That's just Colorado Ron's signature.
Although I'm generally pro-word filter, it seems as if it was recalibrated around the time of the change over and it's a little bit overbearing now, particularly the way it picks up compound words if one of thim is naughty, like, um weenieey (d*ckey) or something (can't think of a good example now).

Ya the compound thing is new. Just PM one of the mods. The word filter is messy, and we can't possibly conjure up all the compound possibilities out of context. When I see it, I change it, but we don't always see everything (try as we must...).
Look, I get it - the word filter exists for some really shaky reasons which people seem to think are important and logical. I get that.
But can we at least revise the f*cking thing? I could possibly see a reason for blocking out f*ck and sh*t, and maybe even b*tch. But d*mn? That's barely even a curse. Or the word d*ck, which often turns normal sentences to nonsense because people don't realize that the use of a very common male first name is against the rules? Or the other, more standard/clinical terms for genitalia? It's ridiculous that "p*nis" gets changed into weenie.
Also, can we get rid of the ban on the word dr*g/dr*gs? When you can't have a thread about a band that's playing Bonnaroo because they become the War on NO NO WORD!!! it's time for a change. Especially because the word "dr*g" is a lot more innocent than marijuana, weed, cocaine, coke, crack, heroin, LSD, mushrooms, molly, MDMA, ecstasy, pot, etc., all of which we can type with impunity.
This was all inspired by the thread in the Which Stage which is presently mangling the name of the Reno 911 comedy special for this year.
I presume you just have it entered as *d1ck* or something like that?
For every filtered word there is a checkbox for "exact word", which only filters that word instead of any compound variation. We haven't gone through and clicked this box for each word until one of us notices (or someone points out) that the compound filtering is a problem, since sometimes not filtering only the "exact word" is appropriate.
I'm legitimately curious. Has anyone ever gotten in trouble for being on a web page that had a curse word on it that wouldn't have been in trouble for being on that web page in the first place?
I'm not asking for much. Just "d@mn" and "dr*g." I'd be happy with that.
There was a post with a poll and everything about this a while back. People wanted to keep the filtered words as is. You can feel free to self censor that way (dr*g, f*ck, etc).

I'm surprised it works this way, because I've seen it filter words when they're part of URLs or other words that there's no way you've gone in and chosen the exact word. Like ghgdjgDICKhdjghjhgFUCKdofiSHITdogDOUCHEidu for instance
Sorry, but it's vitally important that certain people are able to steal from their employers without the slightest risk of IT preventing them from doing so
Our word filter literally has a mind of it's own. It loves to fuck with us. I've decided it is a living breathing entity at this point and I have no intention of messing with it.

I've seen articles talking about Abraham Lincoln getting buttbuttinated at Ford's Theatre, so I guess Inforoo doesn't have the worst (best?) word filters.
But seriously, while I get wanting to avoid "dr*g talk", it's pretty funny to me how often "eating corn" or "fungi" get mentioned. Like if we're actually worried about law enforcement scouring the forum, anyone with half a brain will pick up on the lingo in 30 seconds.

I'm not arguing against word filters. I'm just suggesting that they be revisited. It makes little sense to me to have "dr*g" filtered, when it's actually a fairly innocuous word which can be used in all kinds of ways. The way I see it, there are two rationales here - first, you don't want that word in there in case it triggers something through people's company websites, and second, it's a deterrent against people having that sort of discussion, as you don't want Inforoo to be seen as promoting illegal activity.
To the first point, I ask - do these people who are so afraid of the company's hand also not go to, say, the official Bonnaroo website? You know, where the word "dr*g" is used in band names and such? It's also highly unlikely that any company anywhere would target that word, due to its many, many non-illegal connotations.
Regarding the second, as I've ably demonstrated, we could be having all kinds of discussion about which Pod has the most primo cocaine, or what show is going to have the dankest weed, or which band would be the best to sit down and inject heroin right into your f*cking eyeballs to. With a word like d*ck or dr*g, wouldn't it make more sense to just police the usage? There are enough Upstanding Citizens on this board where, if the word "dr*g" was legalized (lol jokes!), I'm sure anyone using it to have a substantive discussion about where to obtain illegal substances would get reported ASAP. And so on.
Oh I realized you weren't talking about the filter being removed completely, but I thought you mentioned @ and * censoring instead of silly words. But the people of inforoo spoke on that before and it was decided they would stay. All I was saying is if you want to avoid the silly words, you can type out the @ * & ~ censorings.
We're talking about the other stuff in the secret mod cave. We get your point

I cannot be the only one who laughed out loud at "buttbuttinated."
I think it would be silly if the outcome of this thread is that the word dr*g and the names of all them both end up being banned.
Yep. Which is why we're talking about it
Historically we've just kept an eye out (and used the helpful posters who report posts) to curb use of actual TERMS for drogas. It's not really something we turn a blind eye to, just because it's not filtered.
Someone named Molly can be in ecstacy because of the delicious mushrooms they put on their pizza, do we want to add to the filter to prevent her from expressing this sentiment?
