As a first timer planning to arrive sometime on Wednesday anyone have any idea on how to avoid the dreaded bfe... I am aware this is not an exact science

Come later on Wednesday to avoid BFE, but you can still get stuck in Super BFE instead because, as monky said, things are pretty random after BFE is filled.

What's considered super BFE? I was in pod 11 in 2011 which definitely felt like super BFE
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Pod 1 is considered BFE. Pod's 10 & 11 are considered Super BFE. The general consensus is that Pod 1 is filled up first. After that it is a crap shoot.

How bad was super bfe? 20 min walk? Space super limited?
I've always referred to Super BFE as East Jesus, since it's on the east side and there's actually a church out there. I was stuck out there one year, and it's 3 beer walk to Centeroo.

I was in Pod 10 in 2010 and it was over 30 Minutes each way. I wouldnt have minded it but it was super Hot that year. Of course even in Pod 10 your still "at Bonnaroo" and there is plenty to see on the walk between your camp and Centeroo.

In 07, (Dustaroo I) we were camped in Austin Powers, which was so far I believe it was closed/moved after that. Nearly an hour walk each way, and difficult terrain that far out as well... The next year we were in bfe, and it had been rainy and was muddy as hell the first day, and they never opened the side entrance to What stage field on time, so that was a long walk as well... Sometimes I'm amazed I came back, but karma has been rewarding me ever since so it's all good lol
truthfully , while being closer would be nice, BFE was not really that bad. I was pretty much dead even with the pod and it was like 20 minutes walk tops. I did the festicab rides too and that helps. I can think of several places on the farm that are much worse places to be.

We have been in pod 10 or 11 both years that I've gone. This year, we're hoping for a better place and we're leaving Athens, Ohio pretty late in the evening on Wednesday so maybe we'll get lucky this time but if not, all I've ever known are 30 min. walks to centeroo so it's not something that will bother me too much. I just really hope we wont be as far this year! *fingers crossed*
Been lurking in and out of here for a few years now.
pod 10 and 11 is "super BFE?"
I've been camped there before, quit being wusses. I dont remember how long it took to walk to centeroo, but I do know that as long as you have water then walking shouldnt be a problem. and if walking is a problem, you may be at the wrong festival.
it's good to know that i've already suffered the worst camping there is and I didnt even know it
I've never been put anywhere but BFE... although I had no idea I was actually in BFE! I've always enjoyed the walk, but I went to a large university so I guess I'm used to walking that distance. It's a good chance to chug a few beers and get pumped! I think there's a lot more space to spread out in BFE, it's not as bad as this board makes it seem.

the past two years ive been super bfe (pod 11) but we always go for tent only. carrying everything is terrible, but definitely worth it. as long as i dont get quarantined this year ill be perfectly happy.
BFE is awesome, less traffic around your camp, sometimes more space, quieter at night/morning when you're trying to sleep. Loved it the year we were out there...
oh goodness, our first year, (2010) we were the second row from as far out as you can go (by the church) and it was a 45 min walk to centeroo. that with the 105+ heat index made things MISERABLE!!! and that was being parked after 8.5 hours in line.

2010 was my first too and it was SOOoo brutal! Amazing line up, wretched conditions. BFE ain't so bad but TO is the way to go IMO.

See I had the opposite reaction! The music was amazing but after leaving on Sunday late noon I had pretty much said fuck this! Been there, done that, had a blast but I won't be coming back. Then the ridiculous 2012 lineup dropped (I mean Alice fucking Cooper! Ya gotta be kidding me!) and now I'm here to stay!
The only time I've been in BFE was 2009 when the Thursday maelstrom turned the connector road into a sour-smelling quagmire, and since Roo didn't open the side to What on time that year, we wound up either having to trudge through sucking grey mud or else share the road with traffic.
Liked BFE for the relative peace and quiet; hated the walk to the arch. 45 minutes or so by the time we'd made the long slog around VIP & such, and we were always filthy by the time we got there.
More of a qualitative hatred than quantitative...the walk per se didn't phase me; I was marathon training that year. It was the ugly aesthetics of it. I could see it being pleasant under the warm sunshine, though.
By the way, monkybunney: don't eat the yellow mud.

I had a good time in BFE back in 2010... plus eventually they open the gate by the What stage... so the walk gets cut in half...
Did Super BFE / East Jesus whatever you call it in 2011, we were literally next to the fence, watching people mow their lawns, it was hilarious, but like a 45 minute walk. Wouldn't recommend it hahaha.

We got there Wednesday at around 10pm in 2011, and were stuck wayyyyyyy in BFE by the tree line (I think the family guy camps if you look at the map). Last year, got in at about 1am, Camp Adrian...five minute walk from centerroo. It's seriously luck of the draw.

I've been in Pod 1 for the past two years and to be honest, I really love it. I wait maybe 45 minutes on the line into the farm and BFE becomes a giant party on Wednesday night. The walk to Centeroo isnt bad either, i either try and get in by the What Stage or if i'm not in a hurry take the long way and hit up Shakedown on the way there.
