I really wanted to go this year but its just the same damn thing as every other year.
since 2008 (08-13) every one of the top 8 on this years lineup has played Waka except SCI.
Those 7 acts have played a total of 15 times at Waka since then.
I know its pretty much just a jam/electronic fest, but they should really try to be more creative with the lineup.
dude.... you're a fuck. you want the "new and exciting" line ups??? waka aint for you. waka knows what it does and it does it well. if you want the cream of the crop fresh out da kitchen in yo face undeniably innovative line up go to fest that has more than 20k people... this is a small fest that has found it's niche and doesn't care to book the shit that the other fests book. piss off dude. go to fuckin coachella or some shit.
i stand by what i said. there's so much pretentiousness in festival goers now it's ridiculous. if you don't like the style of a festival's line-up, don't go. lol.

Feel Good Foods is excited to be returning again this year as Wakarusa's artist and staff caterer. We are currently interviewing candidates for volunteering for this department. Our hours requirement is 18 hours (3) 6 hour shifts. We are aware that this is 3 hours more than you need to provide to WET. The reason for this is that while you are working for us you will be provided 3 meals per day for the 3 days you work. We feel these 9 catered meals are a small price to pay for an additional 3 hours of work. A $200 deposit will be required from all volunteers. This deposit will be returned to you after the completion of your hours. To apply please go to our website www.feelgoodfoodswnc.com and click on "Applications 2014". On that page you should see an icon that says volunteer application. If you are using a mobile device you may have to change to classic mode instead of mobile mode.
I had to make a choice this between Waka and Bonnaroo this year, and I'm going to Waka!!! Now that it's official, I can't believe it's only three weeks away!!! I'll go to both next year, but couldn't pass up Cheese on the mountain! I don't have an extra pass, but there's a whole facebook page dedicated to camping pass sales. I think it's Who's Going to Waka or something like that.

I will probably be arriving Tuesday since I'm working and was wondering when everyone else was planning on rolling in? Is anyone else working the festival?
That's awesome! It seems like every festival I go to, the folks at FGF are having a great time! Please give John Butler a huge sloppy kiss for me if you meet him <3
Talk about a Waka redemption!!! If you read about my experience last year, this year was the exact opposite! Good people, good sets, good vibes, and great weather! Can't wait until next year How was your Waka?
my 20-year old daughter just returned last night. She absolutely loved Waka and apparently kept remarking "I wish my mom was here!" (I feel like such a success as a parent - what 20 year old tells random people that they wish their mom was there?)
Anyway, she was so impressed with the venue, the sets, the people, the vibe....the only thing that was at all less than desirable was that she said the check in process was a little confusing with lack of clear signage. Maybe the signage was there and they just all missed it.
The signage was confusing, but we made it in! Last year it seemed like everyone got into the same line, so those with early arrival had to wait longer. I think that's why they changed the process this year. My son is going to Bonnaroo without me this year, and he was a little bummed that I wasn't going. I hope he has a great time! Zen, you should go with her next year! All of those things about the venue, vibe, and the Wakafarians are true Plus the lineup melt my heart every year!
Might as well get the review in for the record. Went up with 2 of my kids and one of their friends, and met up with Jabco and his wife and some friends of ours from Austin. We did VIP which was worth its weight in gold and probably the best value of a festival I've ever been to. It's like they paid me to go. We pulled in Wednesday by Riverside, and it was, as expected, a cluster****. There were several lines of cars waiting to get searched. The VIP line was pretty far back, so the guy at the gate just sent us to this short line which wasn't VIP. It took about 2.5 hours to get through that mess. The guy at the head of our line basically opened every nook and cranny in every bag, car compartment, etc. It was about 7-10 minutes per car, so it dragged on way too long. He was nice enough and told us they had found some machetes in other cars, so they were being meticulous. To me, that's not really a weapon and more of a camping tool especially if you are going backwoods or hiking. But I fully undestand the festival not wanting liability for drunken ninjas or whatever.
So we get through the car check fine and proceed to VIP Camping to set up. You pretty much post up whereever you want. There are three levels of roads, so we took the bottom one next to a mosquito pool so that we could have waterfront (racoons, bears, snakes, skunks, etc.). It was about 1.5 minutes walk to VIP bar and about an 1/8 mile to the VIP entrance for the main stage. There was a special concert set up for VIP at the Backwoods Stage which was also right next to VIP Camping with a special entrance. We got there for the end of Mouth and saw Twiddle and Manic Focus (DJ). That was my first time seeing Twiddle (ended up catching all 3 sets), and I thought they were great.
