I don't think the money thing is an issue really as long as it only funds the tickets that is a huge benefit to us tapers that don't have fat wallets. Hell with upgrading my gear every year i have to cut back on more and more shows. Also I am in agreement shows should never be bought sold or paid for basically this is the fans just helping the taping community out and in return we get to help them with more great shows.
I can see the room for abuse with this that's why it would need to be run by someone trustworthy and we would need to show updates all along tickets being bought tickets in hand etc.
I for one would be happy to spearhead this for getting it started and be willing to provided updates on a consistent basis if needed.
Not trying to discount perks opinion but not all of us tapers have a huge bank account and can afford all this.
Emorency are you willing to risk the incredibly open taping policy for $250? Bonnaroo doesn't need tapers there. They generously allow us to participate. If you can't afford your ticket why don't you take advantage of the many opportunities available to volunteer at Bonnaroo? Accepting payment from others (who are not the band/venue) to record is the same thing as selling your recordings. You are just taking the money up front.
Again don't rock the boat unless you are ready to deal with the backlash.

you are absolutely right perks, I never thought of it that way, it is indeed accepting money for a recording and therefore illegal. I wont be a part of it either. thanks for setting me straight. please except my apologies for bringing this up. I will bring beers to any microphones I see though. and corn. this is a labor of love for you guys, I can understand the feeling of satisfaction you get from putting up the effort and money for people to enjoy these shows.
if they got the feeling that these shows were for sale or that tapers were profiting off of them in any way they could easily ban audio recording equipment like ACL fest does.

I don't see how it is the same as selling the shows. there is a huge difference but ill drop it for now.
All of the big taping sites accept donations so that is no different they are taking money from end users to help fund and keep the recordings live so that is where i cant seem to see your argument but I will drop it for now I for one am handicap so i cannot do allot of those volunteer things at bonnaroo so it really doesn't help me out much in that regard that is the main reason I was interested.
If you are referring to torrent sites (like DIME) as "the big taping sites" they really have nothing to do with taping. Tapers simply use these sites to distribute their recorded material. These sites solicit donations to keep their servers running not to buy tapers concert tickets. The way torrenting works is that these servers never actually hold the data they help facilitate to distribute. They are simply matching seeders and leechers together.
If you really want to know what tapers will think about this crowd-sourced funding proposal I encourage you to go over to Taperssection.com and open a thread in the "Ask The Tapers" section. I imagine you will get some feedback that addresses every angle of this issue.
In regards to volunteering at Bonnaroo. If you are able to get gear into a show and get to the different stages to be able to record I'd argue that your disability is not going to prevent you from volunteering. How many shows did you record this year? I have my own physical disability that makes it more difficult for me to tape shows than others but I manage it to the best of my ability. I am also somewhat knowledgeable with the Americans with Disabilities Act and I know that Bonnaroo will have volunteer work that can be accommodated to meet your needs.
I will check into that then good to know they did accommodate me well it was my first year going the cart rides were especially helpful I manged to haul all my gear in a very small pack and i use a goby for a tripod for video I was on the disability platforms for almost every show. I do not use stands or any crazy gear like that as it would be to difficult to haul around.
This is a shot in the dark, but would anybody be willing to put a random Dime torrent in a zip file, upload it to sendspace and PM it to me? I just want to let it seed so I can get out of ratio watch and slowly build a buffer. Lost my old torrents to a hard drive crash.
I gotcha man, PM me. But I'm not sure it will work though now that I think about it. And Quack after doing a little study that won't work at all...damn sorry dude. Deets here - Security Warnings Section I'll PM you a possible temp solution though.
So I downloaded utorrent and then downloaded the torrent. The files that download say they are document files. Is there another step I need to do or did I already Quack up?
Also, how would I move it to ITunes? I'm hoping whenever I figure out the file issue then it will work.
You probably don't have the Flac codec installed so your computer doesn't know what the hell those files are or what to do with them. Download the codec here xiph.org/flac/ I'm not sure if windows media player (or what ever macs default media player is) supports flac or not but I use VLC player for everything, it's free open source and I've never seen a file it can't understand and play, you can get it here www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html .
Now as far as playing 'em on iTunes - I'm almost certain that iTunes doesn't support flac so you will need to convert the flac files to a format iTunes understands. There is a nifty free open source program called Flac Frontend you can get here members.home.nl/w.speek/flac.htm . The program will enable you to turn the flac files into wav files (MAKE SURE THE OPTION TO DELETE THE SOURCE FILES IS UNCHECKED!!!!). You can then add the wav files to your library and if you want take it a step further and use iTunes to convert the wav files into mp3 versions. PM me if you need more detailed assistance. In fact anyone who needs some help feel free to ask and I'll try pointing you in the right direction.

Apple has its own lossless format called ALAC...convert FLAC files to ALAC and then use iTunes to import the ALAC file...

the discussion in this thread has explored some interesting areas, not many of which i feel i am qualified to comment on. as a bonnaroo/live-music/recordings-of-shows-i've-been-to fan, i simply want to know, what would be the best way to encourage a taper to record a particular show? i would love for a recording of animal collective, but i'm losing hope. i was worried about this heading into bonnaroo and considered making a thread begging a taper to be there. your first answer should be: do it yourself. anything beyond that would be appreciated!
Working on Preservation Hall Jazz Band with Jim James sit in next.
I can't help you with an Animal Collective recording unfortunately. Typically I record the things I want to hear first and then things that are convenient second. By convenience I mean if I happen to be in the room waiting for something else and I have the gear with me there is a reasonable chance I'm going to capture the set. In this instance the AC Bonnaroo set didn't make the list. A thread asking a taper for help could have worked and I wouldn't hesitate to politely try that tactic in the future. If I saw your thread and wasn't already recording something else I may have been inclined to help you out.

I would be shocked if it weren't taped. there are a lot of AnCo sets that have been taped and are available for download.
Almost done with Mccartney the patch audio needed some mastering and eq work so I am trying to make it sound as consistent as it can be I think you will all be happy with the end result !!!!

"It's hard to say whether seeing Kellz backed by Jim James and his lion's mane hairdo or Billy Idol rocking out next to John Oates and his soul patch was weirder to watch. Let's just say both were beautifully bizarre sights to behold."

thanks a lot man! I feel bad for your connection. With one seed and 45 leechers and counting this is going to be a very painful process. there she goes. thanks a lot we really appreciate it. I will track down your microphones beers and corn in hand next time I'm at bonnaroo.
