Truth be told, I don't really get hangovers. But when I do, I always find that the gym helps with it the next day.
You're right... you must not really get hangovers. Seriously, congrats. I've only had a few but I can't look at the screen on my phone without wanting to puke, let alone get my swell on

I regularly run 5K's, I'm excited to do this if they do it correctly. However, I'm a little apprehensive that they haven't thought this fully through.
5K's run in the summertime heat are pretty normal, but they have to be carefully planned and staffed. Ones that I've run in 80+ degree heat routinely have at least three support stations along the route that have water, first aid, and then another at the end with tons of fruit and other refurnishing foods. Additionally, ones that are in remote locations typically have showers available as well.
From the little information available on Bonnaroo's page about this 5K, it looks as if they haven't planned this far ahead and potentially won't have any of this available. I've emailed them and posted on their FB page asking for clarification, but as someone who does this regularly, I simply can't advise running this until Bonnaroo puts out additional information clarifying that they're planning this with care and taking it seriously.

That's a really solid point. For someone that's practiced and hydrated you would likely be fine without a hydration station, but by Saturday most people will probably need some extra fluids. And 9am is a pretty late start for that kind of heat. Though I've never been to a 5k with a shower available.

Even as someone who is practiced and conditioned for something like this, you still have to have hydration throughout. I've seen experienced runners think that they can go without it have (at the very least) minutes added to their runs or have found them sitting on the sidelines after dehydration sets in.
This is my first year, so I'm not completely aware of the demographic, but I'd assume somewhat that the majority of people who might be interested in this may not be experienced runners at all. This could potentially be a very dangerous situation if it's not planned seriously.
Ya i love running half marathons/5k's but this sounds scary! I can only imagine how I'm going to feel that morning, but getting up and running 3 miles I just don't think can happen. I wish everyone luck! Took me some time to debate this.
As for hydration ya there are people (Like my gf) who insist they don't hydrate during halfers or 5k's because that is how she trains. But, with the amount of noobies doing this. I couldn't imagine not having hydrating at each mile.

I want to run it, especially since it was just a $5 donation, and I will definitely be running with my camelbak on just in case they don't provide water....but I cannot imagine that they would just throw something like this together without thinking of possible legal reprecussions. Some people are too dumb to remember to drink water but they aren't dumb enough to get litigious when the time is deemed right.

I do find it ironic that basic necessities of a professionally run 5K aren't mentioned in any of their information, but the requirement that you have to sign a waiver absolutely is.

I dont generally hydrate during 5k. If I'm going over 5 miles and it's hot I'll carry water with me, but I also expect that races will provide hydration. I've been in plenty of 5 milers that I needed it.
I cant imagine training for a half without hydrating.

I love the idea... I just quit smoking this year after 10 years of it... Been getting big into running since... That said, I don't think I'll be joining in. The heat will be bad enough; and I really want to make it late into the night. Somehow, I don't see myself up past midnight or 1 AM if I run this.

Ya she is nuts. We run 4 halfs a year about. I drink at EVERY water station and she doesn't drink at a single one. But she knows what she is doing. Hikedthe full 500+ miles of the Colorado trail last year in like 33 days. Was absurd. But ya they really need to hydrate for this. If they have that it will go smooooooooooooooooth. Be a blast for those with that kind of energy! If this was Friday morning I'd be all up in it.

I guarantee you they will have MORE than enough watering stations along the way as well as first aid. They know what can happen in the Tennessee heat (deaths every year), and they will be prepared to make sure everyone stays safe.
This sounds pretty f*cking crazy to me, especially if we have 2010 or 2011 level temperatures. Yeah, it's only 3 miles, but you get no true relief from the heat once it is over. Good luck!

The few times I've ran a 5k the energy that washes over me is incomparable to my regular 3-4 mile jogs. It's great to be running in a pack of people, zipping past the slow (the very slow in my case), and taking in the sights around you. Cruising around the farm in a swarm of runners sounds like a fun and unique way to see it. Unfortunately I have a hard enough time maintaining energy for all the shows I want to catch. Getting up earlier than normal and then running might do me in. I'd love to do this but would regret it hard if I missed shows while recovering at camp. I look forward to pics, video, and stories. This is a badass and unique way to 5k. I hope everyone finishes it safe and feeling fine.
I'm in pretty good shape, but have never actually run a 5k, and am trying to visualize how long it is. Shouldn't it still be less than 25 minutes to finish with a light jog?
I'm gonna kick my cardio up a notch for the next few weeks in preparation.

There is a 5k trail near my house that I can WALK in 45 minutes so you should for sure be able to run/jog this in 25 but don't push yourself to be one of the people in the "fast lane". It's not worth it to wipe yourself out. This should be a fun event to walk/jog but I can't see the benefit of running it.

Oh, I agree. No way am I gonna push myself too hard. It's just for fun, and to get my croo laughing at me as I struggle to run in the heat, while they drink beer.

I average about 4 miles a run on my light training days. Taking it super easy in decent shape you are looking to average 10-11 min miles. Pushing it you should be done at around 25 minutes.
I too can see absolutley no benefit in taking this serious. I'd be shooting for like a 40 min time if i signed up.

I signed up for it. Im going to do my darndest to make it as well. Sounds like a neat experience. I ahveonly ran in 1 5k that was organized and did it in just over 30 mins. I regularly run the 3.1 miles on the treadmill at the gym and am currently doing single miles in under 9 minutes if I push hard.

I expect to do this like the color run. Jog a little, stop and play, jog a little more, get distracted. If I do this in less than 30 minutes something's wrong.

25 mins would have you doing just over 8:00 minute miles. I wouldn't call that fast but maybe not a light jog either depending on your running abilities. 5k's super manageable though.
Also, maybe it's having grown up in the South (in wetlands more humid than Tennessee) but I shouldn't think water stations will be necessary for a 5k. I mean, I plan to show up fully hydrated myself but I didn't even really think about them needing water stations. Maybe if I were running in a costume, though...

Or running without sleeping the night before. Which would be me if I did this.

I've yet to run a 5K that didn't have either people handing out water or water stations at a minimum of 2-3 points. Necessary or not, and granted, if you are a regular runner who is well-hydrated, it's likely not during the race, it's still a liability issue.

I wish I was still able to run/walk that distance like I could when I was younger. Alas, my left leg pretty much won't allow it anymore but kudos and good Karma to those who decide to do it
