So I'm a second time Roo'er, and I go for the music (of course!!), but I noticed a severe lack of gay at last years festival! I'm not looking to get laid, I'm just wondering if there is any community, or any meetup that ever takes place? and if there isn't, then lets GET THAT SHIT TOGETHER! I am down for meeting new friends of any kind this year, so the more the merrier--- I just missed the gay, and was wondering where it could be found!

I'm new to Roo but isn't it about togetherness? I'm black and if I started a thread asking all the black people to start a separate meetup I think it defeats the essence of the farm. Just my two cents.
I get pretty "gay" when I'm messed up if that qualifies
No no no! I just was wondering if there were any pre-organized groups or places that people hung out. I know I'm not fixing my case, but I definitely did not mean to be discriminatory AT ALL! Thats why I mentioned that I am looking for anyone at all that wants to meet up--- NEW FRIENDS, its totally about togetherness... I'm sorry if it came off any differently.
hahahah! I know, but that page has nothing happening ever--- and people never follow through! So excited for this year though-- Also, the bottom guy would have way too much lower back pain to be smiling like that.
This will be my 3rd roo...and being gay I can say there is def a severe lack of "gay" compared to Coachella/Ultra/Lolla HOWEVER, the community and people in general are 100% better at Roo. Never once have I felt like I didn't belong, even after glitterbombing myself with a gallon of glitter (no joke) during LN 2 years ago after Scissor Sisters lol. We've tried meet-ups in the past but once everyone gets on the farm things kind of go in different directions. I'm down to party it up this year if we get something going!
I'm pretty sure Big Freedia was the Big Gay Meetup last year. Idk if there's going to be anything like that this year other than RHPS, but I do know that Roo is the only place (thus far) that I've felt comfortable covering my manly booty in a full-length skirt in public. The gay is there if you look for it!
And Phi, thank you - I've been looking for new things to try!
We'll let's make something happen then. Or at least attempt to, maybe at Empire? I'd say I'm so down for Rocky, but idk if ill be there in time. My campsite is always a party-- and I'm gonna be the ginger In neon football stripes and a rainbow flag cape, at least at some point. So at least make yourself known if you see me!!
Meetups are great (see Brunch), but, yeah, it's pretty difficult to follow through on most of 'em. Too much going on for me to remember to find the 4 other homos on Inforoo.

But I'm single and I'll be at Brunch!

I will be at Roo this year with my boyfriend and my friend Patrick. Last year I fell asleep before the scheduled meet up at Big Freedia and I also missed brunch because of a dance off near my camp site. There weren't many LGBT last year, but I felt welcomed. I ended up meeting many cool str8 allies around the farm.
Otherwise how would any of us connect via fbook group. I'm so chill about all of this, nothing too serious just seeing whose around and wants to party!!! So excited !
Nashville Gay Pride is the same weekend as Bonnaroo... this might have something to do with smaller numbers of the local (as in Middle Tennessee) gay community present?

This is going to sound corny as hell, but Roo is basically post-sexual orientation. No one at Roo cares much about anything other than listening to amazing music and having a great time. Or think of it this way: lots of people are dressed in costumes, wearing as little clothes as possible, getting tan in the TN sun, and dancing until dawn all night. Roo is already 80% of the way to gay anyway. When you're that close to 100%, you're immersed enough in the gay that you don't notice individual LGBT people...hence post-sexual orientation

My girlfriend and I will be camping in VIP, bringing a bunch of Midwestern craft beers and looking for some other queers... We will have a rainbow boa somewhere in our little world... Also we will be the two girls kissing sometimes :-)
Its my second Roo, her first, and while I understand the weird backlash to the idea of a meet-up because everyone is just so....together already. I think there would be something really reassuring about finding a little subcommunity -
