We had a horrible time last year with keys.
We lost the keys while the car door was open. The car alarm ended up going off several times and people were getting annoyed with us. The doors were open long enough for my boyfriend to go check in centeroo if someone turned them in the lost and found, checked by the porta potties, and we flipped everything upside down. Finally we started calling to see how much it would cost to get a new one remade. I can't remember for sure how much it cost but I think it was in between $250-$500 (not just a regular key). We finally found it underneath the suitcase where it had totally been flipped upside down and was on top of the keys. I think this went on for an hour or two. I hope that others will learn the valuable lesson we learned from this experience.

Obviously, my girlfriend needs help with knowing who is signed onto inforoo!! But yes, it was me who panicked when we couldn't find the keys and crawled through the open trunk to get inside the car where the doors were locked with Honda's beautiful auto locking feature. When i pulled up the lock and opened the door, we were blasted with at least 2 solid minutes of horn blasts. People around us were well past annoyed because we must have set it of 3 or 4 times in the hours that we couldn't find the keys. I think I did more walking (powerwalking from centeroo to the campsite to the pods searching frantically for these damn keys) in those hours than I did the entire 4 days at Roo. And yes, we really did find them smashed into the grass under our suitcase that we had thrown out of our tent in our frantic search. She is also correct that a spare key is a very good idea, and I wasn't the only moron because when I got to lost and found in Centeroo, I started to ask them and they just pointed to this huge box of keys. The moral of the story is don't eat too much corn, or you will turn stupid.

That's a very unfortunate story! But yes, it is a very good idea to bring spare keys. I drove my car last year and brought like two extra keys because I was really scared I would lose them! All worked out well though. Sorry you lost your keys!
As a key loser on a regular basis I've bought one of those magnetic cases to hold the keys. When I'm in town they're in the garage but on the road I just attach it under the car. There's room for more than one key (the house keys disappear as well). I think it was about 3 bucks, way less than the drugs I would have to take if I lost my keys at the roo
This year, i'll be riding with my g/f. I'm making sure that she makes a copy of her key so that if we get split up and i need to retrieve something out of her whip, i won't be locked out and SOL; we all know how big of a bummer something like that can be.
My advice - refrain from bringing any unnecessary keys. If you aren't driving, try not to bring any keys at all if that's possible.
The more things you don't have to account for, the better. Especially if you're like me and you're practically OCD about constantly making sure i haven't lost my wallet, sun glasses, etc.
I lost my keys at Disney World this week. Had to get a neighbor to overnight my spare key. If I had lost them at Roo, I would have been screwed. Better to get that lesson out of the way, I guess.
I just locked my keys in my car today. Luckily I had a spare at home.

Have you locked your keys in the car?
Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone. If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. This will save someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).
so before you head to Roo make sure someone at home has got a spare key...
I have a major problem with locking my keys in my car and losing spares....i think i've lost about 5 spare keys and locked my keys in over 15 times. I'm not sure what part of my brain didn't develop enough to learn how to use keys but i got a magnetic box and i'm always scared that it's gonna fall off when i'm driving so i duck taped a key under my license plate and it works like a charm and it's pretty discrete.

in 06' my ex-fiance locked her keys in her car as we were all setting up tents. like a 96 integra. luckily my friend is a tech at mercedez and brought a bag of tools. we pried out the window, stuck a spatula connected to a coathanger held onto by pliers in the window and got it unlocked. turned out to be a fun story to tell when i actually feel like typing.....there was more involvement from everyone during this whole ordeal. but now we can laugh about it.

Not to be a downer here...but Snopes says this is just an Urban Legend and wouldnt work on a standard remote entry system. Have you tried it personally?

i left my keys in mu unlocked car last year. some may say I'm too trusting but my opinion stood that there wasn't really anything in my car worth stealing and good luck trying to drive away with the car! ha ha ha!

I like to keep my truck locked, but I make sure to leave my keys in a safe spot in my tent and not carry them around all over Centeroo.
Last Nov. I lost my wallet at Bear Creek Fest for a few hours, searched all over my camp, went by lost and found, finally laid back on my air mattress in my tent to rest between shows, looked up and saw it hanging over my head in a cup holder. (it has a mesh bottom, so it was only visible from below.)
Last year the keys got folded up and packed away with the tent. Didn't realize this for like a half hour, then found a half a dozen massive spiders while I was crawling through looking for the keys. Good times, good times.
