SSSSSOooooo.. Just realized that Pretty lights is playing FRIDAY night. YUCK!! that means a LATE LATE Set before the run. glad my sat afternoon isfree. it may be nappy time under the awning.
Call me crazy but I just signed up. $5 to help contribute to the farm. I'm down with that regardless if I run the race or not.
I just singed up too! I run every morning 4 or 5 days a week (my machine says i do an eight minute mile, 8 miles every morning, does that make me fast or medium, i think medium) any ways I can prolly finish in forty five minutes half an hour max. Ok an hr but still should be fun even if I don't go just to watch people attempt such a thing.
I regularly run 5K's, I'm excited to do this if they do it correctly. However, I'm a little apprehensive that they haven't thought this fully through.
5K's run in the summertime heat are pretty normal, but they have to be carefully planned and staffed. Ones that I've run in 80+ degree heat routinely have at least three support stations along the route that have water, first aid, and then another at the end with tons of fruit and other refurnishing foods. Additionally, ones that are in remote locations typically have showers available as well.
From the little information available on Bonnaroo's page about this 5K, it looks as if they haven't planned this far ahead and potentially won't have any of this available. I've emailed them and posted on their FB page asking for clarification, but as someone who does this regularly, I simply can't advise running this until Bonnaroo puts out additional information clarifying that they're planning this with care and taking it seriously.
I thought about the shower thing too, they really should be free for runners I think. It's not cool to expect people to go and pay for a shower after going through all that. At least have a mist tent set on maximum.
It does show what appear to be water stations on the route map. I might add another one though.
It would appear it would cost more than the donations would bring in to do it right? Medical staff, ambulances, water, fruit, showers. That all adds up. I mean they will have ambulances just in case right? don't they have too? All that costs money.
I signed up and will be doing. But they have to do it right, you're right an that!

I want to run it, especially since it was just a $5 donation, and I will definitely be running with my camelbak on just in case they don't provide water....but I cannot imagine that they would just throw something like this together without thinking of possible legal reprecussions. Some people are too dumb to remember to drink water but they aren't dumb enough to get litigious when the time is deemed right.
Bonnaroo forces this long release form on all runners signing up. You can't sue them over the run no matter how poor their preparation might or might not be.
So it turns out that our groop camp is right on the route. I'll be handing out water to the runners but 1 out of every 10 cups will be filled with vodka. Ya know, just to make it interesting
Look for me w the vodka please. Or can I ask for it?
I'm doing it. For those worried, it's not going to be too hot at 9AM. I did a 5k last year on Cinco de Mayo that ended up being 95 degrees and that was brutal...but I don't think it will be past 80 at 9AM during Roo. You'll be fine...even without water stations if you're decently conditioned. For the record, 25 minute 5k's are pretty damn fast IMO. I've been running for about 4 months now and my fastest is 27 something, and that was on a flat course.
I'm happy they're doing this though. It will cleanse everything out of my system after a crazy Friday night with Macca and Pretty Lights

Pulled the trigger and registered. This may be very wishful thinking but I'm hoping to go sub 20. My PR is 17:30, but I haven't went under 19:00 since high school. Haven't ran a 5k since October so this should be a blast!

Wow, I wouldn't even do this for money and I exercise religiously. This must be for the people who plan to do zero partying during the weekend. I guess walking it wouldn't be so bad, but If ur going to take part in Friday's late night then I doubt you'll be making this.

The amount of DUST this will kick up will be horrendous for the other festival-goers.
Remember a key Roo Rule ... Don't be that guy !
If the run map allowed one to see parts of the festival one normaly does not see, okay do it.
( examples: behind the stages, VIP, the KOA, Bushy Branch Rd., etc )
But it runs through the campground near the centeroo entrances.
THIS WILL BECOME A DAMN MESS !!!
By all means, donate the 5 bucks ... Hell, we each should donate $10 to insure this does not happen !
Keep in mind where you camp is a crapshoot, you could get stuck in their path of DUST !
Holy Jesus you are the f*cking worst.
No ... I want it to be better for all involved. I do think it would be better if run map ran around the back of the stages and kept on the paved roads , and that early in the morning they could do it.
I understand shawnnwin and his concern but in my opinion if there is going to be dust there is going to be dust! The runners might kick up some or even a lot of dust but there will be a lot of dust anyway won't there? I mean what about all of the other people walking around all day long kicking up dust. I am sure there will be more people not running than are running, and that they the not runners will kick up more dust all weekend then the runners do all weekend, including their run. How many of the eighty thousand people will do this really? My guess is fewer than ten thousand.
I think it will be fun and I will be camped in access right in the path of all the dust. I don't have a problem with it.

If you can do 8 miles at 8 minutes per mile, you are fast. Join whatever group you want, but in my book you are fast. I don't think I can do a single 8-minute mile. Downhill.

Probably just a result of the algorithms of the machine I'm using I don't run outside I just use the different machines at the gym. I will be much slower at roo. If I can finish in an hour I will be very happy.

I think you're selling yourself short. An hour 5k comes out to over 15 minute miles. So long as you can at least keep a steady pace, even if slow, I'd say you're looking at a much quicker time.

Regardless, if you can run for 8 miles (or whatever your machine says is 8 miles), then you are a rock star. Kudos!
I think most people will be taking it easy: objective, survival. But, I want this souvenir: a bib from the first Bonnaroo 5k. You can only run/walk/start the first one once. Hopefully, it will be fun, safe event with some good stories to share. I'll see everyone at the finish line!

My Philosophy.... I will Finish, but I want the bib. I may try for a sub 30min run, but we shall see....

at least we know what will ruin Bonnaroo this year....the dust. NOONE MOVE SUDDENLY WE WANT NO DUST! Signed up to run, lets do this shit! Like I told others, if it fails miserably, I can say I was a part of the first and only Roo run.

Listen, self-proclaimed fat kid over here and I can WALK a 5k in under an hour...with my 5 year old in tow. You can do it, for sure!
