posted this on the bonnaroo reddit as well, but figured there might be more experts here...
anyone else have problems while on the farm?
most years i have been (#7 this year) the dust (i think) puts a big damper on my ability to breathe properly. i don't sneeze or itch much - i just have what feels to me like it could be mild asthma that is only triggered on the farm.
i go camping, hiking, to outdoor events, i am even a semi serious runner (i typically run 3-4 miles at a time, and have done as much as 8, with regular breathing) i have mild seasonal allergies, nothing serious, and i treat them.
the only time this problem seems to surface is at bonnaroo. what will happen is i will have to focus intensely on getting air into my lungs. there is an audible wheeze, and it feels like a normal breath only fills maybe 1/3rd the capacity of my lungs. i have to make a really concerted effort to take a full breath and it is uncomfortable to do so.
this year i went the extra mile and wore dust masks with an exhalation valve. i covered them up with a bandana after i realized i couldn't walk 10 feet without being made fun of or asked "why are you wearing a dust mask?" (really??)
i didn't get as bad as i have some years, but i still had notable respiratory problems during and after bonnaroo. i spoke to a doctor this year and they put me on nasonex spray. as far as i can tell it didn't address the problem.
1) does this sound like asthma, if you can speak from experience please? 2) or is it some sort of allergy i may have to the dust or something that is only found on the farm? 3) does anyone have tips so that i don't have to be afraid to go next year and feel not in control of my body?
