Most people think 2 is at the bottom (or battling 5 for that honor), but I've always thought it was necessary and a very well done season.
I think while you watch the season it stands out as being almost out of place, but when you watch the entire series you realize it was a vital part in the buld-up of the show.

I can see that. It was such a shock to see how different the show was in season two but when you settle into it, I think it's pretty outstanding. As you said, it's a vital part of the puzzle.
