"As the exclusive communications partner of this year's music festival in Manchester, Tenn., AT&T has installed two MegaCOWs (Cell Sites on Wheels), three COWs, six CARTs (Compact A/C Radio Telephone Sites) and four, five-beam multi-beam antennas that will enhance its award-winning 4G LTE network already deployed in the area. Mobile cell sites, covering several musical stages, will provide additional wireless coverage and capacity ensuring that music fans are able to share their experiences with friends and family from the 700-acre farm in Manchester."

One of the great things about Bonnaroo is that my cell doesn't work. If it does this year, I'll turn it on in the mornings to check the weather, but otherwise, that sucker is off-limits.
I carry both an ATT and a Verizon phone and both phones had trouble at certain stages. Specifically the main and outdoor. and i think gobi it also wouldnt work. everywhere else, and the campgrounds, yes.

Airplane mode is perfect for that. Can take pics and tell time, but nobody can reach you (unless you want them to)
I'll believe it when I see it. Every single word AT&T has ever told me is a lie, with the exception of "Payment Due."
AWESOME....
I do hope they step it up. in today's world, its hard to not communicate.
You're right; we have a lot riding on network communications, and so do Superfly/AC/etc. There's a tremendous amount of money to be made from the crowd movement data and from having us hooked in so they can tweet ads to us and so forth.
AT&T wouldn't be supplying these local network enhancements out of the goodness of its collective heart.
Oh, yeah, and the NSA will be listening in, too.
Actually...come to think of it...that's not that far-fetched a thought given the stepped-up security concerns that have recently been announced. Not that I want to touch off a bunch of paranoia or whatever, because there's a big noise-to-signal ratio in such things, but still.

Never being able to get service at places like Roo and ACL was a major factor in my leaving AT&T late last year. How's the service with Verizon been like at Bonnaroo in past years?

ugh.
I had been debating making a whole thread about cell-phone optimization at Roo, but when the NSA story came out I knew the whole thing would be over run with "I don't mean to be paranoid but..." conspiracy theories so I decided not to.

Yeah, that's exactly right. The ability to control/track cell phone communications on the farm would be very useful in a disaster-type event, just as it was in the immediate aftermath of the bombing in Boston, but it's the kind of thing that draws the black helicopter crowd like ants on sugar.

Truthfully, I have nothing to hide in my phone conversations, but it can be alittle creepy to know someone is listening potentially. fortunately, I in NO WAY fit any of their profiling.
Affordable beer at a festival? That's a good one. [/quote]
Hey, don't short-sell yourself. As of this moment you're batting 1.000 with Superfly, which is damned impressive. I'm, like, zero for thirty or something.
Switched to Verizon about a month ago because last year my fiance had service on the farm with Verizon and I didn't with AT&T. We'll see how this pans out.
ive had ATT forever. Just text. it has worked fine since whenever they finally got coverage out there. sure it isn't right away but "hey meet me at fountain @ 2" was all i ever needed to get through.
