Mysteryland is coming to the States over Memorial Day Weekend in Bethel Woods (NY).
One of the world's oldest electronic-music festivals is launching in the U.S. next year in one of the most iconic music-festival settings: Woodstock.
Mysteryland, a 20-year-old festival held annually in the Netherlands by the Dutch event producer ID&T, will make its U.S. debut over Memorial Day weekend 2014 in Bethel Woods, N.Y., the site of the famed 1969 Woodstock festival.
Mysteryland isn't focused on what most Americans know as EDM, the energetic genre favored at Electric Daisy events that Mr. Stutterheim said amounts to "a modern version of pop music." Instead, Mysteryland showcases some 20 different styles of electronic music, like trance and house, many of which emerged as a backlash against pop music, he said. A good part of the budget for Mysteryland will also be spent on theater, movies, interactive installation art, street performers and "bizarre" stage decoration, he said, as opposed to celebrity-DJ salaries.
