (10) Meshuggah.
I feel like nothing could ever touch ?uest with Herbie Hancock and Pino Palladino, as well as ?uest with D'Angelo. Those are just perfect. The current lineup just seems second rate compared to those, with all due respect to all musicians, all of whom I am a fan of. I mean, like you said, short of bringing Prince out, there's not really anything that I could imagine would be a timeless moment like those were. Honestly I'd just wanna see Ziggy and Larry jam with some other funk god. I'll stop by after R. Kelly either way.

This isn't a Superjam thread, FYI. New slots on the schedule.
However, I can't really resist putting in my two cents regarding D'Angelo. What I caught of the set didn't grab me, and I don't think it was 'timeless.' Yes, they performed covers, which is unique, but ?uest and D'angelo are still working together, and I'm sure Kirk will play with them again as well. I fail to see how that is timeless compared to several musicians not known to collaborate doing just that.

I'd say it was pretty "timeless". It wasn't just that they played covers, it's what they played and how it sounded. The energy of the crowd was the best I saw all weekend. Plus, hearing the backstory how D'Angelo got talked into it and how they didn't have time to rehearse makes it that much more special. But it's cool if you didn't dig it, I've heard Radiohead's changed lives, but it didn't grab me personally.
As for the suprise sets, Jim James is obviously a possibility. I'd like to see Jeff Tweedy do a solo show. Also, it probably doesn't fit the time slot but someone from Wu Tang would be cool. Seems like a waste to have all those MCs for taking up a little over an hour of the weekend

Hall & Oates on the Sonic isn't happening. If Hall shows, and I seriously doubt he does, it'll be at the Superjam proper. No way they waste a name that big on just doing a tiny Sonic set. I think a Jim James/Carl Broemel set of acoustic MMJ songs on the Sonic might be possible.
Oates lives in Nashville, its easy for him to drive up to the farm for superjam and a show. Hall not so much. If both were gonna be there, they'd be billed.
My Morning Jacket could make sense for Friday night late night That Tent, right? They're touring this summer and Jim James is already performing on Friday and Saturday.
Alo's special guest will play a role in one of those slots.
I am really betting that ALO's special guest is Nicki Bluhm, who is playing earlier on thursday with the gramblers. She is also in a country band with her husband and...ALO. And she already has a sonic stage show on Friday. So I don't think she will play a role in either of those slots.
