If I'm not mistaken, the workshops had some cool intimate performances last year; the Avett Brothers and Lumineers are both acts that I'm pretty sure stopped in to play. I think itrainmonkeys and ilovethisgame both hit up the workshops, so they would know more. I'd expect more of the same, which is neat.

I was there for Avett Brothers after another set and then Ellen, Bonnie, and I hung around for the Jim James staring contest. The workshop was more of a Q&A/interview but it was still awesome. Fans could ask questions and see a closeup performance of a few songs.
The Jim James staring contest was weird. Didn't know what to expect but they told us ahead of time. Was hoping for a performance though.

I would have been thrown out of NFF for blurting out something like "You've got to be Fucckiing kidding me! A closed eye staring contest and you idiots are going to stand around and watch?' Apologies to those that stood around and watched but really WTF? sorry. JJ is a god but that was just dumb.

I read somewhere that the Seeger Family asked Newport not to do a "tribute" show but to honor Pete by continuing to support the quirky folk artists that usually don't get a spotlight anywhere else. I imagine this is what they are doing to pay respect to Pete and Toshi.

I still feel a let down about the staring contest, but the Avett set was beautiful.
I'm really glad that they are doing this again. Ellen said last year that she was planning to just camp out at the Museum stage for the entire Funk time (wish you could still come!!)... can't say that isn't tempting, but I don't think I can miss out on 4 hours/day of the regular lineup..
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

We are excited to announce our friends The Milk Carton Kids will be kicking off the return of our official after shows at the Pickens Theater. Tickets for this event go on sale Monday, May 19.

Just coming to post that.
I hope they have all the after shows announced when tickets go on sale. I think I'd like to see this after show. Milk Carton Kids were good in the Llewyn Davis doc. I love Deer Tick and usually the guests they get so hope those are all announced soon.

yeah, it would be nice if they didn't dribble the info out on these, given they will sell out quickly I imagine. It'd be nice to know what the options are.

For the second of our Pickens announcements, we have teamed up with our friends at Heartbreaker Banquet for what is sure to be a fun night of music. Tickets go on sale Monday May 19 at 10am est. This event is 21+.
Interesting....but I wish I knew who was playing it. Should be solid show though.
You beat me by seconds! I went back a few pages to find it... and when I clicked.. poof! You had just posted.
But yeah, I wish we knew more! If anyone is like me and had no idea what they are talking about:
Launching in 2012, New York’s legendary Electric Lady Studios partnered with innovative content production company Robot Fondue, to produce a truly unique, one-day music festival at Willie Nelson’s private “Luck, Texas” ranch. Now an annual event, Heartbreaker Banquet features a dynamic, day-long line up during SXSW that combines the best in americana rock and indie-folk music, and is attended by an elite, hand-selected group of tastemakers in film, fashion, music, and entertainment. 2012 and 2013 performances included: Shovels & Rope, Gary Clark Jr., Phosphorescent, Michael Kiwanuka, Jim James, Valerie June, Father John Misty, Blitzen Trapper, Billy Joe Shaver, Hurray For the Riff Raff, and many many more.

With these shows going on sale monday. I'm guessing they announce the Sunday one today as well?

I'm hoping they announce the Deer Tick ones too. I want all the after-shows to be announced ahead of time and released on the same day but not sure that's going to happen.
I may or may not be trying to buy a case of it for NFF weekend.
Thinking ahead to QC weekend, I seen a liquor store nearby which had a bunch of it. It's 8.75 for a six pack, 30 for a case. How much should I pick up?
