I was thinking of picking up some energy drinks for Roo. I normally don't drink them, actually the only time I've had Red Bull it had vodka in it So when I went to the grocery store I realized that there are MILLIONS of energy drinks! What has everybody tried? Anyone had Red Bull Zero or Red Bull Red or White or Blue? What about the Starbucks ones? What would be the best one to take if any?
Whatever you do don't buy those caffeine/guarana/taurine/yerba mate/yohimbe/methamphetamine drinks in the little red shot-bottles that you see cluttering the counters at gas stations. I downed a couple of those one Friday evening so I could make the late-night shows, and I didn't stop twitching and jabbering until Monday morning. I swear, my eyelids were fluttering sideways and for some reason my socks wouldn't stay up. People kept looking at me. Sleep was out of the question.

I like mio energy because you mix it with water, so you are getting hydrated as well.
Red bull zero has the least offensive taste to me. Red bull blue is blueberry flavored, too sweet for me. The red is cranberry and is pretty tasty. The silver is lime and is also pretty good.
I also love 5 hour energy.
I don't mess with other energy drinks, I like red bull because it's less fluid so hopefully I have to pee less.
But last year I was all mio energy and 5 hour energy and it worked out great.

If you want to get jacked then drink Nos. I bring about six of them to every Roo. They'll get ya twitchy and paranoid in the best way possible. They blast you right awake and keep ya in that state for hours. I've been guzzling them for years and my body still ain't used to their effects. The sugar free doesn't hit quite as hard so might be a better alternative for Roo. Also, they taste a bit iffy when warm. Redline will also get ya going. Starbucks are tasty and very good for morning. It's like having a decent cold coffee loaded with chocolate. I carry a bag of coffee grounds around with me and munch on that through the day. That might upset your tummy though. I'd test out a few drinks before Roo to know what works best for ya and how your body handles it.
Sounds like I'm going to have to get a few and do some trial runs. I've been weighting down my camelback and taking some longer hikes to get ready for the walk to and from centeroo, maybe I should start drinking one of these things first and see what happens. Do the 5 hour energies at least taste better than Red Bull?
Personally i like Monster, i have a large tolerance to caffeine so they don't affect me too much. My advice is to get a drink and consume it before roo and see how it affects you to make sure you won't be too jacked up at roo.

the berry 5 hours taste alright, but they certainly don't taste good. The other flavors are all nasty. The thing with 5 hour energy though is its such a small amount, you're done drinking it in seconds, then just follow with some water and the taste is gone from your mouth.

Everything tastes better than Red Bull. I only drink sugar free or low-carb energy drinks, because I don't need or want the sugar in the others. Monster Hitman energy shots are okay, and sometimes they are only $1. If you like it big and carbonated, NoS sugar free is citrusy and delicious, and tastes nothing llike Red Bull. Rip-it seems like a semi-generic brand, but their citrus one is good. If you don't want yours uncarbonated, 4-C makes the little powder tubes that you dump into water, something like $4 a box of 14 or so. Rockstar Recovery in the orange flavor is okay, and there is a peach tea that is tasty., and neither is carbonated.
In my opinion, energy drinks are all effectively the same, with caffeine as the main active ingredient and a bunch of other crap that doesn't do much, and different flavorings, marketing and packaging to differentiate them. If you go with the small shots, don't drink several just because they are small, or you will likely be uncomfortable. Each one contains the same amount of caffeine as 2-3 average cups of coffee. Those are good on road trips when you want to minimize bathroom breaks in the near future. Even Walmart has their own brand that work, if you shop there.

There are also ones from Rockstar and Monster that actually contain electrolytes, etc like Gatorade. I live in Florida, working outdoors and find them to work better, taste better, and typically have very few calories. Monster Recovery comes in various tea flavors, Rockstar Rehab has lemonade, orange, a few others.
I am like stunned that zip fizz doesn't come up. Seriously. They're small, lightweight and dissolve in water. You can carry them into center and you just mix them with 12 oz of water. They taste good, have 10x the electrolytes of Gatorade and have a ton of b 12. Also lots of other vitamins and other goodies. These things get you going hard with no twitching/shaking/buzzing. Just awake and energized. Plus you are forced to drink a glass and a half of water. Win.
It's the only energy drink I bring that's not for mixing with vodka.
Also: a drink recipe Audra came up with that's pretty tasty
Red Bull Gin 1/4 squeezed fresh orange, dropped in.

