Figures...the year we aren't going. It was awful thought trying to call home and check on the kids. I pretty much had to stand against the outside wall of the Fuse barn.
I can't complain too much though. Hubby's worked for AT&T for 12 yrs now and they've been very good to us. Can't bite the hand that feeds us, you know?

I had AT&T in 2011 when I camped in tent only and was going to go brunch; I called and it said I had no service and I never made it to brunch. I'm guessing this was the reason my phone crapped out.
"As the exclusive communications partner of this year's music festival in Manchester, Tenn., AT&T has installed two MegaCOWs (Cell Sites on Wheels), three COWs, six CARTs (Compact A/C Radio Telephone Sites) and four, five-beam multi-beam antennas that will enhance its award-winning 4G LTE network already deployed in the area. Mobile cell sites, covering several musical stages, will provide additional wireless coverage and capacity ensuring that music fans are able to share their experiences with friends and family from the 700-acre farm in Manchester."
This would be great. I hate not being able to talk to my wife and kids.

I had to re-read the original article. I thought at first they were saying that they built LTE cell towers. I drove by the farm less than a week ago and my iPhone 5 w/LTE was barely getting 1 bar and was on EDGE. I hope these COWS they're bringing in really work. It seemed like last year my phone only seemed to work when it told me I had checked in at a ton of shows I never went to/was no where even close to.

I am curious to see how this sponsorship will affect the other carriers. I have Verizon and have always had great service in the past. But wonder if the other carriers will be bringing in more COWs to compete with AT&T...
Never being able to get service at places like Roo and ACL was a major factor in my leaving AT&T late last year. How's the service with Verizon been like at Bonnaroo in past years?
I have Verizon and have never really had a problem with service

Sprint has had service in the mornings and at night....and sometimes...if you're lucky...around What Stage. But that's about it. My husband has had Verizon and every year he can make calls and send texts. I just wish Roo had farm wide wifi so I could at least send iMessages......but I'm an idiot when it comes to communications and stuff like that and I don't even know if it's possible.

I'm on the farm right now have AT&T. Have had speedy 3G and full bars since arrival last night. Of course, there's not many people here. We'll see what happens at capacity. Btw, you can SMS Tweets and such at 40404

I haven't dropped below 5 bars on my 3Gs as of yet. I'm impressed.

I must say.. I had EXCELLENT service Most of the time. My camp was always working with data, full bars. Centeroo was working verywell for me except at certain times I had issues sending a photo via text. What stage, I could text and call, but could never transmit any photos via text or facebook upload. Bravo AT&T. you did a Phenominal job. sadly, some of the folks I met that I was going to meet at other shows didnt fare so well and we missed each other.

The reason why MMS has a hard time at busy gatherings like the headliners shows, is mainly because its data and it takes a long time to sync. SMS travels on the control channels your phone uses just to connect to the network. MMS requires a access brlearer, which are low priority vs communication needs like SMS and voice.
I had some issues during McCartney with voice, and my data crashed at the lumineers for 10 minutes. Ran great most of the rest of the time. I'll give the team your best regards.

Gave up on my AT&T IPhone at Roo some time ago and this year just bought one of those TracFone burners at BestBuy. Was quite PO'd when I found out it ran on network minutes rented from AT&T (it depends on what model phone you buy which carrier you get and it is NOT printed on the package). Actually it did pretty well - both voice and texts.

unlocked Samsung Note 2 on AT&T, had pretty incredible service all weekend. Every now and again I couldn't get a text through, or internet to load, but I'd say 80% of the time there were no problems. Huge improvement over last year.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the Cellular service worked this year. I have an IPhone 4S on Verizon. The moments when I could not text or Facebook were few and far between. Even photos went through first time, most of the times I tried. Bravo!!!!
Kept my phone on airplane mode the majority of the time to save battery life, but would check in every couple of hours and almost always had full bars and was able to have any necessary text exchanges without any problems. My friend who had Sprint, though, had all kinds of problems.
It was better than the past. Data was spotty at best but voice and text always worked when I could keep my phone charged, which was basically never.
If you had a umts only phone, data was difficult. UMTS was built for voice and text priority on the farm. LTE data worked well all weekend, which is what I used for data.

Right my phone with AT&T has a LTE radio in it and my service was great, there was one instance at the Wu-Tang show that I lost complete service but worked everywhere else, my gf phone didn't have a LTE radio just HSPA+ and she couldn't get good data speeds saturday in centeroo, but at our campsite she was getting 4-5mbps. thank you at&t.
