Help Help Help Has anyone ever rented a car for cash? I don't appear to meet the desired criteria with my credit cards(which add up to more than enough for the rental) to rent a vehicle, and they won't accept my debit card for rental-only payment. Am I just fu(ked?

my hypothesis is you're probably "fu(ked", unless you can pay an EXTREMELY LARGE amount of cash for a deposit.. that's what i figure anyway.. that way they know they're gona get somethin, should you destroy their vehicle
where you comin from? i'm sure you could find someone near to travel with

Unfortunately I am coming from CT with my son & my neice. I might be able to do a compact car, and we'll just hafta travel light. Oh well, half the fun is in getting to the show right?

I rented a car through a used car lot last year because I didn't have a credit card either. All the major places like hertz make you have a credit card. I was bummed last year cause I had reserved a car through hertz with my debit card & when I got there they said they don't take debit cards. So we had to scramble around town looking for a rental agency that would take cash. Luckily we found the used car lot that would take it & it ended up being cheaper too.
Renting a car is a great way to go! I will never take my own vehicle back to bonnaroo again. ericka

I wouldn't take my own car back because the first year our car was running for over 24 hours straight in that heat. The drive down was 10 hours & the wait was 14 hours. Some of the time we could turn our car off but a lot of the time we were creeping a few feet and needed to keep it running. Plus I don't have air in my car.
When we got home from Bonnaroo the first year our car was running funny. Last year we took a rental car that had air. Who cares if that car is running for 24 hours straight!
Plus if a rental car breaks down you get a new one. If your own vehicle breaks down you have to get it fixed in a state that is not your own. Mechanics will jack prices up if they know you are from out of town and are in a jam.
I never take my own car on road trips anymore. It is really not very expensive to rent a car when you think what it saves your own vehicle in wear & tear.
Good news! Hertz corporate locations now accept check debit cards for reservations! You hafta call the customer service number at #1-800-654-3131 first to confirm that your location is a corporate location. My local office didn't even know that they should be accepting them, so it's a good idea to check for them.
my bummer is taht you have to bve 21 or 25 to rent cars in the states (i'm only & from canada)) so that option is closed to me wich is a damm bummer!cauze il'l have to camp out ruff stylin and will have to hitch a ride down from nashville airport (or get the shuttle)

Hey all, just thought I'd add that if you use rate codes BX, BY, or BW with Alamo, you might get some better deals. If they prompt you for a corporate number, some creative work with Google will get you one.
For other rental companies, you can find great deal codes at www.breezenet.com. They also have a section for renters who are under 25 years old.
I travel for work a lot and Breezenet has come in handy more than once for upgrades and discounts. Hope that helps!
Alamo will allow debit card rentals - that's who's letting me have a minivan for that weekend.....but you've asked enough questions I'm going to be confirming to be sure...
Try to rent from a small, local rental place. Anything that's not franchised nationally. The reason is that usually the 'mom & pops' are cheaper, plus you have a much better chance to actually get the car you requested. How many times do places like Hertz promise you one car, then have to give you something else. It's not that big of a deal, but for planning purposes, it's nice to know if I'll actually be getting an SUV like I requested or small Ford Escort that won't fit all my Bonnaroo equipment in??? Just my 2 cents...When you go to pick up your car right before leaving for TN, you don't want to go thru a big hassle and get delayed.
My local budget takes debit card so does enterprise. It depends on the branch. If the one in your town doesn't call the toll free number and ask them for the closest one who does take debit
