That's exactly how my last employer was...2 weeks vacation and a crazy amount of paid sick leave. It's a dumb approach because it just encourages people to fake sick all the time...i'd never use all the sick time that they gave me, since they gave so much, but vacation was extremely limited.
Now I get 27 days of PTO and that includes sick time. So much more simple and straightforward...wish all companies would adopt that strategy instead of separating the two.

Everyone who says they have PTO that goes unused over the years, you really should consider using ever day available. In my mind that's exactly the same as losing money because you're giving up more of your time than necessary and not getting anything extra back. Even if you just have a staycation you will be getting a better return on time invested and you'll probably perform a little better at work too. If you genuinely like your job enough to not use PTO then hey, far be it from me to tell you what to do!
And just to keep the discussion going, I get six weeks of PTO a year BUT I don't get scheduled holidays or sick days. So any work day I don't want to come in I have to use a PTO day. It's actually a pretty good system.
I've only taken four days off this whole year and only two of those days were consecutive. Add that to working about 60 hours a week including lots of late nights and weekend time and Bonnaroo can't come soon enough!
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

I have 15 vacation days, 7 sick days, 3 personal days, and then 10 holidays every year. I use every single hour of my time-off and I am usually struggling to make it through December by the time it comes. Raising two kids and then having regular doctors appointments for my own issues takes up a lot of it.
They do separate it at my work but my boss doesnt care. It is all the same thing really. I take time off whenever I need it.

I have never not had paid vacation at a job since I was 16. Even most part-time jobs I had in HS had some paid time off. I would pass on any company that didnt have it. That's just as important as insurance to me.

I have about this same exact amount. And i always run out and start taking non-paid days off and let me tell you those suck. But still better then working
I just started a new job and when my old job told me they do not pay out accrued vacation time when you leave, I thought I was going to have to cancel my Bonnaroo trip Then, my new job told me that as a new employee I can use my un-accrued vacation time, but if I leave before 6 months have past, I just need to pay back what Ive used. Thank god for (some) big companies who are afraid of litigation

yeah that would be great!! My boss is a stickler too. I know other dept heads let their minions use sick time for filler on vacations..not mine if I only had 72 hours of pto for my two weeks and tried to use 8 hours of sick he would never let it happen. But I guess I shouldnt cry too much at least I get PTO at all.

Of course. It's a glorious thing. My first two Roos, I didn't have any vacation time, and in fact, my second Roo, I was unemploy... wait, no. I'd JUST gotten this job the week before Roo.
When you are part of a family operation, there's no such thing as "PTO" anymore. Slim chance I might have to do a little work at Roo. Wouldn't trade it for the world, though.
If you need awnings, metal working, or commercial exterior/interior vinyl graphics, send me a PM.
Yup! I'll be on this weeklong work trip that kills a whole flock of birds with one stone:
1. Work paid for my flight from SF to Nashville (we're a music app based out of California, but our designers are in Nashville, and a bunch of record labels/music people I work with are down there) 2. I'm staying with my Nashville co-workers, so don't have to pay for hotels 3. My dad and stepmom moved to Florence, Alabama last year (which is only a couple hours away), so I'll be visiting them for Father's Day 4. This whole work trip overlaps with Bonnaroo, so I'll get to go to the fest on Thursday and see my friend's band play!