Thursday: (missed Funk You unfortunately) Dopapod (loved the little I caught of them), Twiddle, Moon Hooch, Nahko and Medicine for the People, random stage crawling, Moon Taxi, STS9, Break Science, Adventure Club, Keys N Krates, Wick-It the Instigator
Friday: Stage crawling, Lettuce, Break Science, Dr. Dog, STS9, Flaming Lips, String Cheese Incident, Infected Mushroom, Ott/Rusko/Floozies, heRobust, Jay Fay
Saturday: The Magic Beans, Mike Dillon Band, Orgone, Funk Hunters, Reignwolf, Phutureprimative, String Cheese 3.5 hour set, Umphrey's, Papadosio
Sunday: The Magic Beans, Twiddle, BoomBox, The Green/Poolside Full Band Set, EOTO, Iration, Umphrey's, Claude Von Stroke (wanted to see more of the Floozies, but we were blowing out and Claude was at main stage)
Random Notes: It rained every day (sometimes pretty hard), but other than Sunday, it was just an hour or so here or there. That wasn't really much of a problem, as the VIP viewing area for main stage had a covered bar, and the two tent buildings were easy enough to duck into (VIP also had a bar in the Revival Tent). The best food I had was this local bbq truck (from Springdale I think the guy said) which did pulled pork on Texas toast with fresh cilantro. I must have had one of those every afternoon. I never thought bbq+cilantro, but it was a perfect combo. I thought the Satellite Stage was an awesome viewing spot, basically on a down-hill side of the mountain. It would have been nice to see more bands in there (did get the Poolside band set there) instead of just DJ's, but I guess most festivals are kind of honing in on stages that cater to certain genres. The festival organizers were all nice as could be, and the vibe of the crowd was pretty unparalleled. It was 95+% hippy. Due to SCI, Magic Beans, etc., Colorado was being repped everywhere. We also met concentrations of a lot of cool people from KC, NW Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas (as well as CA and LA).
VIP Notes: Lunch and Dinner meals were included each day from Thurs-Sunday. The caterers were from Pineville, LA, and while not great, most of the meals were decent or at least edible. They had stuff like meatball subs, chicken fajitas, pork shiskabobs, tacos and whatever. They also had a vegetarian option for each meal. And they made it clear that if you had any food allergies or required gluten free, that they would make you something special. All you had to do was go to the kitchen and tell the main lady, and you were covered. The VIP kitchen also had coffee in the morning. The VIP bar in the campground was open every day from like 11am-1am. They had 16 oz cans of Landshark, standard US swill (Bud, Bud Light, etc.), Woodchuck, etc. as well as some local stuff on tap (Mother's Brewery) which included an IPA and a blonde ale. Both were easily drinkable. They also had all you can drink red bulls, bottled waters, and canned soft drinks. This was repeated in the free VIP bars at Main Stage and Revival tent. And while you couldn't bring booze out of or into the VIP viewing sections (they said it had something to do with a vendor contract), that wasn't really a big deal. The stage bars were open until at least midnight, so at worst, you might only have had to hit a bar during the wee hours. For our gift, we got a nice screend poster on the last day (was for sale for $40 at the merch booth in GA). The bathrooms and showers were reasonable. They had A/C bathrooms in a trailer or some side port-o-johns that never really had any wait time and were clean enough. Total cost per person was about $740 which was 4.5 days of all you could drink in 3 VIP bars, prime spot camping in a protected/fenced off area, fantastic front row viewing, A/C showers and bathrooms, a campfire at night, the poster and 2 meals a day plus coffee. Also the VIP Camping Bar had salted in the shell peanuts and apples all the time if you wanted a snack. Essentially you paid about $164/day (+/- $7/hour). 15 beers plus tips for an all day fest would run you about $135 alone at normal fest prices of $8.00/16 oz beer + $1.00 tip. On the last day when picking up our posters, one of the main guys asked if we would spread the word throughout forums. I told him no dice, because while I understand them wanting to get the word out on what a great festival deal it actually is, I preferred to keep it a secret so it doesn't get too crowded. Of course I didn't have any message board accounts at the time, since I don't really do them anymore (outside of here). If they ever read this, they can consider the favor done.
The only negatives I can think of were there was poison ivy here and there (easy enough to avoid) and some giant ants that would come in your tent and eat crumbs if you left them lying around or your tent open (didn't get bit so I'm not sure if they bite or not). There was a bear trap across the pond from where we were camping as allegedly there were some minor issues with bear looting. For those issues, you're in the woods in the mountains, so all that comes with the territory. The rain sucked on Sunday, but it cleared up by the evening shows. And while it did rain at least a little most of the other days, the rain cooled air was kind of nice afterwards. Unfortunately it rained hard enough Saturday AM that we were unable to go whitewater rafting which was one of the plans. And my ankles got messed up from walking in rocks and around the fest to the tune of at least 10-15 miles per day. So I didn't get a chance to hike to the waterfall either. The wait to get in of course sucked. But those are really the only issues I can even complain about. The good seriously outweighed the minor negatives, and we have decided to put VIP in annual rotation (joining Buku, Jazzfest, Hangout, Voodoo). The setting in the Ozarks is as good as it gets, and I actually found I liked Wakarusa much more than I liked Bonnaroo (although we're going to do VIP at both next year just to compare once and for all). As I noted in another thread, Waka 2014 experience is my top 1 festival to date (having surpassed Deluna 2012 and Lollapolooza 1992). The party was on, and I can't wait to get back up there again next year. Word.
LMFAO d*ckhead. No. No. And No. Not Carl. Not skeezing. None of that, but comedy attempt noted and laughed at.
PS. You should tell your boy to google k9 dogs at hangout fest. First return is a YouTube video. I know he hasn't been around much, but it's from June 2013. I didn't see them that year, but apparently that made it 3 years in a row. Thanks!
