A band would do a one off to play at something as prestigious as Hangout
Is this a joke? Unless you're a smaller band being promised a prime spot, there is nothing prestigious about Hangout. To most bands, I am sure it is just 1 of 100+ festivals.
1. Kings of Leon came out of nowhere, played bottle rock. Killers could be doing a mini deal with bottle rock, Sasquatch, governors ball. Killers do have a new album/ songs with their greatest hits. 2. MTV owns palladia and hangout- the chances of that being set up like that is very likely. They know what they are doing. If you want to follow logic it is in front of your face. I have been to 20 festivals and I know how it works. They butchered the launch last year and they are doing something cool this year.
May Tycho May Phoenix June Rooo July MMJ and Margo Price August Queen with Adam Lambert August Roger Waters (Bucket list #1) August Spoon and Portugal the man Sept Depeche Mode Sept Pilgrimage Fest
Hangout butchered the launch last year? You must have missed the 2012 iteration of Hangout's lineup announcement. That was the second worst rollout (Bonnaroo 2010 was the worst) of all time.
Also, we've all been to a lot of festivals. That's why we post on music festival message boards. That's a weak argument to make.

Yeah it's a joke, I was poking fun at the people on this thread that treat Hangout like it's the biggest fest on the planet

Kings of Leon played 13 (I think) shows between May and June last summer. That doesn't sound like they played a one off or came out of nowhere (plus they released an album last summer). It just so happened that they decided to start their tour with Bottle Rock. They probably would have played more US festivals if they hadn't played all of the other ones just a few years prior.

I figured it was the case; I just wasn't sure if you were one of those people

It was a midnight release what was so bad about it? Last yr was a joke, kept delaying the release, def dropped the ball on the 3rd headliner n had to piece it together. The full lineup wasn't out until March. A festival like that where the majority of the attendance travels far because it's on the beach cannot release a lineup 2 months before it happens. Ive had a ton of fun the last 2 yrs but no doubt they screwed up last year.

The lack of a third headliner was their fault? Coachella was without a third headliner at lineup release before too. I think it's just the reality of running a festival. (Unless I missed an interview where they took the blame for not having the third headliner booked)
It was a midnight release that lasted until like 4 or 5 AM. And then after everyone waited up that whole time, they didn't have the final headliner ready to announce (which was your critique with this lineup release; I would argue it's a lot worse when the lineup is released band by band).

It's not one off and special for hangout if they book a circuit through bottle rock, hangout gov ball and Sasquatch.
Does anyone want to argue blackberry smoke, the flips or fitz?
The funny thing is I have something tangible and you guys are arguing "hiatus" hearsay. I heard the same junk, and I didn't think they were possible. But this is pretty clear evidence. It says hangout artist 2014 and then the killers follow before a replay of 2013. The same with bb smoke, fitz and flips who you guys are not arguing against.
And yes mtv has an interest in hangout, why else send video camaras and one of your popular dj's to cover it.

As well, back to spectator, with my logic!
Come on dude, I'm on your side here. Outkast and the Killers are two headliners. Would the Flips headline a night if they're curating a stage?

It was early enough where it wasn't a big deal. Not March. Thats what Im arguing. Because you wake up the next day and the lineup is there for u (2012) is not dropping the ball at all.

*Sean O'Connell is the man Shaul entrusts to run it.
*Viacom (MTV/Palladia) have purchased the concert footage/video rights to the Fest. Hence, they DO have an interest, just not a ownership interest.
*The lineup will be announced on 92ZEW first on a morning in the very near future (assuming no other people/outlets leak it of course. Which I hope they don't cause I'll be sad.) The new 92ZEW app and it's Concert Information menu subscription might come in handy for such a thing....just sayin'....(sorry schlonginus...had to get SOME whoring in there...but is it reallllly whoring if it's FREE ON THE GOOGLE PLAY STORE AND APPLE APP STORE!!!!! Ahem.....)
*The beach aspect (and how HOMF caters to it's artists) DOES play a part in who they get. When Dave Grohl tells the world it's the best fest he's ever played at, other artists listen. Numerous artists stay and actually roam the fest and partake in it, so you know they tell their friends as well....
*The lineup is strong and deep IMHO. Different tastes for different folks, but I'm stoked. I'd be STUNNED if one day passes ever became available this year. At all.
*The Portugal. The Man./Crystal Fighters shows last year were 92ZEW Free Concert Series shows AT The Hangout (the restaurant/venue) during the local annual Shrimp Fest. And they're both GREAT live. Hangout has lotsa cool shows/events throughout the year. Visit sometime!

I'm so glad I was turned on to this board last year. Its like the pre-show entertainment before the fest! Bring on the Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik!

To the first star: That's a pretty weak connection. That's liking saying the media outlet that had the right to publish Kimye's baby's name had a say in the name of the baby.
To the second star: The beach aspect may play a role. I'm not arguing that. Artists tour where they want to play. But to think that it's going to get a headliner to play a one off? As for Dave Grohl, that's cool and all, but Lollapalooza has Perry Farrell making decisions; Newport Folk Fest has Jim James, Colin Meloy, and numerous other notable musicians making decisions. I don't think Dave Grohl making a positive comment about the festival in an interview is going to secure a headliner. Now if they were to hire him to help book artists, then maybe...
To the third star: I am not arguing against this. I don't think many other people in this thread are arguing against this either. Hangout has done very well for itself as an upstart festival; I would love to make the trip some year. Those who are critical are not pointing their criticisms at the festival but at those with extremely high expectations.

For the love of synthetic gods, I'll volunteer a dear friendship for sacrifice. We got OutKast and Childish Gambino. Probably FLips. Chill out you self-righteous inter-stains. Enjoy an interaction when you find one, and not just for the Narcissism. Party on, kind children.
