So I'm considering hittingup my first music festival next year and it seems like Bonnaroo is the best option (correct me if I'm wrong, maybe lollapalooza?) but I was wondering when the lineup will be announced? And when tickets will first be available? If you happen to know this answer for either Bonnaroo or Lollapalooza, please let me know.

They're taking a break next year. Every five years, Bonnaroo takes a break (or what is called a Fallow Year) to give the city of Manchester and the farmland a break from the festival commotion. See you in 2015!

Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Yeah my experiences at Lolla were both not great. Good music, great city, terrible vibe, most people were unfriendly, logistical clusterquack, etc. I have never been to Coachella so I can't speak to that.
Bonnaroo. I have been to the last 5 and have had an amazing time each year. Each year has also offered me something different and special that has given each year it's own unique feel.

No clue for Lolly, but Bonnaroo tickets first go on sale in late November and the lineup is announced in February. Those dates COULD change; the best way to know is to sign up for the Bonnaroo newsletter or "like" their Facebook page.
I have not been to either of the other two festivals, but I can tell you that AC Entertainment tends to have their shit together better than other festival groups. I attend Roo and Forecastle every year and have yet to be unimpressed. Other festivals have been hits and misses, but I am constantly impressed by how AC manages to make one of the largest festivals in the US NOT look like the clusterfuck it most assuredly is. They also actually listen to criticism and the problems a person experiences one year tend to lessen or disappear (case-in-point: Forecastle's line to get in last year was AWFUL, so AC added a second entrance and separate lines for weekend and single-day passes. Really helped with crowding. Also, they tried to evacuate because of a storm on Saturday and it was a total mess. The next time, they just herded everyone under the freeway, which was crowded but much easier. Lessons learned!). From what my cousin (who works at the Radisson Blu on Grant Park) tells me, Lolly is a total fuckfest every year, logistically speaking.

I agree that AC has their shiz together better than most other festivals, but not Coachella. That fest is pretty much a logistical dream. Plus the layout lends itself to moving from one stage/tent to another very quickly (clear layout, no bottlenecks). Which is a minor gripe I have about Bonnaroo.
OP, it really depends what kind of experience you're looking for... I would just go with whatever has the lineup best suited for your tastes.

I've never been to Coachella, so I can't comment on it logistically. But of the many festivals I have attended, Bonnaroo and Forecastle have seemed the best organized. And yes, the bottlenecks between What and Which are annoying, but they have (slowly but surely) gotten better over the years. At some point, I believe AC will figure it out and pave over the ditch.

I vote Bonnaroo. To me Bonnaroo feels like a four day festival, and Coachella feels a little more like three one day festivals. Never been to Lolla, but i imagine it would feel even more like three separate festivals than Coachella.
Glad you're planning on giving a festival a try. Music buffets are beautiful!

Bonnaroo 2013 was my first music festival so I can't say much about the other two. The only thing I can tell you is that Bonnaroo changed my life in the best way possible!!!
I haven't been to Lollapalooza or Coachella, but I can say from my experience at Bonnaroo that it has the absolute best crowds of any festival I've been to (from what I've heard, this cannot be said about Lollapalooza and Coachella.)
That being said, I think any festival would be what you make of it. But I definitely think Bonnaroo has a very special, indescribable element to it.

Just gonna disagree with what you've heard. Coachella had a very good crowd. Different than Bonnaroo, but good.

Yeah, can't go on everything you hear. I'm actually trying to make it out in 2014 or 2015
