So, I'm considering getting some Vibram Five Fingers shoes just to wear casually. Do they take a lot of time to break in? How does the sizing run? I've read that some swear by them for Bonnaro, while others say that they are hard to wear while walking on the gravel. I will be in Groop camping this year, so a good 10 minutes or so each walk of walking will be done. My feet tend to swell up a lot in the heat and after a full day of walking and these don't look too constricting. How's the support in them? I'm guesssing it will hurt something major if someone steps on my foot while wearing them. I already have a pair of Crocs, New Balance sneakers and those Nomadic State of Mind shoes. I have a feeling I am going to get stuck in the rain. I did a search, but couldn't find these answers in previous posts. Thanks for your advice.

I love the Vibrams for going to the lake or the river and I enjoy them at fests, especially on muddy days. You may want to find a store near you that carries them and try them on and see what you think before purchasing. I think there is not much variation in sizing from a normal shoe. You won't get much added support. It's basically like being barefoot with a rubber pad to protect the soles of your feet. It's no trouble walking over gravel on them. Your feet swelling could be a problem since they are tight. I didn't break mine in the first time I wore them and while they felt great initially by the end if the day my feet were sore. I love mine but wouldn't recommend them for wear all day everyday
Yes, I would definitely recommend finding a store that carries them and giving them a try before buying them. Due to the way they are made, there are more issues with them not fitting people well, i.e. toes too long/short, too big, etc. I tried a pair on after seeing some positive reviews from others, and they just don't feel good on my foot.
I tried some on once, but my toes are weird. I'm tempted to try again with a different style. They make different ones with different amounts of support. I've seen people run marathons in them, so if you get the right ones and you have the right feet for them, it may work out great. Maybe not.
No matter what you do, though, always always always give your shoes a test run before throwing them on for a full Roo day.
Ha. I scored a pair of these on woot last week for $30 and luckily they fit perfectly. It almost makes up for me fucking up and leaving my reef flops in the condo during Hangout fest (didn't realize I left them until a several days later).
I f-ing swear by mine for working out. They saved me from getting cortisone shots in my hip which very rarely hurts now. You definitely need to try them on since different styles will fit differently. I wear the KMD Sport in size 38 for the gym since they are better for people w/ wide feet, but I have some Entradas for hiking/running in size 37 which are also good for wide feet but aren't as structured. I haven't been to roo before but I'm bringing the Entradas and will probably switch out w/ my Tiva sandals. If you can take them on a walk or light hike before roo that would be best, just so you can get used to them. Your calves will be sore at first, but they are worth it
I would recommend against Vibrams if you have Morton's Toe (the condition where your 2nd toe is longer than your big toe). I got Vibrams a short time before Bonnaroo a couple of years ago. I have Morton's Toe, but they seemed to fit nicely when I tried them on. Fast forward to the end of Bonnaroo, and both 2nd toes are black and blue. Shortly thereafter, both toenails fell off. Have not worn the Vibrams since!
I just realized what shoe you all were talking about here. Those things give me the creeps. But so do Crocs. I'm really into shoes but for some reason, those two wig me out.

I jumped on that same deal! They are awesome.... will definitely be trying em out this year
Got them for $35 aswell. First day I wore them I ended up having them on for like 13 hours and did plenty of walking. They dont feel bad on the feet but by the end of the day I was ready to take them off. I think your toes just need to get used to being spread apart instead of crammed together like a normal shoe. I'm going to be switching shoes between my vibrams and asics until bonnaroo so I can be sure they are broken in. Hoping for no rain or at least only 1 shower or something but I wanted to be prepared to deal with 5-6 full days of mud since I'm getting there tuesday and will be walking all over the place.
Make sure they are broken in BEFORE Roo!! My advice for anyone with shoe questions is to BREAK THEM IN before you get to the farm... I've made this mistake before. You gotta live in those for the next week if you're planning on rockin' em.