What flavor of zip fizz do you recommend, and what is the average price for a 12 pack, and a 20 or 30 pack? Could I add this into my Camelbak bladder? Thanks.
I like all the flavors. Wouldn't recommend adding them to a camelback because you want to get the tube down as fast as possible. Best used by mixing it with a bottle of water. I think a 30 pack will cost you about 30$ at Costco. They have them on eBay also for about that price. 20 of the new flavor is on the zipfizz website for 24$. They come in packages of 3 at WalMart for about 6$. They are in the pharmacy usually. And I made a mistake. Its 30X the electrolytes of Gatorade, not 10X. This stuff is WAAAAYYYYYY better than any energy drink available. There isn't even a close second.
As someone who never really drank coffee I rely on energy drinks pretty exclusively for my pick me ups in the afternoon. I find that if you go for the sugar free versions you can avoid a lot of the "crash" when it starts to wear off.
Flavorwise there are some differences between brands, but if you do start easing yourself into them you'll eventually find something that you will like enough to get the job done. I personally like the Rockstar Zero Carb, it taste a little bit "fruitier" than the others (although I know it's all artificial flavoring).
I'm a fan of 5 Hour Energy, I usually don't experience a crash with those, and they perk me right up! Sometimes I get the extra-strength ones, which usually result in me singing nonsense words at the top of my lungs. It's awesome.

How am I supposed to sneakily check Inforoo at work when posts like this make me literally LOL?!? I am intrigued as to how what you drink affects your socks.
In other news, definitely 5-hour energy. I do one every night at Roo.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I'll be bringing a few of these! I'm really sensitive to caffeine, so a Rock Star or Red Bull would probably make me sick. This stuff is like candy, and it gives you a decent kick! edit: i feel like i should add that this stuff is all natural and gets it's caffeine from the coffeefruit. So you're not packing your body with tons of sugar and whatever else they put in most energy drinks.

Tried zipfizz for the first time today in grape flavor. Felt REALLY energetic (much more than when I take my ADHD meds), but then crashed like 2-3 hours later. Not sure if it's because I had too much caffeine. I will only drink 1 tube tomorrow and see how it goes.
Rockstar rehab is tasty (lemonade) and great for the morning after. The zero carb and low calorie options are not bad flavor wise and won't effect your stomach adversely. Red Bull bothers me from the taste on. 5 hour berry flavor is tolerable and help in the afternoon right after the.......long night/early morning/beers/bands/nap and then....on to the evening.

Just remember, caffeine dries your system out big time. So if you drink anything loaded with caffeine, drink even more water/electrolytes than before to keep from dehydrating.

I feel like the singing nonsense words thing will be a definite asset at Roo, so that just moved 5 Hour Energy to the top of the list. 5 Hour Energy, Zipfizz and the Rehab or Recover stuff are the things I need to try. I LOVE coffee but I'm kind of sensitive to too much caffeine and sugar. Can't wait to go hiking tomorrow!!!!!

Hmmm I've kind of had the opposite effect. My friend told me about how he drinks a 5 Hour before he goes out drinking and doesn't get a hangover the next day. I always drink one before I know I'll be drinking a ton. Something about the B vitamins but I'm not a doctor so don't take my word for it. Totally works for me.
My one friend (heavy drinker / bartender) didn't agree but I think it's worth a shot. (PUN SORRY)
Went to REI today and they're having their anniversary sale. Obviously, I ended up spending too much money. I did find Endurolites Fizz which is hopefully like the Zipfiz. They taste a little mediciney, which is probably due to the stevia that I can't stand, but would rather have instead of sugar. I also got some of my favorite things ever: Jelly Belly Sport Beans! They are really tasty and make you feel like you're eating candy but actually really do keep you going. Some of them have caffeine but I've only tried the non-caffeinated kind.
